How do I make a decent window?
Archive: 7 posts
I am trying to make a window you can see thru on a thin layer but the glass is frikkin terrible and you can barely see thru it. I thought I've seen windows, but maybe I'm crazy. Is it possible to make something you can see thru but not use to hop layers? I tried placing a hologram but you can go right thru it and material changer doesn't make it so you can't. | 2011-01-24 13:16:00 Author: RSQViper Posts: 302 |
Do you have The POTC pack? becuase that pack has "old glass" and that imo more 'see trough' | 2011-01-24 13:20:00 Author: Dexist Posts: 570 |
The smooth glass becomes more see through if you sticker it black. Also, if you want to use hologram, place an additional piece of invisible hologram, tweak it to be plasma and then turn off the sound. This should give you an invisible, impassable barrier to complement the visible window that can be traversed. | 2011-01-24 13:20:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
There is also a new glass material called Smooth Glass, available in various colours. I don't know where you get it, though. | 2011-01-24 13:27:00 Author: Rogar Posts: 2284 |
That's the one I was talking about rogar - it's still pretty opaque, but stickering black seems to make it clearer... IDK why. It comes in several colours too | 2011-01-24 13:30:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
Alternative: Try using resized point bubbles or milk bottles; might not be the best option for you, but you get a nice clear see through effect, and it also magnifies/demagnifies what's behind it, also adding to that "glass" effect. Note: If using points bubbles as windows, make sure to place a sheet of glass behind the points bubble - the glass behind the points bubble becomes invisible and prevents you from accidentally collecting the points bubble. Cons: There is a residual glow of the closest Sackboys menu colour in the centre of the bubble, and it takes up a whole layer. See my "Judge Dredd 2000AD: Mega City Decaffination" for aesthetics on how the window looks. Edit: In fact, here's an example of a points bubble window (You could easily just make a square frame for it http://i5.lbp.me/img/fl/d8501b33bb7460b410bc99e69ffb6ed8fb92f3b0.jpg | 2011-01-24 13:42:00 Author: Macnme Posts: 1970 |
hmmm... the silent plasma on the hologram seems like a good idea. I don't have the smooth glass pickup yet. Once I find it I'll try that out, too. Thanks! I'll let you know how it goes. | 2011-01-24 14:27:00 Author: RSQViper Posts: 302 |
