An Average Adventure: 1st discovery

Well, I worked hard on this one and it took me a long time too. I think i am starting to develop myself. I noticed some more mistakes; I try to include too much in a level. As a result it is either too long or too complex for the thermometer.
I couldn't avoid having bugs in my level this time either. I will really try to keep my levels simple and focus on the art (design) instead next time.

I hope not every one is busy playing LBP2 (i still don't have it ) , i need feedback since although i am aware that my level has flaws, it is hard to see them sometimes as the creator.

First off, I just want to say that the 14-or-so plays this level has doesn't do it justice.

Just finished playing this and wow, great stuff. Althought this level has average in its name, this level is anything but. I really liked the look of the level, especially the detail you put on the walls/doors. Running into those packs of bubbles in big rooms was a nice and subtle way to keep the flow going, even in empty rooms. In fact, I can't really think of any boring parts, everything was interesting and fun to climb on to. The only real problem I have with it is that there's a fair amount of switchhes that are visible. I think at the minimum there's 8.

@Jaboyle: Thanks I did worked on the decorations a lot. I will check your level right away!

@RickTheRipper: Thanks! Yeah, i've noticed those switches, I will fix them as soon as i can. Can't believe i left them out. Im glad to hear that the point bubbles worked well, some of the rooms were really empty. I tried to include as much as "puzzles" and similar interesting things but i feared it could have been too complex. Thanks again, i will play your level right away!

Beautiful combined with brilliant gameplay makes it a great level! Th puzzles are so good I have never seen any that are as good even on LBP 2 with all the extra logic! I just cant think of any improvements! : ) and a heart!

Hey dude, played your level yesterday.

The good: The overall art design is excellent, the level is long and involved (which I see as a bonus), and the gameplay/logic is complex and entertaining. The story is cool as well, a nice Indiana Jones homage.

The bad: Camera angles - I can't emphasise enough how much these annoyed me at times. See if you can get a friend round and watch them play it for the first time and take a note of everytime they fall off something or don't know where to go next because they couldn't see what was happening. Also, there is one jump near the end which is tremendously difficult (it's before that big clockwork section) - it must have taken me about 30 attempts to do it, and then I got crushed in the clockwork and went back to a checkpoint before it, and unfortunately I just couldn't finish the level because of it. Maybe others have less trouble but it did my head in. There are other frustrating bits throughout the level as well that just need tweaking, and again I'd recommend watching a friend play through it and taking note of where they have trouble.

Overall I still gave this a 'Yay' because artistically and technically it's up there with some of the top levels IMO, especially because you made it in LBP1, but there are portions of it that need further tweaking, explanation and elaboration to make it less frustrating.

edit: Oh, you must be talking about the race part. The checkpoint didn't work? I placed a sensor there to make sure the checkpoint at the very end is activated once the race starts. I had a similar problem before but it only happened once, the next time i played it there was no problem, so i thought that it was fixed. That race section has started to annoy me.

I will try to make a small pause between the "explosion" and the race, so that you won't have to skip the speech bubbles before the race.
Oh, that jump. Well, i kinda forgot that part while building the level (it used o be a basic slope) then decided to decorate it and change it a bit. Actually i noticed that it is a little hard, but if it is annoyingly hard, than i should fix it.

I actually did watch a friend of mine play it, but i think i gave him too many hints...

Thank you very much for the feedback! I'd love to take a look at your level but i don't have LBP2 yet. I've queued it though, i will play it once have lbp2... Hopefully very soon... İ hope...

Hey Mick...couple things I noted.

it's a great level stylistically. I loved it. I could not finish it though. right after you shoot that ball with the paintinator there is a sloped jump that is annoyingly impossible. also, right after you push I believe it is the second golf ball I had the ****edest time trying to figure out what I needed to do and in doing so I randomly jumped behind some walls of the previous room. I don't think I was a glitch cuz i made it back out, check it out. oh and when your friends play through it you have to keep your lips zipped while they play....leave the room or, take note at every hint you have to drop.

Fantastic level you did there xD
I really enjoyed it and a little frustating too =P, i got stuck and don't know what to do in the "grab the paintgun" i grabed it and disapper, nothing happen after it... i tried 3 times in the beggining = ( played in lbp1 )
Anyway i think the level it was aweasome and others levels too!

i really enjoyed the idea for ship puzzle =)

Oh and a little fanart about this posted level. ( the raccoon girl in the level was little creepy... maybe the blue eyes xP , but drew her xD )

Hey! I haven't been checking here for like a week and there are already many messages to read... GREAT!

@BabyFace: Yeah... That slope has been more problem to me than i ever expected. Many people found it too difficult to jump. I have to fix that even though i wasn't planning to go back and fix this level (now that i have LBP2, i'd rather be working on the sequel).
Oh no! A problem with the golf balls!? I was surprised to hear no one spotting any mistake about them. Do you mean you couldn't find where to push it or didn't know what to do after pushing it. In that i case, i might need to add some more arrows or point bubbles. Thank you very much.

@Shouk: Wow! Thank you! Looks awesome! I think i got lazy with the blue roo and decided to use a simple monster pack sticker as an eye.
-Im glad you liked the puzzle. It could have been much better; i forgot to hide some switches there and i am not really pleased with end when the ship falls apart. Could have looked better, but i rushed the level .
Raccoon girl looks much better than she looks in the level . I've used " pretty creature eyes" in the sequel, hope that looks less creepy.

-Paintator dissapeared? Oh no! It must be because i used an emitter. To grab the fake paintator the player can sometimes "block" the actual paintator that should be emitted. Maybe setting it to emit more then one yet "max 1 at a time" would work. Dunno, i'll have to wait for the weekend to try that out.

Fixed some random issues and placed a completely unneccessary arrow! Actually misplaced it... Anyway;

-Slope is replaced with something that can be climbed.
-The part before the race is "tweaked" so the player wont fall right into the "race starting gate". I hope that wont cause the players to try and go back though...

That's it i guess... As i mentioned before i'll be working on the sequel!

Somethig big you should fix... In the beginning, if you run to the right from the car, you can drop down to the level and skip a big part. I really liked the gameplay and the graphics here, your characters were well illustrated. I always like good ol' platformers like this. You should check the lighting in some parts it was too dark and the camera angles made it worse. Other than that, those green lights you used really boosted the atmosphere! You should add checkpoints even to places where the player shouldn't die. Getting randomly crushed somewhere is annoying. Overall this level was fantastic.
