Temple of Sun and Moon (Spotlighted)

Archive: 41 posts

It's finally done and published. It took me freaking forever, but I think yall will like it.

Sorry, no crazy bosses. No epicness. Just solid platforming, an original storyline with 2 different endings (Technically 3), and it doesn't look too bad. Am I just doing the worst promotion ever? I think so. On the upside, it does have an awesome escape scene at the end...that is if you go for the good side.

Here's the video. Maybe that will work better than me...

Sorry about the unsynced sound. For some reason when I record video and audio, it somehow bends space-time and I end up with mismatches. At least you can get the general idea, right?

So PLAY IT! And heart that S.O.B! If you don't, the terrorists win.

No problem I wish more board members would really play eachothers levels (and give feedback) and not just expect for everyone to try their own so I really make it a point to do exactly that! I will try to add you on PSN when I am on later.2008-11-10 08:21:00

If you get a chance have a look at my level, Out of Africa, and let me know what you think. I will try to add you on PSN when I am on later.Actually, I already played it and barely beat it. There was one monkey on the river part that made me loose so many lives. And dragging that tank towards the lion king (lol) was a little annoying.

Other than that, I really liked it. The animals looked funny and tribesmen were entertaining. For them to be all custom is really good.

I can't find the level online anywhere. Also, on the other subject I think we should incorporate the crit4crit system. It has worked great on my guitar forum. Basically what it is, is if you tage your topic as crit for crit, others will know that you will give them feedback in exchange for giving you feedback, it works great and attracts a lot more attention, ending in more responses without having to bump like I did today and still haven't got any comments.2008-11-10 08:52:00

Crit for crit sounds like a good idea actually. Hopefully, I will have enough to time to play everyone's level...

I'll try and have a go at this tonight OCK Thanks and come back and tell me what you think. BTW, I'm not OCK.

I couldn't find it either Voltiare. You should always try to do a search on your level after publishing just to be on the safe side. Let me know if you publish again so I can have a look.2008-11-10 23:53:00

Alright. First off, I put up a new video with sound. You can find it in the original post.

Secondly, I changed the name of my level to "Temple of Sun and Moon [ Voltiare ]" so people can find it by just searching for "Voltiare". I searched "Temple of Sun and Moon" and I found it easily though...

Thirdly, I will try to do a Crit 4 Crit system. If you comment and critique my level, I will try to do the same for you. I do have school so it might take me a while though.

Wow it was rally nice, I've only completed one ending so I don't know the other yet, the only thing I would say is that it is really short. It seems much more of a story level than a platformer and there a huge amount of decoration so I wouldn't be surprised if you maxed the thermometer. But overall, it was beautiful.2008-11-12 07:19:00

Thanks for playing! Now you have to play it again for the other ending. Mwahaha, my plan works perfectly lol.

So do you have a level you want me to take a look at?

I wish the LBP levels were better organised so i didt have to go trough 20 lame levels to find a good one or find names of levels on a forum to input them in the search of LBP. They should support groups of creators and put them on their own planet so every good levels created by a group of people were easily accessible. Its such a mess right now and the game as only been out a couple of weeks.

Finally had a chance to play it, and it is very well done. I admire the fact that -like me- you pay attention to the details and make sure your level is not only fun to play but beautiful to look at. A couple of major problems I encountered though:

1. The moon temple section. Right at the start with the falling/electrified blocks. After jumping on the first block when you try to jump on the second one it will automatically make you jump into the background and therefore electrify you. This is incredibly frustaring although it is no fault of your own and has to do with the automatic plane detection. However, if you playtested the lvl prior to publishing the this problem MUST have been apparent. An easy solution is to slightly raise the electrified blocks so the player automatically jumps to the next block in the sequence.

2. The Sun key kept breaking. Let me know if I am doing something wrong. I simply pulled it off the ledge, down onto the ground and it broke everytime.

For these reasons I was unable to complete the level so let me know if there is a more efficient way to overcome these obstacles because I WILL go back and play again. (Btw, I gave a heart becuase I loved the look of the lvl and the hard work really shows).

I may just be an idiot, but if I am not mistaken you need to use a crescent moon sticker to open the door in the very beginning. I am guessing you get this sticker at some point during the story mode?

