More forum improvements

Archive: 37 posts

A few more things have been done to the forum to try to streamline thread posting and navigation. Primarily, the LBP PSP forums have been modified heavily to more tightly integrate them into the rest of the forum (where that makes sense, anyway), but we've also made a few more general tweaks that should improve your experience. Just a quick summary:

We've merged LBP PSP's News forum with the central News forum, and going forward our goal will be to retain one central news hub for all LBP-related information.
We've expanded LBP PSP's offerings to include a more wide array of forums - don't know why we never had them before, but we do now!
A couple of things have been shifted around. Nothing major, just a bit of tweaking.
Big change: we've color-coded most of the forums with a unique color, and we've tried to make those colors as relevant as possible to the forum itself (e.g. LBP2 and the color green). Thanks for the idea dajdaj03!

If enough people want to revert back to the standard blue headers, I can offer an option that allows you to toggle the unique colors on and off per-user. If you're one of the members that are happy with them, speak up! That way, I can get a feel for what the "like/dislike ratio" is on this.

Thanks!

Yay! It keeps getting better and better!

It's not like I hate the colors. It's just that they're too bright. If the background had been a different color rather than white or, as the sides of the site are, brown, then I would've been happy. Other than that, they really don't mix well, so it's back to blue for me.

Looks good! I just wish I'd looked here the last time you modded the lbp psp forums, I couldn't figure out where the ideas and projects thread went.2011-01-21 00:28:00

Nice work CC!

Great thing to be able to choose between old and new colored version, as it will be hard to please everyone
and so in that matter, here a suggestion from me, lol :

http://images.gamekult.com/blog/imgdb/000/000/544/966_3.jpg

- just those 4 sections in colors... others sections in dark blue (including Beta forum too)
- The bluish green of the LBP for PS3 don't really match for me, I think orange or pink would be better
- and globally I agree that the color are a little too bright or saturated... the colors of the image above are subtly softer for example

That's what I would prefer, but yeah I'm not the boss here tell me what you think

I think I'd like to go back to blue to be honest. It's a good idea - but as mentioned before, the colours seem a little bright and distracting.

Either way, nice work

I really like the new forum additions. As for the color, I don't really mind it at all, but I can understand where others would like the classic blue better.2011-01-21 01:06:00

Thanks CC, and Dajdaj03 it looks so cool! now all we need is a fresh new background to fit the lbp2 theme more,

or maybe different backgrounds for each froum.
and i want my bar that says 1 minute ago to be green XD

Haha, I read the thread where dajdaj posted this idea. The site looks so much more colorful now CC. Thanks!
However I must agree with dajdaj yet AGAIN about the following image:

http://images.gamekult.com/blog/imgdb/000/000/544/966_3.jpg

If you can change them to these colors, but a bit lighter, and then the other sections in standard dark blue, it'd look very much more purty.
:3

Maybe even go farther, and rewriting the names of the sections all together (all that "LittleBigPlanet" text kinda gets confusing) to maybe like:
- Introduction
- Site Stuff
- General Activity
- LBP PS3 (Keep Pink though; representing Mm!)
- LBP2
- LBP
- LBP PSP
- General Stuff

So there's my two cents!

Excellent. Also, making the level categories more noticeable made me noticed that I can minimise sections --- I love it!2011-01-21 01:50:00

Alright, the colors have been softened and darkened a bit. I played around a ton with different values, and they're about as subtle as they can get without looking out-of-place. There's now also a setting in your Edit Options page (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/profile.php?do=editoptions) that you can use to enable or disable them at will. They're enabled by default because I believe they provide some useful functionality (I'll certainly be using them) but for those of you that really want to disable them, you can.

(also, the Edit Options page has been improved slightly - there were some display issues that are now gone)

Enjoy

Thanks for that.

I was going to turn them off because I found them too bright and distracting. Now, though, they look a whole lot better so I might keep them.

I really love the way that all the updates have options now. You might not think about it, but LBPC is such a customizable place.

(Not that I personally dislike the new headers, they're awesome!)

Everything is great, still I don't like the idea of keeping LBP1 and LBP2 levels showcase grouped together.
I find it a bit confusing, and we're still at the beginning.
At least it would be fine if you guys could implement an auto tag [LBP] or [LBP2], like the F4F one.

Finally! I'm actually starting to see the page better (the bright colors kind of made the white text in the header hard to see).

Thanks for the updates CC (and daj for the idea)!

Edit: either this has been fixed or I was being stupid. Either way, nothing to see here, move along now, move along...

we seem to have just lost the ability to customise forum view by collapsing down groups

CC: I'm assuming this is an oversight & I doubt it's a widely used feature (I only found it about 2 weeks ago) but it was kinda useful. Any chance we can get it back?

I find it a bit confusing, and we're still at the beginning.
When you click on a level and go into the thread, look at the level badge. If it's a LBP2 level, it'll have a green tree with a "2" beside it. However, it would be nice to know before we go into the level thread if it was LBP2 or 1. Maybe along with the prefix "F4F" option, we could have another for "LBP1" or "LBP2"? It would also be nice to group them (only LBP1 levels and/or only LBP2 levels) with a search function.

I also like the colors Thanks CC for continuing to evolve this site!

^lol well thanks...

Anyway, I think it's good like it is now! (Still don't like that bluish green, but that's a not a big problem....)

Now when I scroll up/down, I can quickly see where I am, and which section I wanna go to, and that was the purpose of all this!

Thanks very much CC!

I'm outspoken... I know.

(I spoke-out on the over-abundance of Hot Pink when we updated our V Bulletin skin last)

...Not looking to be a dissenter, so I for one would just like to say thanks for the option to cancel-out the eye-splitting orgy of dissenting colour combinations. ALL HAIL... PERSONALIZATION!:hrmf:

I'd also like to thank Dadj-

It sincerely was a beautiful design artistically conceptualized... the aesthetics just seemed to escape the implementation.

I'm having some problems, not with the new colors, but with the website in general. For example, at the top of the screen, it says this--

Warning: array_merge() [function.array-merge (http://www.lbpcentral.com/function.array-merge)]: Argument #1 is not an array in [path]/includes/class_bootstrap.php(1280) : eval()'d code on line 63

Warning: fetch_template() calls should be replaced by the vB_Template class. Template name: spoiler_connector in [path]/includes/functions.php on line 3984

--and it isn't letting me view threads sometimes. Also, the Post Quick Reply and Go Advanced buttons are in front of the text box I'm typing this in, not below it, so some of the text is blocked. When editing, all of the buttons and everything are out of place.

EDIT: However, on the main forum page, this doesn't happen.
