Movie Camera Transitions won't work

Archive: 8 posts

Alright so I'm trying to make a short 25 second clip for my film class (they need 25 sec animation for a music video) And i'm having alot of trouble with the transitions in the game. I'm trying to have one camera close to an object, and the next camera do a paning transition to zoom out from the object. (After that the object will light on fire but I think I can figure that part out) When I test the scene, The camera dosn't pan, but instead cuts to the next camera.

I tried fade as well but instead of fading, the camera cuts to scene 2, fades to black, Then stays on the same scene.

Could somebody help? I need to get this clip finished and fast.

Are the cameras connected to each other like in a chain? If so, they should start at the first and cycle through depending on the hold time you set.

Maybe if you describe what you have done and what the results are so far?

They're linked. I set it so when you start the level the film imediately starts. The first camera is set to fade so that it will fade into the begining of the film. Afterwards I set the next camera to pan (does it matter its soft or hard pan?). That way the camera will zoom out from the object slowly. But when I did that, The camera just used the cut transition instead of pan. I don't know why its doing this because it worked fine in the tutorial level.2011-01-20 21:47:00

Soft moves slower, but either hard pan or soft pan will work. Also check that all cameras aren't the same view or something wacky. lol

Did you set the level to cuts cene mode? If not and like in coop mode, you have to trigger the first camera from the entry. Like a player sensor or a grab if you would need to have a bit of control if you are recording.

Its already set to cutscene mode. The first camera is zoomed in. The second camera is zoomed out. First camera is set to fade so it fades from black when somebody first watches it. The second camera is set to Soft pan and is zoomed away from the object.

I tried changing it to fade but the camera just cuts to the zoomed out scene, Fades to black, Then fades out in the same angle. Shouldn't it fade from camera 1 to camera 2? Maybe that's what its doing with the panning transition. Does the keyframe option have anything to do with this? because I haven't figured that thing out yet.

Using a sequencer is a much better way of controlling movie camera transitions, imho. It works very much like a standard software base movie editor. Increase the length of your camera gadget, then place another movie camera below the first with an overlap. the amount of overlap determines how long the transition will take. Normally a sequencer is set up so each colored stripe is 1 second, so overlapping one stripe is a 1 second transition, a 2 stripe overlap is a 2 second transition. If you use Hard Pan instead of Soft Pan the engine does a wonderful job of dealing with camera tilt, pan, zoom transitions.2011-01-20 22:01:00

The keyframe is like adding shots to the same camera. So you could actually do pretty much what you want with one camera.

From what you describe it sounds as if your next camera is not firing for some weird reason. Hopefully someone else has an idea...

well I just reset the level and the cameras began working again. I have no clue what I did wrong but hopefully I'll figure it out next time it happens. Also I'll give that sequencer thing a shot. Thanks.2011-01-20 22:20:00
