Camera without Sackboy?

Archive: 2 posts

Hey Guys,

I remember reading a lot about how Sackboy doesn't need to be on screen anymore; however, I can't get this to work. When I set a game camera to some area far away, the camera refuses to go any further once Sackboy's on the edge of the screen. This is even true with Player Tracking at 0%. What am i doing wrong?

It seems like "Movie Camera" is more flexible in this area; however, if I were to use this I would need the black bars to disappear. Is THAT possible?

_____

EDIT: SOrry, please ignore question for now. I see a few similar threads, and will try and utilize those methods before returning. Hopefully i don't!

I was able to find the solution on the various tutorials across the interwebs. In case someone else stumbles upon this thread and is having the same problem as me, here you go.

PROBLEM: You want to control something remotely, like a Top Down Racing Game or a Pacman game (what i'm doing) but can't get the camera to move over there once you activate the Controllinator.

SOLUTION:

Place a MOVIE camera in the location you want to show. Set it up to display the area but DON'T WORRY ABOUT THE BLACK BARS. Even though the black bars show up when you set the zone for the camera to display, they WILL NOT BE THERE once this setup is complete.

Now, return to the TRANSMITTING CONTROLLINATOR (I'm not sure if it actually matters which Controllinator you use, but this is what I did and it worked). Near the top, middle of the controller, you'll see a Power Button with an Output. That output is labeled Active Controllinator. Attach that output to the movie camera you setup first. Now, when you activate the Controllinator, the camera will automatically switch to the movie cam over your 2d area (or whatever you did).

Special Note: If you want the camera to be stationary (As in a 2d Top-Down Level), you can place it anywhere over near the level. If you want it to FOLLOW (For example, following a remotely controlled sackbot), place it on the microchip for the sackbot.
