Off screen destruction?
Archive: 8 posts
Hi everybody! Today, I was thinking about recreating the hugely popular iPhone, Android and Nokia (the one I have) game, Doodle Jump (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doodle_Jump). I think I've pretty much got everything sorted, except for one thing, the ending. In the mobile versions, if you fall off the screen, there are no platforms and you fall to your doom. Considering you ascent up the level, how would you be able to destroy a block once it leaves the screen? I was thinking of having an invisible block of hologram follow you up, and if you fall past, it destroys everything and ends the game, but how would I make it not follow me down, meaning if I go up, it follows, if I fall, it stays? Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance guys | 2011-01-24 16:52:00 Author: kirbyman62 Posts: 1893 |

I would set an inverted tag sensor set to 180? and range of 5000, and add a tag label of "bottom" to it. Place this tag sensor at the level where you want the camera to "stop following". Attach the output of this sensor to your "follower" on your camera hologram. Place a tag on your camera hologram and label it "bottom". When your camera hologram falls enough to activate the tag sensor, your "follow" motion will be turned off. Your camera will stay in place while you sackboy continues to fall. | 2011-01-24 17:01:00 Author: RoharDragontamer Posts: 397 |
Use a mover going upwards, and a player sensor switch at 180? in the centre of the holo connected to it, facing upwards. If you go above the halfway point, the holo moves up, but if you go below the holo doesn't move at all. For extra accuracy connect the sensor switch to a NOT gate, and the not gate to a 100% dampening grav tweaker. # = player sensor radius O = player sensor ^ = mover box = holographic material __________ |########| |########| |########| |###O####| |.....^......| |............| |________| If you use a follower then the block will also move sideways with your character. Hope that helps | 2011-01-24 17:02:00 Author: Weretigr Posts: 2105 |

It's not actually a player, but that could be replaced by a tag sensor, right? | 2011-01-24 17:14:00 Author: kirbyman62 Posts: 1893 |
Yes, of course | 2011-01-24 20:58:00 Author: Weretigr Posts: 2105 |
Yes, of course Thanks for that, worked like a charm. I have a new issue concerning the controlinator, should I ask here or make a new thread? EDIT: Actually, I think I might have it. To get the camera to follow, would it be exactly the same as a Sackbot? If so, then I'm good. | 2011-01-24 21:19:00 Author: kirbyman62 Posts: 1893 |
