Portal Concept/Tech Demo

This is a level that I made to showcase the possibility of creating Portal in LBP2. It has fully-functional two-way Portals that Sackfolk can use to instantly travel from one to another, just like in the game, "Portal" by Valve. You can shoot the Portals.

Hey, someone finnaly made it in full, game, nice.
Someone made one too in BETA, so I was wondering if/ when someone would make it in the full game, I may check it out later.

It's actually not too horribly complex.
The way it goes is:
There's an invisible square of holographic material that has an invisible controlinator on it that is set to automatically enter, for both portals. The invisible hologram is set to follow a tag on the portal itself, so it is exactly where the portals are. When you enter the controlinator, it instead goes to the tag that is on the other portal, ejects the player, and disables both portal's controlinators until the player leaves the radius of the portal (to stop infinite loops from happening).

Not complex?..... Lol. Great idea though! I cant wait to see a full game based on portal. I litterally reference portal on a daily basis at school, mainly about black forest cake.2011-01-25 03:45:00

I plan on updating the level as soon as I feel better to make a couple of changes:

Get rid of the behaviour of both the old and newly emitted portals disappearing after swapping portal guns twice... I don't know why I thought this was a good idea
Making the creatinator swapping less obvious (the creatinator that is emitted will not be visible for nearly as long)
MAYBE map the orange portal to L1 and the blue portal to R1, and ditch the whole "swapping" scheme of things... this probably won't be in this update, but it might come in a future one.

Alright, I have churned out the update. I did the following:

Glued the button to the floor (dumb mistake -- my thanks goes to the person who took a picture of himself standing on the door with the button upside down and uploaded it)
Improved the colour swapping -- it's less obvious, and it works when you're moving much better.
Placing a portal of the same colour as one already placed after swapping colours no longer destroys the newly-emitted one.


Coming in future updates (possibilities, not sure):

Abandon the swapping scheme of things, and instead use L1 and R1 to emit each respective colour.
Object transportation -- objects going through portals!

Very fun but I found a glitch, If you have a portal under a spawn and a portal over electricity it continuously kills, spawns, and teleports you. Maybe you could make portals disapear after death or after a certain period of time?2011-01-26 00:17:00

If you place a portal under a checkpoint and one on the electricity, wouldn't that be your fault? I don't think it could be done accidentally.

Any chance you could elaborate on how you're disabling the controlinators to avoid the infinite loop thing? I've got a similar situation going on.2011-01-29 20:12:00
