Wait, what happened to independent cameras for online multiplayer?

Archive: 7 posts

I remember hearing a while back that LBP2's online multiplayer was going to let each player have their own camera instead of sharing a screen with the other three players, so that they could explore to their heart's content, without worrying about going offscreen and getting timed out.

Yet, the first multiplayer session I go into, I try going as far from the other player as possible, and either one of us still gets a warning timer. I'm not sure if it's a level-specific thing (Maybe levels made in LBP1 still have the distance limit?), but if MediaMolecule pulled out independent multiplayer cameras at the last minute I'd be pretty annoyed. I was looking forward to the fun of exploration without having to stick close to my teammates.

I think it's only versus levels where you have individual cameras.2011-01-22 01:53:00

It's a versus level thing.

Personally I want to see it as a creator tweak for any level, but that's just me

That's a shame. I was really looking forward to seeing some co-op puzzle levels where players are forced to split up in order to solve each puzzle. (And of course it'd make hangout maps much more fun, since people can go wherever they want instead of being forced to travel round the place as a group.)2011-01-22 01:56:00

People can still do those, it just can't be locally as there is no split screen.

I know that. But this was an online session I was playing (Thanks to Dive In), and it still wouldn't let me put any distance between myself and the player. I was hoping they'd have that feature for standard maps, but it sounds like I'd have to make my map a Versus Map (even if it isn't actually a versus game I'm making) just so I can let players explore wherever they want.2011-01-22 02:14:00

You could always make the "Hangout" level a "Versus" level without point limit or time limit, problem solved!
