Everyone is saying using a counter set to 1 is a great way to make a one-shot switch. Only problem: I can't set the counter to one! It's only 0-10-20-30 etc. Do you know where I can change that?

Ok you are using the controllers small left, right, up, down pad right thous only move the counter by 10 the right analog stick makes it only up or down by 1. Use the right analog stick ok
