Blast Radius help :)

Hi guys,

it's just me........Johnee, your local neighbourhood creator did I spell neighbourhood correct? hmmmmmmmmmmmmm?

anyway, as you all know I recently published a level called 'Blast Radius' and based on comments I have read realise there are a few problems in it that I didn't have time to fix when I made it,

one of them was balancing the light to make the asteroids more visible, the problem is everyone has different tv's and different settings on their tv's when I made it it worked well on mine but clearly based on comments not so well on others, so I'm going to try and fix that first.

also if you have a dark poppit colour you cant see your bullets or menu or ship very well as they all adopt your poppit colour.

plus i need a life indicator, there is 6 lives shared amongst all players.

and a bomb indicator to let you know when you have a bomb, currently you get a new one after 30 secs of using it, which is indicated by a sound but is obviously easy to miss

and finally not many people realise you even have a bomb or how to change weapons so I need to display the controls in the menu,



ok now its your turn lbpc, you guys rock and I need your feedback, tell me what you think needs improving and why, and I will of course do my best to oblige

Hi johnee nice to see you here in LBPC lol well ok I have a couple of suggestions and answers that can help you. The life indicator can be done in a couple of ways, you can create a small spaceship logo and the number of life in the top left corner of your level (specially in your level because the camera doesn't move) so it will looks something like this in the top left corner of your level.

example: ---> (logo) X6 <--- number of life

Everytime you die it move down to the next one 6,5,4,3,2,1. The same thing can be done with the bomb indicator and the weapons indicator, you can create a small logo and place it in the top right corner or better under the number of lives. Everythime you or another player uses the bomb it will go away for 3o secs to 1 min then you can use it again.

Some of the other problems I dont know how to fix them, sorry.

oh lol sorry
well I was playing with 3 friends and we were playing your level and it was fine to me. Also I suggest to put a boss battle if you can, make the boss come up when you get a score like 50,000 or something.

Needs more cake. Apart from that, it's perfect.

Actually, something I think would be cool, is some kind of bonus mode where all the lights kinda "pulse" to the music, if that makes sense. It's not really anything important, though it'd still be pretty nice.

I think after a while astroids should become less common as the enemies become more common. where there is a huge field of tiny astriods it's next to impossible to get those larger ships, though you may have intended that hence the bomb (which I just learned about, hah.)2011-01-23 02:52:00

Honestly, I caught on to all the controls after just a short period of time, I found no real issues with the level, except I wish it had had a better icon, I wouldv'e played it sooner! I'm always enticed by a good icon. 2011-01-23 02:54:00

the ship and the menu and your weapons all take the colour you choose for your poppit

I've played this a few times (very addicting btw) I'm not having any issues with the lighting and visibility on my tv but it is a HD.

The one thing that did confuse me was it seemed like on the last collective life all our ships turned the same color. The bullets remained player color but the ships all went blue. Did you do that as an indicator that we were on the last life? Personally I found it confusing and hard to figure out which one I was.

I played the heck out of this level! I found the boss to be a bit too difficult for my taste: the screen filled up with enemies and asteroids when he showed up and I had to put all of my bullets into them with none to spare for the boss. It was better when I played two player with my nephew: we could actually hit the boss a little between the little ships and asteroids, but still pretty tough. And I'm not sure if we actually beat it once and another one showed up or if we just couldn't kill it.

Now for the problems. In multiplayer, on your last life, if one person dies, the camera goes to the scoreboard so the surviving players can't see what they're doing and they end up dying quickly. The really small asteroids are basically invisible when they get in front of the sun (the sun is awesome, btw! Love the eclipse). The first few times my nephew and I played, we would get stuck at the boss. Like he'd push us off screen and we'd be stuck and unable to pop ourselves or anything, so we just had to restart (which sucked, 'cuz I got to 49000 pts on one of those attempts and it took forever for me to get a score that high again.... did I mention that I played it for like two hours straight?) I think those were the only problems I had. The death thing and the boss difficulty might be intentional, and I'm really not sure what exactly happened to get us stuck or why it only happened the first couple times we played--sorry I couldn't be more help.

I loved this level in a serious way. I'm gonna be returning to this one a lot, I'm sure.

One tiny suggestion I have would be to give a subtle hint about the boss's weak spot on the tail. It wasn't until the second time I played this that I finally saw the little ball blink when I hit it, almost by accident. The time I played before that I was firing at the hull of the ship and had no idea if I was doing damage or what. Dim light or a slight colour change would help, I think.