The problem is I have only been playing online levels, because I am saving the story levels for when I play with my friend, and we haven't had a chance yet. This means I have barely any stickers.

This just really sucks because I want to play your level really bad but now I wont be able to until me and my friend get a chance where we can run through the story levels together.

2) It's weird because this has never happened to me and I am hearing people have this problem. I'm not sure how I am going to fix it...maybe make the fall shorter?

Yeah, it's found in the story mode. I tried to put a prize bubble with the sticker in it in the level, but I couldn't figure out a way to do it. I'll try again because I've seen OCK do it.

I have a list of stuff I have to fix when I get home so I'll try to post an update soon.

Alright, I definitely loved your level.
Some very solid platforming, great choice of music, and replay value is also very good (2 endings O_o)

But...There's some things you need to do.
Like on that platform elevator, when I was being greedy and getting the bubbles, I fell down, and couldn't go back up on it. So, I had to restart the level. (Which is something very frustrating)
Another thing is (someone already mentioned), the electrified blocks at the moon part....Amazingly frustrating. I'm not being sarcastic or anything, it gave me a headache. Just take off that first electrified block. I think it's the only one causing the problems.

And of course, there's the moon sticker. You can't expect everyone to have it. How about taking a picture of it, and placing it as a prize bubble at the start of the level then?

Oh, and about the part where the Sun Key kept breaking, just make the Sun key a tad smaller. Ever played Donkey Show's level, Azure Palace? (You probably did >_>), he made it especially challenging to keep the key away from things that might break it.

Keep it up man. I hope you get more plays.

Just finished playing it and I really enjoyed it. Loved finding out the whole deal with bringing down the sun and the moon and especially loved having the option to be good or evil. I played it twice and enjoyed the being good ending better.

My main problem was like most have commented already. Getting on top of that first dissolving box was a problem for me. I got electrocuted the first time. In addition I personally didn't fall off the lift attempting to get coins but I did fall when I tried getting closer to the God when I brought the bomb over. I wanted to see him get destroyed lol. So what happened was that the floor caved in and I fell down.

Not sure how the lift can be resolved for those that fall early other then making a spawn point on the lift.

UPDATE

- Fixed the Moon Statue plane shifting problem, I think.
- Fixed the elevator into a sensor switch and took off the bubbles since they are just busy work and don't add anything to the level.
- The sticker switch at the beginning is a picture that you can find before getting to the door.
- I tried to lessen the fall of the Sun statue. Hopefully, that will help.
- I added a tablet to explain where to get another key. The switch was there before, but I want to point it out a little more. If your key breaks, go back to the altar and get another one.
- Added more sound effects like an angel choir when you bring down the sun or moon, dripping sound effect in the electrified ore field, and erie wind at the entrance.
- Added more blood stickers. Who doesn't love blood?

BTW, if you ever get stuck like staying near the bomb when it blows up, just do Try Again function on the pop-it to go back to the checkpoint above you. I put it there for a reason...for that and if you die or get stuck while escaping on the car.

Thank you all for playing. I really appreciate the fact that people like what I have created. Let me know if there is a level you want me to critic in exchange.

Aside from a couple of aforementioned bugs and glitches that can be fixed with a few button presses, very artistic and well tuned. Creative minds like yours is what will make LBP one of the best games for years to come. Probably the best user-created level I've played.2008-11-14 17:56:00

I replayed your level yesterday after you republished and had a few problems, hopefully some of this feedback is constructive:

Adding the sticker in the front is definitely helpful, but it took me a long time to find it in the Pop-It, as it is found in the "Community" section, which I've never had the need to go. For the folks who have completed the story mode, it'd be great if the sticker switch accepted either the sticker you added or the one you originally used. That way, for people who found the moon sticker in The Wedding, it'll be right there when they open the sticker section of the Pop-It.

I died 3 times in a row on one of the pistons that push you up to where you leave the sun and moon. The timing or trigger radius on the piston on the left seems off. I'd recommend either decreasing the trigger radius or adding a short delay before it goes off. If you watch that create mode Media Molecule video that's on the web, they recommend for angled pistons that the sensor be on the far end, to allow you to get close enough before it goes off.

