Ball

Archive: 9 posts

Ball is my first LBP2 level, and is mostly my way of testing out exactly what it is I can do with the new tools out there.
You play as Ball, the latest in... well... some kind of technology. You have been designed to do... something, but before you can be put on the market you must be put through a series of obstacles to test whether you are fit for the real world. Prove your worth as you Jump and Roll through the level without touching any water.

The level took about 4 days of near constant work to complete. I hope you enjoy it. I've play tested it a good 40 or 50 times, but if you encounter any problems feel free to report them so that I can get to work fixing any and all problems that may remain in the level.

One last thing, I hid a secrete mode into the level, and I have yet to release exactly how one activates it. Send a message my way if you want to know how to unlock :star:"Super Happy Stress Relief Mode":star:

interesting ididn't make it past the spring launcher yet. it reminds me of an old toy i use to play with years ago. that one with the magnetic wheel that loops around a handle with 2 wires . Curious whats withe the glowing skeletion with the bag over its head at scoreboard? Im going to play through it some more. the graphis with the black white sci-fi look is great touch try my crane level and tell me what you think of it when you get a chance. https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=44893-LBW-VP-LBP2-crane-test-demo-(BUILD-A-BRIDGE)2011-01-24 04:06:00

hahaha, that guy at the end is just a robot version of my character there to tell you that I'll probably be putting more work into the level soon.
Although I might just end up doing a sequel instead... or a prequel where they first make ball... or something...

Anyway, thanks for the feedback, and I added your level to my Q

Yo okay I didn't get through it all but I think I got decently along in it. and let me say I was not expecting this.

From the name and description of the level, I was expecting something whimsical and bright and amusing, instead what I got was a level put through a noir filter with a moody back beat, not to say that's always a bad thing I just was not expecting it, You might want to rethink your title and description.

Anyways, I'm not sure if I liked the level, it was kind of confusing I thought what all I could rest on and what all I would fly right past, I was always hestitant to try to jump somewhere ebcause I wasn't sure if I'd actually land on it or not, and I don't like how when you die it ends the level for you. Could you not think of a way to respawn? Or did you WANT it to be a kind of one shot type of thing?

To be honest I am still working out the kinks in an efficient respond point that doesn't kill the mood of the level.
I currently thinking about simply moving onto a sequel and using all my current plans on that instead of revamping the first one. Future plans for Ball 2.0 include

The Ball Dispenser-o-matic 1800 (AKA a respond point)
Opening Cutscene Introducing the Inventor of Ball, the charmingly Victorian era Dr. Smartworths The Third
New Obstacles, As Well as Updated and less confusing variations of current ones
A More Humorous World, filled with the occasional visual joke and a hint of dry humor here and there
Possibly Powerups for Ball, like a Plasma Mode, Infinite Jumping, and Sticky Mode

Ball was supposed to feel a bit like a Sci Fi Noir World. I hope Ball 2.0 will feel a bit more lighthearted, and had a sort of Cyberpunk meets Steampunk Feel to it.

I'm also currently attempting to work out a system where there will be a button that can extend and retract the center portion of Ball, allowing you to jump onto pipelines from below, or drop off of them at any time, but this is proving to be a difficult task to program onto the chip and get working.

On a last note, I am looking for somebody skilled to create an original song via the LBP music sequencer for Ball 2.0. Send a message my way if you are interested.

Alright well let me know when you get ball 2.0 out. And keep in mind that I'm constantly updating my level *wink wink* hah, and sadly I don't know anyone skilled with the music creation tools... Though I do know musicians... Hmmm... XD2011-01-24 21:19:00

Ball 2.0 is already in the works, and it is safe to say that I looked over what was enjoyable, and what was just frustrating in the first Ball and did my best to fix gameplay to be far more fun. Things that are already 100% going to be in the level include

Respond Points (Just got done today working out the mechanics of how it works, and I am proud to say I have it working)
Areas where Ball will be moved forward or back a layer to allow for more obstacles in less space.

I'm currently playing the unpublished Alpha level with the song Whoever Brings The Night (instrumental) by Nightwish, but as I stated above I am still keeping an eye out for any original LBP2 music creations to use instead.
