Little Big Wooden Labyrinth

Archive: 49 posts

Hi!

This is my first real level, created some in the first game but nothing this polished.

The level is inspired by the old wooden labyrinth games you used to play with as a kid http://www.otherlandtoys.co.uk/images/labyrinth500.jpg. You tilt the controller and controll a ball while you are racing through a maze with holes in it. Must add, it's hard!

Please leave feedback!

Easymode.

Very well made and the tilt controls are almost life like in comparison to real game. There are to many holes and a few of them are not placed to well. near the end of the maze some of those whol are way to close to the walls and hardly any wood to roll on. Also if you can https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=44893-LBW-VP-LBP2-crane-test-demo-(BUILD-A-BRIDGE)2011-01-24 03:58:00

I will make two stages, one easy and one hard. This one will be the hard one of course. A menu in the start so you can decide from which one you wanna play.

Also I will make some bigger room for the ball to roll on in the ending on the hard one. BTW should i change controls for easy or remove holes? With changing controls I'm thinking making it less floaty making it stop easier and going slower.

Thanks for feedback! Your level is added to queue.

i like the controls as is mainly for the easier level just need to remove some of the holes. took me 7 tries to get past the 1st 2 holes. in the easy one not both but at least remove one of thos 1st two holes that are side by side2011-01-24 04:36:00

Added easymode now and removed that hard spot towards the ending you told me about. You get 5000 bonus score for finishing hard and 500 for finishing easy.

EDIT: Please tell me what you think of the changes, tell me if it's to easy or too hard both of the levels.

Hey, I know that one guy said he liked controls but let me complain about them a little bit. I assume you're using an advanced mover connected to the tilt functions no? Well It feels as if there isn't any acceleration or deceleration time at all, do you have it set to 100%? If so I personally think you should possibly scale it down some. But other than that I have no issues with the level.2011-01-24 15:41:00

Changed the controls now changed acceleration from 50 to 75 made a lot of difference, and added a tilt camera as an experiment hope you like it!

easy mode was good i made it Thanks i'll keep practiceing hard. Also on my crane i made the gap 1 plank for you. Controls on the easy seem okay and the holes are well placed. i only fell in to a hole once out of dumb luck. You plan on making anymore old classic wooden games like this?2011-01-24 19:17:00

Now that i got the basic stuff down it wouldn't be much work to go more extreme, thinking a lava level with fireballs shooting at you and spinning fire sticks from marios castle that you should avoid. But still have the maze and holes left.

on the european Playstation HOME servers have a future themed version of labyrinth. I noticed they had conveyers along some wall edges and gates that opened after triggering a switch . be advise though some obstacles it would be best not to have holes near them. fireballs conveyorbelts and stuff should block or make progress challengeing but not impossible. ooh if possbile try to make conveyorbelts that must be reversed to progress2011-01-24 19:42:00

Maybe i'll continue on this theme, just change the leveldesign and create some fun and unique puzzles. Maybe I shoud avoid projectiles and stuff, things can get messy. Got some ideas except that home one?

I need some feedback on the new camera, I like the effect but it's so **** hard to get all the cameras to look the same from every angle.

Well guess what you're getting feed back on! hah!

The controls! bahahaha then the camera's don't worry.

I like what you did with the controls, It doesn't feel quite as stiff anymore and I was actually able to finish without getting frustrated this time around.

I also like the concept of the camera, though they seem kinda stiff right now, like you tilt the controller and BAM the angle is changed instead of gradual shift over. (But I like the shift anyways even if it's not perfect yet)

Hope this helps

If you would like to try to tweak the controls i could invite you, i'm not saying no to perfect controls.

I'll make the camera changes much smaller and see if that makes it better. Hard to make it non-stiffy.

EDIT: Camera much better, new version with smooth camera will be up in 10 minutes i think.

EDIT 2: Up and running, feels really cool now with a working tilting camera.

