Level Sorting/Filtering

Archive: 11 posts

Thanks to a day's worth of work and neglected meals, we can now proudly say we fully support filtering by level type in our Level Showcase and Cool Levels.

How does this work? When you post a level (and provide us with your level's details), we automatically assign your level (and thus, your thread) with a piece of data that indicates whether it's LBP1 or LBP2. You'll be able to clearly see which levels are LBP1 and which are LBP2 by glancing at them (you don't even have to enter the thread!), and you can click their icon or the filter tools at the top to filter by that level type. We fully support all other sorting methods while adding/removing these filters, so if you want to sort by most replied LBP2 threads, by author in LBP1, or any other mix of filters and sort features, we support it. And we retain your sort preferences when you move between filter options as well, so don't worry about having to click three or four times to get the result you want.

You may notice some levels lacking an indicator of whether they are LBP1 or LBP2. There are a couple reasons why this may be:

The level author never included or removed the [lbpmelevelurl] tag in their level post. If we don't see that tag, we won't apply an indicator (because it doesn't make sense to apply an indicator to a thread we have no info on, right?).
The thread hasn't yet been viewed by someone. We don't apply these tags in batches - they only get applied when someone views the level's thread. Usually this means immediately (the person who posts the thread would obviously be the one to load the thread), but sometimes it may take an extra view - especially if LBP.me's servers go down at some point (as they did today).

Now, we have taken the liberty of applying LBP1 tags to all levels posted before 1/18/11, just to ensure the majority of levels we have are filterable, but there are probably some we missed. In those cases, you can help us update our database by viewing a thread or two. They'll get updated automatically from there.

Thanks for all the support thus far. Be sure to report any bugs you may encounter so we can squash them!

That's super awesome! I love how much you're getting out of lbp.me.

Time to go queue some LBP2 levels.

Hm, well.... this looks familiar.

lol I wasn't going to say it but since you mentioned it....

On a more serious note, CC, I like the new look and filter option! I filtered to search for all LBP2 levels on the 'Cool Levels' page and only 3 came up, and 2 of the 3 were actually LBP1 levels. This (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=4783-Project-Flux) being one of them, and this (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=25428-Power-of-the-Planet-***SPOTLIGHTED!***) being the other.

So I looked them up on LBP.me and it looks like the authors republished their levels in LBP2, which then makes them LBP2 levels. So I guess it's not going to be a perfect system because of that, but hey, it's close enough!

Nah, I mean to say that it looks familiar in another capacity (read: somewhere else did it first). No bother...2011-01-23 13:59:00

Our system is designed to change the tag associated with a thread if the author changes the level associated with it - so it shouldn't be misidentifying threads as LBP1 if the LBP.me link included is truly an LBP2 level. If it is, that's a bug, and I'll make sure it doesn't do that anymore.

EDIT: Appears Project Flux is indeed marked as an LBP2 level, so things appear to be running as intended.

Wouldn't the level showcase make more sense under LittleBigPlanet General, not LittleBigPlanet PS3?2011-01-23 21:16:00

It would if it involved LBP for PSP, but it doesn't. Our setup mimics the servers themselves. LBP PSP has their own set of servers, so they get their own Level Showcase here. LBP/LBP2 share a server, so they share a Level Showcase here.
