Sensing Impact with Holographic Material

Hello, I am trying to make a game in which you fire projectiles that are made of holographic material and have been lethalized with plasma. The only problem is that I cannot find a way for the object (say an enemy) to sense it has been hit by the holographic projectiles, as holograms go through everything. Neither an impact sensor nor projectile sensor can sense them, as far as I have tried. I have seen this work in several Story Mode mini-games, but was just wondering how they pull it off. Have you tried detecting touch? I am using holo material to make a "track" to guide some bots on a level I am making now. It can detect impact. I had to set my impact sensor to detect touching and require a tag on the on the holo material it comes in contact with so that I can tell the difference between various impacts. I could be wrong, but I think I remember most of the basic creating stuff being locked at the beginning, and can be unlocked through the tutorials. Since holographic material is under Basic Materials, you may need to play through the tutorial that introduces the basic materials.
