LBP1 Levels a bit ugly in LBP2

Archive: 13 posts

I have to admit, I am a bit disappointed so far with the way my LBP1 levels look in LBP2.

Most of my levels are darkly lit with tons of LEDs, spotlights, etc. Now, all my levels are darkly lit messes. I really can't imagine how much time it will take to re-adjust all the lighting (really, some levels have countless LEDs that have all been shrunk to tiny sizes - just locating them would be a time consuming task).

Gas now obstructs views, glass looks way different causes certain effects to look quite ugly.

And, one of my biggest complaints - I used the MGS spotlights to cause shadows - and it seems that effect is simply gone, rendering whole parts of my level looking empty.

I really wish there was an option to leave our levels to be "viewed as intended".

So, is there an option for that - or am I stuck with the fact that I'll have to spend countless hours fixing the lighting in all of my levels.

Anyway - I think that will most likely be my biggest complaint. I haven't played much yet - but even the intro made me smile, so, I expect LBP2 to be a great time.

At Beta this issue was recurrent. And yeah we have to recreate our beloved levels in LBP2 to bring the old look. Maybe this is good. Because we can add new details and prettier levels2011-01-19 03:16:00

A serious point of contention for many of us in the beta. I'm in exactly the same boat as you... and have simply been dreading the day this game came out knowing full well how much tweaking I have to do to correct things. To be honest, you'll likely find (as I did months ago), that much of your work simply can NOT be duplicated with the new lighting. One example is the use of shadows from certain lights as you've mentioned. It's a real pain because I had some wonderful looking effects going on, and I have found no way to re-create them at all.

On the plus side, once you begin to muck around with the new tools, lighting, meterials, etc., these issues will begin to become less aggrivating in time. Yes, it will still tick you off when you think of it... but your new creations and possibilities will make these major nuisances more tolerable.

There are other small things you will find annoying here and there, but overall... the game is a massive improvement over LBP. Have faith.

Agreed, I don't know if it's my television causing this, but the LBP levels seem a bit... I don't know, disrupted?
They don't seem as clear as the LBP2 levels, at least not yet.

my question is, if we do all this adjusting {on LBP2} to make a favorite little levels back to what they used to , does this negetively effect what it looks like on the original LBP....like some type of tug- a- war......honestly, i just went ahead and locked mine til some more info about this comes around.2011-01-19 11:43:00

Yeah... they should trounce the whole backwards compatable thing... but it's oh so important for them to say... "There's 3 million crappy levels out there for you to play when you buy LBP2, and another million levels that are good... but just look crappy!"2011-01-19 13:40:00

Mm posted a few tips on where backwards compatibilty problems are most likely to crop up: https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=44101-LittleBigPlanet-Backwards-Compatibility2011-01-19 13:45:00

Gee, I feel guilty. I've only played two of my levels...but they look great.

By the way, Check out Badu Island and Tale of the Storm Stones if you would like an example.

It probably depends on the lighting. Almost all of my level are dark - and now, you can barely see. Some items there were lit a specific way are just dark. Other areas that used the "horrible gas", now have the effect completely ruined.

Obviously, they took away the 3D - so, all those levels who used that for their design (MANY, MANY Levels) - will all now look completely off. Although, to be fair to MM, this was a glitch used - however, would have been nice if they had kept it - and, incorporated it into their tool set (as many had asked/hoped for).

At this point - some of my levels simply will have to be listed for LBP1 only because they do not transfer properly - others will have to be touched up, extensively. I wouldn't mind so much - but one of my biggest levels that is ruined completely is the second part of a series. It's depressing and exhausting to even consider having to remake that one from scratch since all the effects were destroyed. I was hoping to start the 3rd one - not redo the second one which took me 5 months to make.

*sigh*

If you modify an LBP1 level in LBP2, and republish it, it will no longer be compatible with LBP1.

..as well as using up a precious LBP2 slot. I think for now I am not looking back and pop in LBP1 to play any of my old ones or others LBP1 levels.

My levels use the defult settings with little lights (yes I'm unoriginal like that, I prefer gameplay ), how would they look? It seems like it's only really lights that are the problem from what I'm getting.2011-01-19 21:35:00
