Dissolving material holding in create, but not in play...

So, I have a cave section in my level, and I have set it up so that at certain sections you get rocks falling from the ceiling.

This works by a proximity sensor connected to veins of dissolving material in the rocks in the ceiling. I created the big chunks of rock hanging down first and then embedded veins of dissolving material so the rocks break into smaller pieces as they fall and when they hit the ground. It all works perfectly in the create mode, but in play made, as soon as I get to the first proximity sensor (there are three in total) all the rocks fall to the ground at the same time. I did notice that the dissolving material is still attached to the later rocks though, and it still disappears when you pass the sensors, but the rocks are already on the ground so its useless.


Thinking about it today (at work) I have come up with two possible solutions, based on the idea that the rocks are not properly attached to the cave ceiling by via the veins of dissolving material.

1. Glue the individual pieces of rock to the dissolving material, and glue the topmost section of dissolving material to the cave ceiling.

2. completely encase the pieces of rock in dissolving material.

I still don't understand why they all fall ONLY when i get to the first sensor though, and not as soon at the level starts. And why does it work ok in create mode?

Anyone had similar problem, or have any ideas on how to solve this problem?

i think that the problem might be that you have a continuous vain from start to finish and if that happens then it will all disolve, you need to seperate it, and another thing, if you move anything in create mode even if you are on the ground you need to rewind so that they are not activated anymore, so lets say that you have a contaption that can only be activated once and you decide to test it you do and you are happy with it and go to play mode, but when you do that thing that can only happen once has already happened so make sure to rewind because ANYTHING that you do in create flying or not, will stay like that for play mode and not revert unless you rewind

Thanks for the suggestions rainfire. But I am sure that the veins are not all connected up. They are most definitely separated. Also I did make sure to rewind before going to play mode. everything is where it should be until I get to the first sensor, then all three rockfalls trigger and fall - although only the first piece of dissolving material dissolves. The second and third rockfalls, drop from the ceiling, but don't break apart as they would if the material dissolved. It's really strange... Hope someone can help with this......2008-11-09 23:28:00
