Music Sequencer - Changing instruments without having to redo the tune?
Archive: 11 posts
As usual, I feel this might be something to which the answer is obvious and I missed it, but is there a way for me to change instruments on the fly when sequencing music? For instance, I'm trying to recreate a tune (Chrome Gadget from Sonic 3's multiplayer ) and I've gotten a fair way through it, but I think maybe a different set of instruments would work for the lead and bass. Is there any quick way to change one instrument to another without losing the notes I've placed already, or will I have to do everything from scratch? | 2011-01-23 03:57:00 Author: ChazFox Posts: 132 |
Unfortunately you have to start from scratch. I had to for a Sequence I was doing. But I suggest that you place to two instruments side by side and try and "mimic" the notes. Hope this helped. Happy Creating! | 2011-01-23 04:00:00 Author: Twilightoutcast Posts: 80 |
Actually, just placing a new instrument on top should work. At least it does for me. | 2011-01-23 07:47:00 Author: Unknown User |
Ah, so it does! I knew it was going to be something obvious that I hadn't tried properly yet. XD Thank you, Fyshokid, you've saved me a lot of frustration in making music! | 2011-01-23 19:52:00 Author: ChazFox Posts: 132 |
No problem. I really think Media Molecule should've made a more in-dept tutorial for the music sequencer. There's a ton of stuff you can do with it that isn't explained in the current tutorial, which is kinda sad. | 2011-01-23 20:12:00 Author: Unknown User |
I agree, although I think the tutorials are kept simple so that the players can get started with making music fairly quickly, and eventually learn the rest through experimentation. In that way, Mm are leaving it to the communities to learn, discover and share tips and tricks with other folks. Which means I probably should have checked the tutorials section on this forum for a Sequencer/Music Sequencer tutorial before asking this question. My bad. SO SO glad I found this post. I've been wondering the same exact thing. I've just stared at it thinking to myself, " There is NO WAY I shouldn't be able to do this." Thanks guys. | 2011-01-28 16:09:00 Author: bigkurz8 Posts: 60 |
I believe it is also possible to select all notes in a pattern (drag a box around them) and then drag them onto another pattern. Gotta fiddle around with it some more. | 2011-01-28 16:13:00 Author: Antikris Posts: 1340 |

I'm not sure that works, as it brings up a big music editor box which I don't think you can drag things out of. | 2011-01-28 16:54:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
Actually, just placing a new instrument on top should work. At least it does for me. Thank you, I also was trying everything I could think of with no luck. Sometimes the answer is just so obvious. This makes life so much easier! | 2012-10-03 16:59:00 Author: joelombardo830 Posts: 14 |
Why bother bumping this after nearly two years? | 2012-10-03 23:07:00 Author: PGdafrog Posts: 277 |
