Let Me Get Rid of Emitter Sounds

Archive: 18 posts

Just a very minor complaint/suggestion. I really wish I could turn emitter sounds off. Whenever I have a drop of water spawn, it makes a tiny sprinkler sound, which gets really annoying if you emit in intervals quicker than, say, one second. I have this wicked waterfall made from emitted water, but the effect is dampened somewhat by this stupid tish tish tish tish. It totally drowns out any water sound objects I can place on the level, like it needs to be the loudest thing in the whole game! Grrr.2011-01-24 16:15:00

Correct me if I'm wrong but can't you place an emmiter on a microchip, if so I believe that will remove the sounds.2011-01-24 16:27:00

@RAWTalent: I don't know if you can put an emitter on a microchip. I'll try this out next time I boot up.

@Luos_83: I'm pretty sure making the emitter invisible doesn't do the trick. I'll get back to you if I'm wrong.

You can put almost all of the components in a microchip, including emmiters and cameras and sequencers.2011-01-24 19:15:00

Okay, I tried putting all the emitters on a microchip and it didn't get rid of the "thwip thwip thwip" sound. Turning the emitter invisible doesn't work either, as I suspected. I think it's just a part of the deal, like the "pew" from a plasma ball or the "fok" of a fireball. Considering all the other things you can tweak, including sounds on materials and stuff, it kinda sucks. If I recall, you can even have the emitter sound turned off on the Creatinator. Hmmm. Maybe I can use a bunch of sackbots . . . Seems a waste of thermo just to make a waterfall that doesn't sound like a lawn sprinkler, though.2011-01-25 13:42:00

Create a water drop or fireball or whatever problem particle you want to disable sounds for.
Stick a Material Tweaker on it and disable physics sounds.
Spawn this tweaked particle, and hey presto!

Putting it on invisible you won't hear the sound in play mode.2011-01-25 15:20:00

Thanks, Shifty and Kirpy. I'll try these ideas next.2011-01-25 17:40:00

I'm not sure if it works with emitters, but with something else it was like that.2011-01-25 20:04:00

yes it works,
period.

This doesn't work on my system either; I tried it with the fire hazard and an emitter and still get the sounds. I was making a wall of fire with the emission rate at 0.0 and the emitter sounds are overbearingly loud. Even with a material tweaker on the particle with physics sounds off, it's still very loud. Is there anyone who's gotten it to work correctly?2011-01-26 07:44:00

Okay, I finally got it to work using Shifty Geezer's recommendation; i.e., I used a material tweaker on a water drop and turned off the physics sounds. No more sprinkler. It doesn't get rid of the little splash when the drop is destroyed, but that sound isn't as annoying.

Note that setting an emitter to invisible does not disable sounds for a water droplet that is emitted, in Play Mode or otherwise.

yes please i need this option i also had to use water in a emitter and it drove me inane so i put it at the top of the map and i could still here it! even with the music playing.2011-01-27 00:41:00

An interesting discovery last night, emmitting flaming, invisible holo from an invisible holo emmitter produces no sounds. So what the others were suggesting does work somehow, in some cases. I expect that it's the material, if flaming holo, that doesn't make sounds, whereas standard fireball or flaming, solid objects do.

Still, glad I could find a fix for ya!

Darn. I wanted to create water drops for propulsion, but that splashing sound on destroy doesn't sound too good.
Do you think MM will ever add this option?

I've not been able to find a solution for the destroy. I was making a waterfall, so for me it was just a matter of having the water drop off the screen far enough that the splat couldn't be heard.2011-02-15 13:46:00

Doesn't setting a sound object to "on creation" cause it to completely replace the default creation sound? I know it worked that way for "on destruction" sounds back in LBP1. I also remember that in LBP1, the "e-drum hi-hat" sound became completely silent if its sound modifier was shifted 4 notches to the right. So would it work to attach an "on creation" silent sound object to the thing you want to emit?2011-02-15 20:45:00
