Any Photoshop Users? I offer help

Does anyone have photoshop?
Wondering if any fellow sack people here know photoshop and the word "templates" , because I made an template that is a new document ready for designing my new levels. I mainly use it as a guide when i have "Grids" on in little big planet just to keep things in proportion and I have draft to work from.

The dimensions are separated by "Layers" and color coordinated and stuff...helps me out lol probably confusing to others unless you have gotten your hands dirty and made levels already.

I also sketch layouts, scan it into photoshop, then grid things out so I have some kind of order before touching the PS3, I sometimes get overwhelmned by different things i can do and end up not finishing or creating what i originally wanted to do.

Let me know if anyone is interested so I can post it.

I was hoping to scroll down to see the post, but there's nothing yet. I've been working with Photoshop for years, and I'm just about to start a concept using it. I understand what you're saying entirely.2011-01-28 03:42:00

Okay here it is. I thought some people here may put it to some use, Since it is so customized to how I work it may be confusing until you have played LBP and STARTED CREATING already to understand how to use it.

Photoshop Level .PSD Design File Download (http://www.redsez.com/lbp/lbpleveldesign.zip)

*WARNING* This is for the Intermediate Photoshop user with understanding to your Tools, Layers, Zoom and Menus.

INSTRUCTIONS:
Upon opening do the following.
Use correct sized gridlines

Ctrl + K
Goto "Guides, Grid, Slices & Count"
Goto "Grid" section and use color "Red", "Gridline every : 3", "Style: Dashed Lines", "Subdivision: 1"
Press OK

Zoom into 1600%
Please see the following pictures for some additional visual understanding.
Use pencil sizes 1, 2, and 3.

1 = Small sized brick
2 = Medium sized brick.
3 = Large sized brick.

I like to visualize the grid size i have now as using the "Small Grid" in the game. All the edges are sharp but i leave the smoothing out part for when im actually on the PS3. I use this for the bare bones part of designing. I like to do alot of planning before hand so this is why this method suits me.

I have all the dimensions separated into layers (ex. .5 dimension {front}, 1st dimension,1.5dimension,2nd dimension,2.5 dimension, 3rd dimension, 3.5 {far back}) You do not have to pick colors for each dimension because i have it automated to differentiate whats what.

Dimensions 1 ,2 & 3 are solid colors and Dimensions .5, 1.5, 2.5 & 3.5 are colors with a opacity of 80% so you can see whats behind or what it will stick to behind.

Feel free to customize what ive created to how you work, i dont care just make it work for "you" if you have to! lol.

I lower the "opacity" just to see how I can layout the level maximizing the use of the thermometer, i guess this is comparable to making a part invisible in creation mode.

....crazy huh, but it works for me.

Hey check out my levels when you get a chance:

I made alot more practice levels but never published them. Now with refined controls in LBP2 I will finish my ideas.

Nice idea, wish i had thought of it.

I used Maya to create a 3D template of the create world, lets me work on levels while at work before getting home to implement, also lets me view the whole level from all angles, not just the ones restricted by create mode.

But still, nice idea xD

If I knew how to use maya id probably be using that too, but adobe's suite is as far as ill go..too much for me lol.

At work I doodle on paper contraptions and such, then I scan it in for a 1:1 of how to make it work. I use this template at work then print it to recreate at home on the game.

Great! Glad it helped someone other than me. It's definitely helped create my newest level, layout only for now. I'm working on how to make draft the mechanics before getting the on the game. Basically so when I'm at work I can draft monsters then try them out.2011-05-15 06:58:00

Really good idea. It is always good practise to prepare your work by hand before creating the final outcome so that you know clearerly that what you want to make.

Also making mind maps/spider diagrams can help you come up with initial ideas for levels and themes that you might not of thought of otherwise.
