Acing = IMPOSSIBLE!

Archive: 50 posts

ARGH!

I've tried about 50 times to ace "Into the Heart of the Negativitron", but I just can't do it.

I go and try to ace some of the other levels in the Cosmos, and I fail each time.

Is anyone else having a ton of trouble acing things?

I can get to the third stage of the final boss, and get one of his bubbles popped, but then he goes crazy with his laser, and I end up getting killed.

I aced the Bunker my first time through in LBP1... What's happening to me?

It's possible, it just takes time and patience. A lot of both. =]

Try to stay in a corner on the 3rd phase of the boss, and jump when he shoots a laser in your direction. Don't tap, hold the x for a bigger jump, and careful not to accidentally jump into the plasma walls. Hope this helps somewhat. Don't give up!

Everything takes time, do we really expect everyone to have aced every story level in the first week of the release? I think not, practise makes perfect, sometimes you gotta be patient. BUT if you do want to do it now, the third part in the Negativitron is all about timing your jumps, and personally I find Full Metal Rabbit much harder.2011-01-22 05:24:00

Make sure you make good timing with jumps when Negativitron goes "PEW PEW PEW" with hologram lasers projectiles.2011-01-22 10:54:00

Against the Negativitron part 3:
- When he shoots from side to side, wait in the oposite sidethen as the shots approach you, jump in the oposite direction, his shots don't actually kill you (nor the "explosion" but when the shot reaches the ground, it plasmafis it, so just avoid touching the squares of ground it's at.
- After, simply stay in center or as close to it as possible, its your best bet to survive.
- When throwing the pie at its braind, stand at about where the pie is at, tap X, then release R1.

Not really that diffcult, m8, you should see how many already di in my thread: "I just aced all story levels!"

For me, the hardest part is the second stage, because it's so random. Any tips?Understanding the way the grappling mechanic work helps. practice that. The bottom bounce platform has a set pattern, learn it and anticipate where it will be instead of trying to chase it. Stay ahead of the pattern and you hardly even need to use the grapplehook. hope that helps a little.2011-01-22 14:35:00

I literally just aced that **** rabbit stage and it was a beast....only 2-3 more levels to beat before my story mode is finished, acing each level as I play it, haha Definitely more difficult than LBP1.2011-01-22 23:45:00

I got hit by his first attack in the hampster but other than that I aced it first try. I'm working my way through the levels acing atm though. I'll get round to trying again on the boss.2011-01-23 00:00:00

Acing really is harder now. Levels can be longer, thanks to level links, allowing for more places to die.2011-01-23 02:28:00

With the exception of Full Metal and Where in the World, which are not all that hard, the levels are easier to ace I think.

I've now collected everything in the game.

The part I keep dying in is when you're swing from the platforms.Mostly because the controls for the graple hook are far from perfect and due to the fact that I somhow miss the fail-safe platform Clive and Avalon are controlling because the platforms are on the first layer I guess.2011-01-23 05:39:00

Whhoo hoo... I've almost finsihed collecting and acing every level. Just gotta do one more level and I'm done... I'm guessing it'll take me awhile to finish this one though. It's that, Where In The World is... blah one... on the Cosmos part... It's frustrating as, specially that bit with the elevator and your sackbots have to shoot the baddies... I can never get past it... irratating as, and knowing that I still gotta climb the giant robot and kill him too... I got no chance! lol2011-01-23 15:27:00

I WOULD have aced the last level if I could throw those pies properly. I threw over seven but only hit one bubble. I'll try the tap x at the pie spot and release r thing though. Anyway, I'm far from acing everything so it will be a while before I am able to create any levels... Maybe...2011-01-23 15:33:00

I got through that part by simply staying under his mouth in one specific area (lasers hit in like 1/8 chunks of the floor) and not moving but simply jumping lightly before the lasers hit. Then of course move, throw a pie, run back, rinse, repeat.2011-01-23 16:25:00

I just fought the Negativitron for the first time and haven't beaten him yet. The second part confused me until I just figured out the mechanics of bouncing/swinging and then swinging back up on his head.

The third part had me outright panicking because I couldn't for the life of me understand how I would dodge those lasers... they took up practically the whole screen. I found going to the side and hopping over the edge of one worked well, but I had no idea that the lasers themselves couldn't hurt you, only the floor where they hit. That should make things much more manageable. It will probably take me a few tries to ace it but I'm pretty sure I can. It can't be harder than the Bunker can it? ;-)

Just played the boss, I think it is somewhat unclear that you can just jump over the lasers. :/
Haven't tried acing yet though.

Once you know how to take care of the final boss it is seriously easy.

Phase 1:
Move right in hamster but wait for laser to stop. Then fly out and hit the brain on the right side of its head. Drop immediately as its head hits the floor, fly to the opposite side quickly to avoid laser and repeat until it's dead, flying right then left etc each time head falls.