I just played this level and It was really cool, the tilting works great, and the camera looks nice. The only problem I had was it seemed too easy to me, but perhaps that was just luck, because I did get the highest score on my first try.

Perhaps add some sort of pull if you get near the edge of the holes, other than that, it's awesome, and I defiantly hearted it.

I've yet to play it 'again' to see the new camera angles. But if it feels done, then I'd suggest start working on a new 'map' to play on, so there's more than just easy and hard, there's actually a few different maps, you know?

Or you could start work on another project?

Must have been luck since you scored so high, look at all the other mortals on the high-score list below you. The holes suck you down, but the sensors i doesn't have the largest detection range, I have tweaked that carefully so it's OK, not too hard and not too easy.

When I have worked hard for this level it's stupid to not make a sequel since the basics is done now and all i do is to do some clever level designs.

I don't know if you need another whole level, you probably still have room on your thermo to just add in another selectable map, right? I dunno maybe not. What ever you feel like doing though

The thing is that I want to make rather short levels that people play over and over again to beat the record on, so a new level it is.

Ah, thanks for making this, now I don't have to.

I made a prototype in the beta with pretty good camera control (they take analog values, you know), I'll have a look at this and get back to you if I have any suggestions for improvement.

Updated with some fixes now, teleport instead of death, camera will not go away, walls changed to wood now as it should be (had to be glass before because of some friction problems I had).2011-01-26 14:07:00

Very cool idea. I was kind of disappointed by how jerky the ball moved around but since I really have no idea how the level works on the create side, don't know how to help you there. Overall, a good mix of frustration and challenge and a worthwhile level. 11th place on easy! haha2011-01-28 04:14:00

Updated it now, improved camera thanks to Rogar here in the forum, new controls and som minor bugfixing. Try it out!

EDIT: Also a complete visual overhaul. New pictures added in first post.

Coolio, I'll try it out!

Will you retry my level out? I've been updating consistently...

My birds move all about now, as in not only to the left, but also up and down movement. I have a boomerang in , but it is EXTREMELY buggy. And I have an alternate control scheme, though that's a different level published right next to my original, if you wanna try that out, they're the same content just different control schemes, I wanted to see which one people like better... Anyways I'd like if you could try one of them out. (not the timed edition)

I'll try to play your level as soon I get time to play LBP 2.

Somethings I really need feedback on is the visuals and the controls, would like to see those who complained about the controls before try them out.

The controls feel much muhc better than I remember, they seem smooth and fluid now, where as before they seemed kinda jerky. Great job with those.
The new visuals are wonderful, your level really looked nice, the only complaint i had were the camera angles seem a little too steep, but that might just be my opinion.

I love this level for two reasons, because its a really delightful puzzle that brings back memories of my old version of this as a child, and because it provides a nice challenge.

I have to commend you on the presentation, i could almost imagine my old wooden labyrinth coming out of the screen.

I also appreciate the fact that you put in an easy level as it provides a nice practice for the real challenge.

Great job, i look forward to seeing more of your levels!

If you have the time, I'd appreciate it if you could check out my level, link in my sig, thanks!

It was pretty good! Firstly, change the friction of the ball to 0. The ball being unable to effectively slide against walls made it unnecessarily harder. Also.... that's pretty much it, though I'd decorate the background a bit. Great job!2011-02-03 04:01:00

I played this level, and it's pretty good. I encountered a flaw though.

VISUALS:
The wooden visuals looked neatly polished, and the camera angles worked well.

SOUND:
Good use of sound and "Eve's Asylum" interactive music.

GAMEPLAY:
The use of the sixaxis controller fitted well. However, a flaw I encountered is that when you move up, the ball doesn't seem to respond. It sometimes didn't respond the movements, but this level has an interesting use of the controlinator.

OVERALL:
An interesting remake of the wooden labyrinth. A yeah vote.

When did the ball stop respond to movements? Was it close to the holes?
