How to make talking characters drop down lin cutscenes

Archive: 6 posts

Hi guys and gals

Im wondering how its possible to make a character fall/jump down and land on an object resulting in a cutscene where he talks etc.

Similar to what the sherrif does in the mexican levels. I know how to make objects/characters talk etc and how to produce a cutscene but how do i make them fall down when the player moves near?

Thanks

use a proximity switch (looks like a small spider). many ways you could drop the character. have them attached to some dissolve material that the switch destroys. have them on a piston so that they would even shoot back up once the scene is over. but the answer to your question about having an event happen when sackboy comes near to a specific point is a proximity switch.2008-11-09 18:50:00

This is very simple, but may be hard in practice.

Use a motion sensor switch, and connect it to a piston or something connected to your character. When you get close to the sensor switch, the piston will fall and that person will too. Then, the magic mouth on them will react to you being close to it and talk to you.

Not surehow to make it stay there once it's down.

you could have the proximity switch trigger a permanent switch (dissolve block disappears and lands a magnetic key on the magnetic key switch) that triggers the movement of the piston.

Correct me if Im wrong, but I believe if you use the piston to hold the character up, setting a proximity switch to "direction" (you may also need to set it to "inverted" depending on the piston) should cause the piston to extend when the player is near..... thus moving the character into range of the screen..... and yet not have the piston RETRACT until the player moves away.

There are similar effects done with grab switches and winches in the main game, for those things you grab onto and then they pull you up, stuff like that.

It's not at all hard to do, but I dont think the tutorials make it at all obvious that you can do this.
