Penguin Turf War [DEMO] [LBP2 Advert Level]
Archive: 9 posts
Skirmish in the South Pole to secure supremacy of the snowy slopes!! With Snowballs. And Penguins. And an Eskimo. You WANT! http://i600.photobucket.com/albums/tt82/rtm223/Penguin%20Turf%20War/APhoto_3.jpg I've already got a project thread on this, but decided I'd post the demo in the showcase to see if I can get a little more feedback as I really need to know how the game plays. I'm not using F4F on this one, as in just over a week I'm moving abroad, so making commitments of my time is a little bit foolish right now, but if you give me some decent detailed feedback it won't be forgotten and I'll be sure to return the favour in a month or so (or when you have something published) http://i600.photobucket.com/albums/tt82/rtm223/Penguin%20Turf%20War/APhoto_1.jpg http://lbp.me/v/wqt8d8 | 2011-01-21 21:45:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
Well I queued it but you'll have to wait until Tuesday when I finally get the game. Peace! | 2011-01-21 22:01:00 Author: blizzard_cool Posts: 752 |
Seems nice, queued but may i ask: http://gyazo.com/dfb2909b244b585ad881abe02e5b32b9.png What does this mean? | 2011-01-22 00:00:00 Author: Gui_Rike Posts: 184 |
Seems nice, queued but may i ask: http://gyazo.com/dfb2909b244b585ad881abe02e5b32b9.png What does this mean? It means it is a Vs level. Each player (Online only) gets their own screen. On topic. Queued. I need to show my friend without a PS3, he's a penguin fanatic | 2011-01-22 00:03:00 Author: Jedi_1993 Posts: 1518 |
Looks cool, you still didn't get the prompts fixed? You could always use custom holo prompts. Anyway, im going to check it out. | 2011-01-22 01:17:00 Author: Bremnen Posts: 1800 |
Looks cool, you still didn't get the prompts fixed? Hacked it for now. I don't actually need the context switches yet and it was more important to have a bit of a cue on screen (for stuff like double jumping and that you have aim and fire controls). Combos aren't working in the current uploaded version btw - I have it fixed at my end, but it requires a good amount of copy / pasting and tweaking of tag colours to get it working for all 4 players Will have to wait for a couple of days before I'll have time It means it is a Vs level. More specifically, it's a deathmatch level, so without opponents all you can do is throw snowballs at the walls and collect power-ups... Which is less fun (trust me, it's what most of my testing involves...) edit: actually, if you wanna try it 1 player you can still get a feel for the control mechanics.. I'm a bit iffy on the jumping atm, so extra opinions on that would be good. | 2011-01-22 02:34:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
it was pretty awesome. different than i expected, and it was nice to see an epic snowball & vs level to preempt the impending flood of mindless grabbinator + white sponge & default creatinator + bounce pad vs levels. What I liked most was the care you put in to making it behave as it should... natural trajectory, arc, speed & weight.. colliding snowballs... waddling movement & that awesome belly flop that penguins really would do. I did a double take when i noticed it. I really sucked at my match with Yarudark, but I can see the balance & potential for mastery it has. Great job with the fast rebuild too. | 2011-01-25 17:47:00 Author: Unknown User |
Cheers, a lot of the details were things that happened semi by accident, the waddling and the falling over stuff started as accidents that were then tuned up for extra comic value - the main thing I like about the new logic is the refinement that's possible and how quickly you can refine things. I'm hoping I can get the belly flop worked in at some point with some ice slides that you can deliberately use to move around quickly. I tried this in the beta and it didn't quite work, but I may have found something last night that will make it look right. I'm hoping a lot of the negative comments are from people that assume that a cute penguin snowball fight would be very simple to play, but realistically I want to get the depth in there to reward repeat players. Once I have time to add a tutorial I hope some of the depth will shine through more clearly Thanks for playing and for the compliments, if you have any criticisms too then I'd love to hear them! | 2011-01-25 20:02:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
