Urgent expert PC repair help needed

Hey all, Last night my PC locked up and now won't boot up . My digital camera has been randomly freezing lately, and while uploading pictures to my computer the camera froze and the computer froze along with it. Now when I press the power button, it makes noise, some fans come on, but nothing shows up on the screen. EDIT: It does NOT beep now I removed and replaced the motherboard's battery to try to reset the CMOS, but it doesn't work. Now I also notice one of the fans does not turn on. I have ruled out the possibility of the monitor being the problem. Any help is greatly appreciated, I need to fix this as soon as possible. So you don't even boot? When you say it makes "some noise" is there any beeps or just some wacky fan noise that sounds really tired? I have a weird feeling the first thing you might check is your power supply. If you ever go above your systems capacity, wacky stuff will happen. Same if the power supply is just giving up the ghost. ..just a thought.. it could be another issue, but this sounds suspiciously power related from what you describe. | 2011-01-21 17:05:00 Author: jwwphotos Posts: 11383 |
I'm sure it very well could be the PSU It makes a little beep when it starts up, like it always has, and the fans start their whirring. That's the extent of the noise. Nothing comes onscreen, the monitors I've plugged into either say "no signal" or just become blank/black. How can I diagnose the power supply? | 2011-01-21 17:36:00 Author: Foofles Posts: 2278 |
Ummm... good question. I am not an electronics guru, but seem like you have to have a load on it to check them. Maybe take it to a Fry's or somewhere they might be able to see if it is bad or not? Usually when I suspect PSU, I've just replaced it and the system them works again. If I am wrong, then I go to next step. Since you get only one beep though, that usually means it passed Bios. So hopefully it is simply the PSU. Good luck! | 2011-01-21 18:07:00 Author: jwwphotos Posts: 11383 |
