Yellow Light of Death > Me

Archive: 20 posts

Hey, I have a question I hope some people could help me out with.

I used to own the 60GB PS3 and during that time I beat/aced everything in LBP. It took me hours and hours to do this and than I got the Yellow Light of Death. GOODBYE gamesave. I got a new PS3 not much longer after from Sony under my insurance plan and well like I had prepared for, my gamesave was not there.

I looked into the whole Gamesave > Flash Drive > PS3 thing but I am just not that good with technology to be honest and I ended up downloading dozens of files on my PC that have not put LBP1 back into my ps3 where it belongs. I just bought LBP2 and i hear that the costumes carry over which upsets me even more and that is why I had to start this thread. If im busy rebeating LBP2 i wont have time for LBP1.

Any suggestions guys/ladies!?!?!?!

Anyone with a working suggestion gets a working 7-11 code paid in full by me!!!!!!!!!!

Well... Im not sure you can get your save back. But you can get one online to get the costumes... the only thing is you wont get any trophies. Thats the best you can do I guess (or just go through the story again)2011-01-19 05:16:00

I had yellow light once. Now I have slim, I have had it over a year and no yellow lights anymore! So if you want yellow light 100% out of possibilities buy a slim. It's simply because Sony said that PS3 Slim's lights are not set to flash yellow. But why is this on everything else from LBP when it obviously should be in Help! section.2011-01-19 08:12:00

If Sony is in possession of your PS3 then the best thing you can do is badger them to e-mail you your save. If you for some reason still have the old PS3, then the issue is most likely not related to the hard drive. Unfortunately once you swap the hard drive with another system, the PS3 will proceed to format it, and you will lose your save anyway. In this situation there could be a solution involving hacking the system, but I won't discuss such things here (and I doubt it would work anyway).

Really your best bet would be to go to www.gamefaqs.com, search for LittleBigPlanet, click the saves tab, and download a complete save file. Create a new folder, "PS3", on the root of your flash drive. Then create another new folder, "SAVEDATA", in the PS3 folder. You'll see a "BCUS98148" folder in the downloaded file, simply copy that entire folder to the SAVEDATA folder on your flash drive, then use the save data utility to copy it to your save data folder on your PS3. LittleBigPlanet will load the save, but trophies will be disabled. And I'm not 100% sure LBP2 would even import it, since for me the beta rejected the save, since I copied it from a previous PS3 I was using.

The only way to have your savegame on the new system AND keep getting trophies, etc. is to have both systems together and to connect them by ethernet cable. Then on the new one go to game data utility and do the transfer.
As for how to on the ylod'd one, you have to have it 'fixed' by someone, which will only fix it for long enough for you to do the transfer via the above method, but still.
If you can't get your old PS3 back, too bad. There's nothing you can do.

Well im not rlly a big trophy guy, i just want my costumes back!

crash dance thank u a ton , but I have tried this over and over and for some reason when I plug the flash drive into the ps3 , it says there is no data in it, yet there is when i plug it into the pc.

I am gong to keep trying this method but do you think ill get all my 100% aced customs on LBP2? if not this isnt even worth my time

The only way to get back your gamesave from the YLOD'd PS3 is by repairing it. Depending on how much you're willing to shell out to make this happen, you options are to either fix it yourself (http://www.yellowlight.co.uk/fix.php) (which costs maybe $50 for tools and a few hours of your time), or send it to a third party for repair (probably around $100).

If you had to return your YLOD'd PS3 in order to get the replacement, then the HDD will have been wiped, and there's no way to get it back.

I'm just this second done working on my 60GB launch model funnily enough. (Taken me 5 hours! )

Gilksy's method works a treat! The hardest part was getting a loan of a heatgun. Totally recommend giving it a go.

sony gave me a new ps3 long ago and i had to mail in the old 1. I didnt find out about gilsky's method until wayyyy after.. Now im left with game saves, but the only reason ide be interested in doing it is if it gives you all the costumes the person has unlocked in their save to LBP2, anyone know?2011-01-19 23:28:00

Yeah. Took me ages too. Hardest part was keeping track of the unnecessarily large number of screws, so I got them all back in the right place.

The type used to strip wallpaper work fine. I picked one up at Wickes for about 20 quid. Totally worth it.

If your saves are on your PC, you should maybe try reformatting your flash drive (FAT32). My new PS3 Slim wouldn't read any of mine when I first got it.

Just make sure that when you go to move your saves across to the memory stick, they go into the following directory:

PS3SAVE DATA

I don't know how to get the info back, but for those who have an older model like myself ( 80 gig backwards comp. w/ SD card slot bought in 08&apos I've done some homework on this stuff and it seems that it's almost always the thermal paste on the heat sinks. My suggestion is an ounce of prevention and maybe reapply new thermal paste if it's cracked and dried up.2011-01-20 02:04:00

When I fixed mine I ended up with about half a dozen screws left over. Didn't matter in the brief time I needed it running, don't know if it had a negative effect in the long run.

Lol, I was really organised (Scared), laid them all onto a bit of A4 and wrote down what went where. Then proceeded to knock it and my screw piles off the coffee table. I loved it when that happened! :hero:

I re-applied heat paste to the Hollywood graphics chip of my Wii, but unfortunately it had suffered permanent damage at that point. Now, although it's running with good paste, I still see artifacts when certain colors are displayed on-screen.

But back on topic, I really have nothing to tell you about LBP2 at the moment, as it seems my pre-order still hasn't shipped...

Make sure you put your new PS3 in a well-ventilated area. My friend got the yellow light of death too. He put his PS3 on top of his cable box and the cable box emitted too much heat for the PS3 to handle. :L2011-02-03 01:01:00

I plan on getting a new Slim and using my old PS3 as a trade in. I was under the impression that if you backup your profile via external hardrive or flashdrive that this would be sufficiant means of getting all trophies, levels, customs, progress, etc back onto a new PS3. Is this not true?2011-02-03 20:12:00