The sun still broke for me. It's pretty easy for me to get it to happen. Just jump off that side of the level, with the sun portion (not base) pointing downward, jump off. It breaks as soon as it lands. You could try changing the material or maybe add some floaty material stars that emit below that cliff edge (maybe only after you get up there, to avoid interfering with spinning). You could then use those to slow you and the sun down when you fall.

When I got the moon, some blocks still fell in your emitter hell area, such that when I dragged the moon over, there were still 3 long stone blocks, one so tall that I couldn't get over it and I was trapped. Jumping around trying to get over it, I was electrocuted by something, seemingly in the rear plane.

The new sound and magic mouth elements are helpful. You may want to switch off the visibility of them though, to match the rest of the level.

Sorry if I seem overly critical. I do enjoy the level. I've just spent several years in game QA.

UPDATE

- The sticker switch can be activated by both the regular moon sticker and the one given in the level.
- I recalibrated the radius on the pistons in the entrance. Hopefully, they should work a bit better.
- I think I may have figured out what the problem was with the Sun statue. It was made with 2 pieces of dissolvable material instead of 1 like the Moon statue. I made it 1 piece and then tried to break it twice and couldn't do it.
- Messed around with the emitter hell blocks to fix the falling problem. It's the most complex setup I have done and I know of a way to fix it, but I would have to destroy the background because of the crappy gluing system. If it continues to mess up, I think I will have to.
- Made the new magic mouths invisible.

Thanks, sdstone for your experienced eye. When I make another level, I will be looking for you to test it lol.

Probably the best user-created level I've played.Wow. Really? That's pretty freaking kind of you, man lol.

I played your new version last night and it is indeed improved. The sun doesn't break for me any more and I didn't have any troubles with the emitter hell area. I was able to finish it with both endings. There are, of course a few things remaining:

You haven't made the water drip sound speaker invisible

There is a hole in the rear plane of the wall next to the button to get a new sun. I fell in there and couldn't get out without using the Retry.

The moon can fall to the left of the floor on which you have to place the moon, requiring you to go get another, as you can't get it up to that floor.

The first piston on the left seems better now, but though I didn't die from it, the second piston on the left seems a bit overpowered, I hit the ceiling easily. Maybe reduce the strength a little?

Once I placed the bomb and it went off, The floor I was standing on collapsed and I couldn't find a way up and had to use the Retry. It's not clear that heading to the car is what you should do. I'd suggest making the floor fall such that it could be climbed back up and you can't fall so far that you can't climb up, or add to the hint that says that you'll have 10 seconds.

Cool level and the two endings add good replayability.

UPDATE

- Speaker is invisible now.
- Hole is gone. Seriously, how did you even find that? lol
- Made the cliff for the moon statue a little wider.
- Turned down the piston and made the cliff easier to land.
- Put a warning alarm sound effect for when the bomb is about to explode.

Again, thanks for all your effort. Let me know when you have a level up for me to play.

Nice level, i played it just now.Thanks. But you know...a TRUE fan plays it twice for the other ending lol.

I enjoyed your level but some parts were needlessly hard IMO, like the falling bricks and one swing over an electric blob. Nice art design and cool structure overall. One other note is to maybe make the place where you take the sun and the moon a little more obvious.

Check out my level if you get a chance. https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=5027

Just played for the first time. Great level! I really enjoyed it.

A couple things:
- If you go behind the temple to grab the prize bubble, you can just keep right on going for a very long time. That should probably be restricted. Just put some more stuff in the back plane so you can't keep going.
- It could have some point bubbles. It's fun running around trying to grab them... just don't overuse them and they do add to the gameplay.
- The difficulty was fine, I didn't find it too easy nor too hard.
- Really loved the good ending.
- Good attention to detail, even when things don't go exactly as you planned them.

Very well done!

Oh wow, this is very nice. I especially liked the collapsing temple in the good ending. You say there are technically three endings, what do you mean by that? dying? You know the wall section of the room with the car? It has a checkpoint glued on it.

So you drive the car and the wall falls to the ground. If you die on the car chase somehow, you will reappear at that checkpoint which has another scoreboard by it. The section is really lame so I don't recommend playing it again to find it lol. I just put that in just in case.

BTW, thanks to everyone for all the love. I think I will fix that the issues, Risen. Thanks for the advice.