Phase 2: (In my opinion trickiest one)
Just play it safe. You can bounce off the checkpoint thing if the next one is too far and it is in range. But in general just keep your momentum going so you can fly to the next bounce pad no matter where it appears. There will be a bouncepad that spawns in the top right a bit away from one in the lower left so that's the only one that sometimes caught me out if I was moving too slow. Once you get your rhythm it's only a matter of time for this thing to die.

Phase 3:
Found this tricky at first but I now think it's actually the easiest form of the 3. The firing pattern is absolute so you know exactly what will happen, just jump when it gets close and go in the opposite direction it is firing. Then when the cakes get thrown out:

Pick cake up.
Move so back is against wall, as far back as you can go.
Jump and throw cake.

This method worked 100% for me as the first few times I played I was completely baffled by the cakes and hit once in who knows how many times.

The Avalon level is the hardest to ace. Much more frustrating than the negativitron.

Also, to those concerned about the subtlety of jumping over the negativitron lasers, bounce pads activate for the first 'superlaser' attack - indicating you can jump over them.

Just aced the story mode today, it made me RAGE many a time lol.
Here's a list of the most memorable annoying bit I stuggled with...

2nd phase of Negativitron
Full metal Rabbit.
Cant remember the level name... the one with the arcade at the start. That level on the bit where you have to jump over some electric, land on a spinning wheel, but not come off too fast cause the ceiling is electric.
the elevator at the start of stage 2 for where in the world etc.
Avalon boss.
Clives level where you need to get the fire shooting machines to hit the floor.

UGH, was worth it though. I never did Ace LBP1 story mode, should go back and do it.
Now for the rest of the prize bubbles, at 92% atm, mostly 3x 4x areas left.

I am having a lot of trouble acing "fight of the bumblebee"...totally sucks.

i hate to be "that guy" but i really found this game to be waaay easier to ace compared to LBP1... the third part of the final battle, start on the right and learn the pattern... its really easy.. and when the pie pops up, stand all the way against the wall, jump and throw... works every time... fight of the bubble bee, was harder. ( if thats the one with the pink cubes you shoot).. if thats the case, when you get to the last guy, the pink cubes track your current position, so keep scrolling up and down while mashing shoot... i got that one second try...

learning the grapple in this game makes it easy...

Acing LBP2 is possible. I just did it one day before I have had the game for only one week. With much yelling at sackbots and urges to break my controller, I aced every level and got 100% of the prizes. Now In happy. All you have to do is memorise how the levels work and keep trying. If you never give up, eventually you will break through successful.2011-01-25 06:46:00

Well, aced the final boss yesterday and then all the levels today all within 4 days of having the game (I"m sure everyone is so impressed beyond toleration). I find the third form is actually made a lot easier if you try to not think of any elaborate strategies like the second part; I was utterly annihilated by his lasers until I figured out horizontal movement isn't required to dodge any of them. I just stood in one corner and made short hops and only moved to the opposite side when he was preparing to do his bite attack and to get into attack position.

Overall, the fight is still a lot more impressive then the Collector from LBP1 and while the Cosmos as a whole were really frustrating to ace, they're at least not as madness-inducing as the Wilderness but at the same time a lot more epic, which makes it a complete improvement I suppose.

if you are having trouble with the third part, memorize the pattern that he does then you'll know when to jump. here's the vid i was looking at:

i haven't aced the thing myself but this is how i intend to do it.

The only thing I find truly annoying is that when you Retry on a level with a level link you start at the first one instead of the most recent. It makes "Where in the World" and "Full Metal Rabbit" exceedingly frustrating.2011-01-25 13:27:00

This one (it's called "Set a course for the Negativitron," or something like that") was the most annoying for me. That part you're talking about where you have to time your release from the spinning bubble wrap and there are electric walls and ceilings. That sucked hard. Especially since that part is so far into the level. I'd breeze through and then hit that part and die and then have to start over again from the ship's bridge. After, like, a dozen tries I really started to hate running through that arcade and watching the unskippable cut scene where the Negativitron lays the smackdown on your ship and Higgenbotham talks to you on the monitor. Grrr. Just thinking about it makes me annoyed!

Awesome level, though. Don't get me wrong. It's just a pain to ace.

Same here! I didn't have too much trouble with any other level. I still don't know how to do that part reliably. I killed myself repeatedly practicing that section but couldn't figure out the trick...I usually got flung too high by the wheel and would hit the ceiling. I eventually got it by dumb luck. I don't think I'll ever play this level again, the low-gravity jumping sure was fun though!

Try to grab the wheel at 9 o'clock and let go at 3 o'clock. This should send you straight up so you can avoid the walls. That's the theory, at least. Getting the timing just right can be rather tricky.
