Map Design
Archive: 2 posts
I have played some EPIC Dead Space, Bioshock, and other various maps back in LBP1 and it always amazes me how someone can create something so visually appealing. I have spent countless hours practicing and trying to top what they created but no matter what I am INCAPABLE of coming anywhere near to the amount of effort that is put into theirs. What I'm wondering is where does one start in making such realistic and fantastic eyecandy levels? I'm trying to create an underwater laboratory map and every attempt is the exact same no matter how many times I retry. I always create this big boxed room and start filling it with the same material and it just...doesn't feel right. I've played a million maps and I can't seem to figure how people make such spectacular masterpieces within the game. Is there any tutorials that are comprehensively detailed on level design alone? | 2011-01-19 04:34:00 Author: Azmodan45 Posts: 11 |
It's pretty tough to create the exact image of a level in the game that you have in your head. There's a tutorial here on LBPC on how to create an atmoshpere:: https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=18344-Tutorial-3.3-Developing-an-Atmosphere which is a good start. Then try looking at pictures from other games or from little big planet (An underwater lab:: http://www.isotx.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2007/11/bioshock_location.jpg) Do your best to re-create something like that. I never start with a box room anyway and I don't think it's a very good idea because your limited to a space from the get-go. just start with a flat surface and build upwards. Lighting also makes a huge difference!! Here's another tutorial on how to make the set more dynamic with moving platforms etc.:: https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=18340-Tutorial-2.2-Constructing-a-Dynamic-Setpiece If your still stuck you could also try and recreate an exact setpiece from someone else's level to get a feel for how they did it | 2011-01-19 16:34:00 Author: Dangerlove Posts: 88 |
