MGS Spotlight Sackbot Tracking...

Archive: 10 posts

Wondering if it's possible to get the spotlight from the MGS pack to track my sackbot, I just bought the MGS pack so i haven't been successful in getting it to track anything, but i noticed there's an output on the light, so it must be possible, i tryed running it to a tag on the sackbot's circuit board without any luck, another question i had is how do you have to mount the light itself, what kind of bolt will allow it to freely track a player or bot? hope i didn't make this sound more complicated than it is.

I have a sackbot that patrols back and forth and i want the spotlight hanging in the middle overhead to track him left and right...any ideas?

Just hold the spotlight in mid air with a gravity tweaker with a small bit of dampening. Add a follower from the advanced movers section and get it to follow the tag that is on the sackbot, when he runs past it will track him.

This can be adapted by simply getting it to follow the player for it to work on sackboy

this method will stay overhead of the sackbot then? shining the light straight down on top of him? i'm looking for it to pivot in the middle of his patrol spot and shine left and right as he walks left and right, i tryed sequencing it with a wobble bolt but it always goes a little off. i'll give it a shot though2011-01-23 00:48:00

Yes this method will follow him wherever he goes, the small bit of dampening will keep it in the same place while allow it to rotate. It is much simpler than synchronizing with a wobble bolt because it knows where the sackbot is rather than you trying to manually time it.2011-01-23 00:51:00

Instead of a wobble bolt, just use a regular bolt with 0 strength and attach a "look at" sensor. Then just tell it what to look at with a tag 2011-01-23 00:51:00

one more dumb question, how can i set an action to be one time only, with a constant ON signal for the rest of the game? i want a warning sound to occur if you step in the light and then stay on regardless, right now it can be turned back off by stepping back into the light (i used a toggle switch between the light and the sound) any ideas?2011-01-23 01:24:00

Well there's a couple of ways to mage a permanent switch in circuitry. Rtm covered them pretty extensively.

However, rather than making you run and look for his blog, I'll just tell ya. You can have a counter set to 1 and then the input makes it count up one. Set NOTHING to the reset input. Or, my personal favorite, you can use an "OR" switch, with one of the inputs being it's own output. That way, when it is activated once, it continues to activate itself forever. You can also us a timer, but that has a delay. And if you really wanted to, you could use physical logic, but thats more thermo intensive. Besides, circuitry is cool

Use a counter instead of your toggle. Make the count on it 1, and don't wire anything to the reset input. It should stay triggered forever no matter what you do 2011-01-23 01:33:00
