teleportation

Archive: 38 posts

don't know if anyone has ever mentioned this before but i was thinking how great it would be if there was a teleport tool. Where you place a in and an out. So if you step on to a teleport switch you would be teleported somewhere else in the level. This would open up loads of puzzle ideas. It could maybe look like the respawn points where you fly out. Don't think this idea would be hard to implement for mm at all. You could have secret rooms only accessible from teleports. Or like 5 in a row and each would teleport you to a different path along your level giving a replay factor and if you chose the right one it would teleport you to a path with loads of goodies2008-08-07 11:50:00

There probably is teleports, or a way to do it. We will see soon.

Theres always a way! Example: Have one spawn point and have it move to where you want to be teleported (Ive seen spawn points move) You can probably trigger it to move once you pass a certain point.

Granted, there is a flaw.. you have to die to be teleported.. actual teleports would be cool.

I don't think having teleports and being able to shoot them is quite the same...

nope... but you could make switches to make portals appear... or set triggers and stuff. Anything (almost ) is possible with LBP!2008-08-07 16:18:00

You can do practically anything on LBP if you know how lol...Did you read the article where one of the team made a computer which could do basic sums?2008-08-07 16:44:00

I think when they talk about the computer they're referencing this vid of the counting machine. I remember Alex Evens saying someone made a computer that was a counting machine where you drop balls in to count

probably, GT doesn't like me, so I'll try find it on youtube later.

But still, for a game to do that, and the players be able to do that, It's brilliant.

Yeah, how was that machine supposed to work?

I mean, yeah, counting machines WILL be possible, but that one didn't seem to work.

Teleportation is something I would like to see as well... Teleportation without moving the spawnpoint and thus killing a sackboy 2008-12-12 15:43:00

Teleportation FTW

The puzzles would be able to be complex

I could see some killer teleportation, but I'm not sure if it's possible. I'll test it out later to see.2008-12-12 17:50:00

It was ment as a new tool idea
But I suppose you could do stuff to get around it
Just would be a hell of a lot easier just to have an IN and OUT teleporter that was similar to the checkpoints

Woah.... hello old thread :S

Yeah, it's weird. But no one really knows what to do if they want to talk about stuff that's already been mentioned
You get moaned at for starting a new thread with subject matter that has already been talked about before
And you get moaned at for bringing back old threads lol

That is a binary adding machine, I made somthing similar once to track the number of times a certain action occurred, however mine had 8 bits on it.

Yeah, how was that machine supposed to work?

This video will explain how a binary adding machine works.

As for teleportation, its a novel idea, but it will be painful and it will prevent anyone from acing your level. . .

FIXED YOUR VID FOR YOU. You only need to put the code that comes after the = So for this vid it was GcDshWmhF4A

Not if it is a tool that MM bring out as a new tool download
Which is what I originally intended as the idea in the OP

Teleportation would be pretty sweet.

The only way ive seen that has come close to "teleportation" is with respawn points in a level called "Sacrifice."

The concept is pretty cool you have to touch a respawn point, flip a switch so the respawn point goes to another area, and finally sacrifice yourself to respawn from that other area.

I have an idea, and intend to try out out...

Gimme a sec guys, I'll make a beta teleporting tool, using the move through solid objects glitch via pistons... hmmm

When an object moves fast enoguh, it phases right through your sackperson, so if you could attach a level to pistons... BRB!!!!

EDIT:

OK guys! Built a beta test for a teleportr. The level is called: Teleporter Test for LBPC

Or you can just search my name and look udner my levels, lionhart180

Tellme what you think of the idea, think it could work? If we spawned a thin layer of dissolving material in the foreground with a small bit of dark matter, then put sticker on it, we could have a wall appear and dissapear in foreground, giving the illusion of teleporting...

Play Sackboy's Inferno part 2 by sighwhatever... this handles moving checkpoints to act as a teleporter. It should serve as good inspiration for some ideas on using the concept...

That's pretty **** cool... I'm gonna go try it out. I've had it happen on accident a few time and tried to playtest it out of my levels so I always thought of it as a pain - one man's trash is another man's treasure heh

Uh.. isn't that the same glitch which caused the game breaking wheel of death thing as described in this thread https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=4184

I would be very careful if you are deliberately trying to use this glitch. I won't be for sure.

Not quite, it's the same action, but the game breakng only happens when the object you phase through is the ground, specficly in create mode, which causes your respawn to be inside the ground.

An object though, will just cause you to get squished once.

maybe give the impression of teleportation like make a passege under a wall or something that is opened by a switch and then you could say they opened up a portal and for them to jump in.2008-12-22 09:33:00

or you can play it yourself too in lbp search little big calculator. Its very impressive it works with hundreds of magnetic switch.

There is a way to do a convincing teleport. True, you do have to die, but if you make your sackperson walk into a stationary "electric shot" (from MGS levels), it looks like he's been teleported. Then hide your emitted checkpoint in a box with another large "electric shot" stuck on the front and arrange it so your sackperson drops out of the bottom. Looks very convincing. By adding a few more switches you can add all sorts of fancy effects and sounds. You can use the invisible pistons trick to push the old checkpoint into something solid to make it "break" and disappear.
Lets hope MM add this as a permanent feature soon to make things a lot easier.

Well...... if you made square and a hole that lead to the center of it and made something emit plasma balls (from the MGS pack) it would look like a portal and when you got near if you made it so it would emit another starting checkpoint thing and crushed the first one, you would go to the other startingcheckpoint, but if the finish or another plane checkpoint is closer it would go to there....:02009-02-12 14:53:00

This is true. However, just design your level so there are no other checkpoints and you only emit one when one is needed.
