Into The Heart Of The Negativitron: HARDER THAN IT SHOULD BE!

Archive: 34 posts

There are so many things wrong with this level. For the first part, the camera is horrible with more than one player. For the second, the grappling hook doesn't always work, and most of the time just gets you killed. For the third part, its nice and straight forward until he fires his lasers at such a fast rate which makes them near impossible to dodge. I don't even know if there is more after that! My sister and me have been doing this level for over half an hour, and we're about to pull our hair out.

UPDATE: YES! I beat it! My gosh..

You can skip cut-scenes, by pressing start, then go to "skip".
I agree it's pretty tough to ace, especially once you reach the 2nd part of the end boss. The little cut scene leaves you to die on the electric floor when you land.

Little secret here, don't dodge the lazers just stand in one place and jump when they go near you.2011-01-20 00:18:00

Stupid good for nothing cakes don't do anything.
I just threw my partner and he popped both brains at once.

The cakes do do something, but its quite hard to aim them :/

Honestly, I found it terribly easy. I completed it on my first go and aced it after a few stupid mistakes.2011-01-20 04:51:00

I beat it on launch day, but that level goes from easy, to medium, to frustration. I know to jump, at the "lasers", but that cake part kills it for me. I miss the left side a lot, but the right side is a piece of cake to hit. LOL2011-01-20 16:19:00

I never died with the cake part (I try to dodge but always jump too just in case, figuring one method is bound to work) but it took about 3 cycles to hit it. The trick is to be up against the wall when you throw - when I did that, I hit every time.

The hamster part was annoying until I figured out the trick (wait around above after scoring for a bit, then rush by as soon as he finishes firing).

The jumping part is what I have trouble with. It wouldn't be so bad if the stupid NPCs would at least kind of try to maybe keep the platform more or less near me so if I'm too far for a grapple I'm not completely doomed.

As with all the MM bosses this one becomes pretty easy once you get past the flashing lights/moving parts confusion and get the rhythm. I died quite a bit on the second and third bosses mostly because I was trying to much to actively DO something rather than just wait around a while for the right time.

The second phase is basically just jumping around on the moving platform on the ground and occasionally using the grapple hook to move slightly so that you'll land on the platform when it moves too fast. Wait until the bumble-bee flies in then always grab the platform just behind the missile, wait for the missile to hit and then swing and pop the brain.

On phase three you can always stand on the left or right side of the room near the wall and just jump when the lasers come your way. I didn't realize until reading this thread that the intended use of the cupcakes was to throw them at the brains. Throwing seems straight-forward enough to do I suppose, if a bit tricky, but for me I'd just bump the cupcake a little closer to the negativitron and then use it as a step to jump up and onto the brain.

This is easy enough to do consistently until things speed up for the last time then I'd just push the first cupcake from the left side to the right after the boss drops for the first time and use it as a step to jump on the boss and pop the brain.

I simply cannot pass the third part. What on earth do you do?? I have grabinators and there are almost impossible to dodge lasers (you jump???) but there's nothing to GRAB or THROW to get those brains at the top. I keep failing just because of this stupid part. I don't get any "cupcakes"...

EDIT: Turns out if you survive, there are cupcakes. Of course... ._.

I had to do this a number of times to ace it, but it's not that hard in the end. The first stage is a cinch. The second stage can be a pain, but I found that this part was so much easier if I made an effort to keep on top of the platforms, using the bounce pads to go from one to the next. You can pretty much stay above 90% of the time. Try to keep an eye on the dudes below you. If you fall, try to aim for their platform, just in case you bung up the grappling hook. Always watch for the bee that fires the missile at the Negativitron. When it fires, the platform in the middle will come to a halt at the far left right next to the boss. Just keep bouncing on this pad and hop directly on his head when he's stunned.

The third stage is easy if you know what to do. Jumping the oncoming lasers works for the first three cycles, but if you just jump on the fourth cycle, your timing will be off and you'll die. The pattern is pretty easy to memorize, though, so pay attention during the first three cycles. There are four patterns that he goes through in each cycle. After each one, stand in the very corner, opposite to where he bites into the floor, and throw the pie off the top of your jump.

1. A series of lasers that are one "block" wide that fire from right to left, then left to right, then right to left, and left to right once more. To put it another way, they cycle back and fourth twice, beginning from the right hand side. To dodge them, keep running toward the lasers and make sure you jump over the spot where they're going to be.

