You heard right. The US PlayStation Blog posted this on there site, stating an upcoming open beta for Killzone 3 (releasing in 30 days, or so it says).


Hello PlayStation Nation! Killzone 3 launch is now just 30 short days away, but for those of you who just can’t stand to wait any longer, we’ve got some good news: The Killzone 3 Multiplayer Open Beta will be available for download on the PlayStation Network on Wednesday, February 2nd.

This Open Beta will be available for free to all North American PS3 users and will run from Feb 2nd-14th, giving you the perfect chance to get hands-on with Killzone 3′s brutal online warfare and try out the revamped precision controls. You will also have the option to play using the PlayStation Move and stereoscopic 3D.

The Open Beta will offers exclusive early access to the MP05 ‘Frozen Dam’ multiplayer level from Killzone 3, including all three online multiplayer modes: Guerrilla Warfare, Warzone and Operations, along with the offline multiplayer mode, Botzone.

“Frozen Dam” is a sprawling asymmetrical map set in an old dam facility, the playing field in MP05 has been carefully tailored to fit each of the multiplayer modes. Here are the four multiplayer modes included with the Open Beta:

Guerrilla Warfare (16 players)
Guerrilla Warfare is a standalone multiplayer mode similar to classic Team Deathmatch: You and your teammates must try to kill as many of the opposing team as you can before the timer runs out. In this mode, only the downstream monitor houses and repair bay are accessible, giving the map a very frantic pace.

Warzone (24 players)
If you’ve played Killzone 2, you may already be familiar with Warzone. It’s a round-based multiplayer campaign that consists of five randomly ordered mini-missions. In this mode, the power house and penstocks directly under the dam are accessible as well, so there’s more room to come up with different strategies and approaches to your goal.

Operations (16 players)
Operations is a new multiplayer campaign which aims to deliver a more cinematic, story-based gameplay experience, similar to that of Killzone 3′s single-player mode. It consists of a sequence of linear mini-missions, in which the ISA must try to secure the docks and destroy the dam, while the Helghast must try to protect the dam facility.

Botzone (one player and up to 15 bots)
Botzone is an offline multiplayer mode ideal for those looking to get to grips with the controls, the weapons or the map layout before going up against live players. Each of the aforementioned multiplayer modes can be played offline, against CPU-controlled opponents.

And of course, the open beta is just a taste of what you’ll get in Killzone 3′s multiplayer experience. For more details on Killzone 3′s multiplayer maps, check out the full briefing on Killzone.com.

I just tried the beta and there are two things that bug me.

First I wonder if there is a way to choose sides because I always play the ISA though I hate the ISA and if not I wonder if you can choose by yourself in the final game. Does anyone know?
Second thing is that I have lot's of problems with playing online. First I couldn't manage to join the multiplayer and then I couldn't find anyone. o_O		2011-02-03 21:40:00

I just heard about this a few days ago, which is funny because I've been itching to get KZ2 back from a friend since I loved the multiplayer. I'm slowly getting used to it again.

Today us germans got a lot of videos from the final game. The opening, a lot of gameplay and even the ending (which I didn't watch of course) and I noticed that we get a german dubbed version! >_> God I hope we can choose language or else I will wait a bit longer to get the english version.2011-02-04 15:54:00

I think like KZ2 you can pick your language at startup.

Incorrect, this is most likely a stress test, to make sure the severs will be able to handle a large amount of players, its fairly common, and why you see so many "multiplayer open BETAs" or "demos" simply to be sure the whole thing won't crash down on release date, so yes it has testing reasons.
(Maybe, I'm not saying this is 100% sure for Stress testing, just that its the most common reason for this kind of thing.)		2011-02-05 09:28:00

Connecting to the servers in this game is a pain, I only managed to play one match and couldn't connect again.
Interestingly, when I set my language to "Brazilian Portuguese", it gives an instant error message, but when I switch to "English", it stays at the connecting screen. For minutes. 		2011-02-05 10:06:00

I have had no problems connecting online, the game is great. As with every BETA I only played for a couple of hours, I don't want to get bored of it before the game actually comes out lol. I couldn't connect at all today

But so far I maxed out the medic class, The M82E is a very nice weapon. It's also good to get to use the revolver again, that gun made me love Killzone 2 with its... meatiness.

I realized that I'm not really interested in the multiplayer beta. I guess it's because I can't choose sides and because I don't want to play one map all the time since there is no point to spend too much time on a beta. When the game is out and I can choose sides I will spend more time on it for sure (after I beat the story of course because that's the most important thing about the game).2011-02-05 21:43:00

I dunno! I guess everyone in that match just sucked a lot? And I always play as the medic, so I was running around reviving people the whole time, and so I killed the person that had just killed them, and that happened like 10 times lol...Then the other 9 kills were from camping in that place really high up, with the big window and right near that bridge.		2011-02-05 21:56:00

Foofles, when you are close enough to the person and melee them it will choose what melee finisher you do based on if the person is looking at you or not, then it will randomize between the different finishers. I think theres only like, eight? Besides that theres really no system to it.
You can also kill people with normal melee(Swinging your gun) by being too far to do a finisher and then moving closer to them.		2011-02-05 22:04:00

I haven't been able to get online for two days...it only seems to let me on when I get invited for a clan or something =/
I got to play one online game though and this is by far the best FPS I've ever played
The move controller works really well too...better than a controller if you play with the settings (I had to take the deadzones off and started getting headshots like crazy lol)

when you get into this game, it's really fun!
I've maxed out infiltrator, so i can disguise as the enemy team.
When some enemies come against me, i turn around and shoot at my teammates.
Then they think i'm one of them! So when they walk past me...

