Enemy Healthbars

So I'm trying to make a healthbar for my enemies.

The problem is I don't want the healthbar to show up, until the enemy takes damage.

something like this pop over its head. If it takes damage then one of the squares will disappear.

I wanted it to be 5 squares for each time it takes a hit from a projectile. Each square being a different color from Red -> Green. Every time it takes damage, a square would un-light.

I used holograms, and they worked, except I couldn't choose the color I wanted. They were always that glowy blue color. The closest thing I could find to what I wanted was neon, but the problem is there is always a black bar over my enemies head, and it looks awkward.

Anyone have any ideas??

When you used the hologram, you say you couldn't choose the color you wanted? That might be because of your lighting settings. In a default blank level, there's too much light to really see the color of the hologram. Tweak the global lighting down a few notches, and you should be able to distinguish the different colors (after you tweak the material of course) 2011-01-23 08:45:00