2. Now he begins to fire two at once, the two lasers hitting the edges of the arena and gradually closing toward the centre. Don't go hopping around the place. You can simply stand in the centre (check out the pattern of the tiles to get a handle on where to position yourself), wait until he fires down the middle, and jump then. He does this pattern twice.

3. This is the tricky one. Now he fires two shots that are two "blocks" wide that are side by each, with a space in the middle, kinda like this: //_. This is the one you'll die on if you try to jump it on the fourth and fastest cycle. I discovered that it is super easy simply to walk over and stand between the lasers. He always fires to the right first, so you just have to sidle over after the previous pattern, wait till the lasers strike, then run over to the opposite side. The distance is not very large, and is easy to traverse even on the fastest cycle. Once again, don't jump. You lose too much control. Just run right, then left. If I recall, he only does this twice.

4. Now he fires a series of shots that cover the entire arena. Here you obviously have to jump. I think he does this three times, but maybe four. Next he chomps into the floor, always the opposite side from where he did the previous time.

Good luck

Heh. Yeah, I cursed them several times during my ace attempts.

I am at the final section of the final level. Larry and Victoria are NOT giving me any cakes! What am I missing? Where do you get the cakes to throw? How do you throw them with no Grabinator?

i wish i could already have that game, and could speak my awsome way to beat it without losing any levels, but well, due to some "financial problems" i STILL dont have it...

/off topic (kind off)
but fortunately for you guys i found this video roaming around youtube, and i think it makes things pretty clear on how to ace that level

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fqSB-BtECsg

(i dont know, but it seemed pretty easy to ace it, it is all about jumping at the right time and at the right place...)

I finished it yesterday! Woooo Hoooooooooooooooo! My son (7) is not happy with me. Neener neener, I say to him! LOL

Thanks for the laser tip! Surviving is pretty darn easy once you know that; then you have to figure out exactly how to throw those stupid cakes to actually hit the brains! Arg!

I actually struggled with this level as well. But found out it's easier than you think. I will give my input anyways even though people in here have already explained their own strategies cause this worked for me a treat.
The first part is easy so I won't go on about that. The 2nd part I found that if you try to limit the amount of swinging and rely more on using the floating jump pads you seem to be able to survive alot more. Also will add that, if the time occurs that you missed the jump pad and your too close to the Negativatron, it's always a good idea to straight head right because most of the time you'll have something to grab a hold of. I tend not to rely on your buddies down below, because for me, they are never there when you need them most.

Now for the 3rd part I found that when he's shooting his lasers just stand to the very side of the platform and just jump the lasers as they hit the ground. Believe me it's the easiest way to do it, no running no moving just concentrating on the jumps. When I did it I stood on the right hand side because the cake I think will be on that side first. Then once he's done the bite quickly race across to the other side as close as you can to the edge and stay still repeating the jumping of the lasers. Believe once you do it for your self the level is easier than you think!

Glitches/bug/poor design ive noticed so far in this level.

At hamster-rolling (stage 1):
Hit first brain with Hamster, 2nd brain never ever appeared on me.
After finishing off boss stage 1, he just keeps attacking.

Stage 2:
Not a lot of problems here, though hitting brain just before head is back in gas can result in a weird spastic-ish movement.
After killing off this boss, I ended up being squashed by the smallshipmathingy that avalon and cliff control.

Stage 3:
After hitting boss for first time (right side) , it randomly keeps attacking and no brain-bubble shows untill boss repeats this twice.
Bouncepads on floor stay active, this makes the boss epic unplayable, but with some luck you can now jump onto the brain without throwing cake.

think thats all.
anybody else had these problems?

I didn't experience any significant bugs/glitches in any story level. The camel's head did brake off the first time I played that level in one of the elevators; didn't affect my being able to finish...actually made it better because it was funny.2011-01-25 20:22:00

The camel was only headless for the ride down the elevator (the head vaporized from hitting the side of the elevator)...and I could still shoot (what does the head have to do with shooting anyway?). Once it stepped out of the elevator it spawned a new head on the opposite end...a pity...I thought I'd traded the camel for Big Dog. 2011-01-25 21:22:00

Anyone having trouble with the cupcakes:

1. Pick up cupcake
2. Turn around in the SAME SPOT
3. Jump straight up
4. Let go of cupcake

You'll nail it pretty much every time.

I actually aced this on my third try after reading this thread

Basically, what everyone has said is true. It's better to be passive than active.

Camels are chronic spitters. Hate to ruin it for people who thought they had a super awesome laser shooting camel, but that's saliva.