Is anyone else getting this when they join?

"Error code 5....something about not finding stats for game asking me if I want to play in the game that just loaded or quit to the menu."

After dominating about 4 games my level never raised. It showed my XP gained after each match but I wasn't gaining any unlock points and my level-up bar always stayed at zero. Am I missing something?		2011-02-06 15:36:00

After having the beta for over 4 days. I finally got into an online game without stupid error messages. Only to average a negative K/D.

Haha that's the way to go! All I had to do to get online was go on the next day and it was fine so I bet just turning off ur PS3 and going back on would work too. Try signing on and off first by hitting the PS button while ur in the demo (hit triangle on account management) if that doesn't work too.		2011-02-07 23:23:00

Yeah I actually picked up my copy last Thursday, played through a good portion of the campaign. There is a lot of great variety (Jet packs, Exo suits, vehicle missions) and the visuals are gorgeous. I promised myself I would not touch online until I can get this first LBP2 level out there lol (history repeating itself with games like Marvel vs Capcom 3, KZ3 and Mass Effect 2 being pushed to the side of my shelf collecting dust to make way for the all consuming monster that is LBP...) 2011-02-24 11:37:00

I bought Killzone 2 when it came out, and although I enjoyed it, it didn't have a ton of lasting appeal. I haven't touched it for a very long time. For that reason, I've decided against getting Killzone 3. I might rent it at some point though, if only to play through the campaign mode.

I felt the same for Killzone 2. Killzone 3, however, is another story (not campaign I mean). I love the crap out of it, mainly because a lot of things have been changed (jetpacks FTW!). Overall, I love K3 better than K2.

That's because everybody sjucks online right now! Just wait until the good players go online, then it'll get fun.

(I can't guaranteeing this will work, nor if this is your style. I get bored if it's too easy, so I try looking for high level matches on CoD games and other online games. Black Ops only has me playing because a) Wager Matches and b) Zombies!).		2011-02-24 23:36:00

Don't bother. They said the Move on Killzone 3 wasn't accurate. You're better off leaving the setting on default and try to figure out how the Move is calibrated (AKA where it's shooting) on your own.		2011-02-25 00:02:00

I just got KZ3 and am loving it, although I don't really know much about Dragon Age 2 I played the demo and found it to be pretty boring.

The demo served only to show what has changed. It's hard to really show off an RPG without giving you too much of it. I loved Dragon Age: Origins and I've been waiting for 2 for ages. Then again, I've been waiting for KZ3 for ages as well :/		2011-02-25 02:55:00

Am I the only one that found that Pandora/Ocean floor/Bug land/Forest place AMAZING!?! It looks beautiful and it's really cool to look at all the different plants and stuff.

I've done very little of the single player, but I played a few matches in botzone to get used to the gameplay (didn't play much of 2) and then went into Multiplayer. It's nice to have a class based game again. It's not exactly TF2, but it's a start. I'm using either a Field medic or marksman (is that the class name?) and it's great fun. I'm a fan of operations or whatever the mode is, where you get the cutscenes. That's pretty **** cool.

The game is impressive.
There's so much in the screen that my eyes hurt, and I'm not joking.
And the gameplay really gives tension.
I'm not a big fan of FPS, though I played almost all of them this gen (Singularity, Bioshocks, CODs, Battlefield, Borderland, Bulletstorm, Resistances), but this is the one that pumps adrenaline more than the others.		2011-03-03 13:53:00

Just got the game, gives me a big a-- headache I agree with omegaslayer, theres a whole bunch happening in the all the scenes background its crazy.
Havent played it much but I liked the Story and the music is pretty Amazing too, Id Never expect Music to be a Good in a First Person Shooter, but the here its beautiful (Like the Violin one).

Yeah I finished the campaign earlier this week, Star Wars is a good way of describing the last mission lol. I think what I loved most about the campaign (besides the blistering visuals) was the sheer gameplay variety. You are constantly presented with unique missions but none of them feel forced and all of them fit the story. Got to love that Exo suit

I also finally went online and had a ton of fun. After the small, claustrophobic maps of BlackOps (which I also enjoyed) it's nice to have massive battlefields and class-based combat. Right now I am mainly using the Engineer (fully upgraded turret=murder machine) but all the classes feel great to play and it's nice to switch depending on the given objective. I watched someone else play it on YouTube and I'm happy I didn't pick it up. While I've played the Killzone series since it first came out the games have never had much replay value. I might rent 3 or pick it up used in a few months if it's cheap.

The boss battle with the MAWLR did look cool, though.

I was going to create a thread for this, but I finally got around to using the search button and found this.

So yeah! This game is amazing. That was the only "Beta" (Other than the LBP2 beta:kzI played for over a 2 hour period! One of the things I hated about the COD series is that the screen doesnt move/barely moves during gunshots, aiming down your sight, or reloading. However, Killzone 3 covers this perfectly.

Does anyone have an opinon about the PS move support? Im going to pick this up for my birthday this weekend and Im wondering if the move package is worth the buy.
And apperantly the new batch of copies come with a SOCOM 4 Beta code Im also looking forward to.
