Import questions

Archive: 11 posts

I have checked other import threads here and didn't find help related to my questions. So I'm creating thread.

I had planned on waiting a month or so after getting LBP2 before importing LBP1 stuff because I wanted to play and get used to LBP2 without the clutter and influence of LBP1 stuff as though I were playing LBP2 entirely on its own, but a friend in beta told me when he tried importing LBP1 stuff after playing story, it reset everything as though he hadn't played LBP2 yet and he had to do story over and get prizes again.

Does anyone know if this is the case with retail version? It bothers me you can't import stuff from LBP1 later. That makes no sense to me why you would have to do it right from start. All I want later is to import LBP1 materials, objects, stickers, accessories, tools, etc and maybe some backed up levels.

Also, does importing LBP1 profile simply copy it? I ask because I still plan to have LBP1 sessions and still want all my stuff to be in LBP1. And those are my 2 profile importing questions. Please help.

As far as I can tell, the retail version is virtually identical to the beta - warts n' all.

Basically, there are two different ways to import stuff from LBP1 (well, three if you count importing levels, but that won't unlock the stuff in your popit)...

Using the "Import Goodies Collected in LittleBigPlanet" option.
Using the "import Profile" option.

Option #1 will import stuff from your LBP1 profile in Game Data without deleting any of your LBP2 progress, and in theory you can do it again to import new stuff which you create subsequently in LBP1.

Option #2 will import any pre-Leerdammer LBP1 profile, post-Leerdammer LBP1 profile backup, or LBP2 profile backup, but will effectively reset your LBP2 progress to what it was when the profile was created.

However, I can imagine the internal implementation of option #1 being non-trivial, as it has to merge changes into your current profile, so I personally won't have much faith that it'll work correctly all the time.

The safest option, IMO, is, before making any progress in LBP2, create a profile backup from LBP1, and import that backup via option #2.

Surely that'll mean Hana won't start with a blank slate like they wanted?

She could do a profile backup of her LBP1 profile as it is now.

Then clean out everything she doesn't want brought over and do a second backup on a different file.

Re-import the original LBP1 profile into LBP1 so it's like it was before it was cleaned out.

Then import the cleaned out backup LBP1 profile into LBP2.

Blank slate and safer option achieved.

I did the option 2 on mine last night after playing the intro then after I imported I had to play the intro again. I haven't had any issues so far though.

No, but it's less risky than trying to import it later, and then finding it doesn't work. She'll have to choose between...

Having a clean slate now, and risk possible import fail later.
Not having clean slate now, but be guaranteed having everything from LBP1.

Kinda like Morgana was saying its more easy to just import everything from the start.
then delete everything she don't want. best to back-up all levels to the HDD before doing that thought,
so she can add any back later if she wants them. *mew

I think by "blank slate" Hana meant all the materials, stickers, etc, from LBP1. It's a lot of stuff to go through when you just want to find the new LBP2 goodies.

What kind of things go missing when you import your profile normally so you don't lose any progress? Personally I'm not fussed if I lose any saved objects or whatever because I can just publish them in LBP1 to download.

If you want to seperate LBP2 from LBP1 you can choose to sort by Newest in your pop-it2011-01-21 03:16:00

My delima is similar but I'm still confused about how I should go about this. You see, I plan on getting the game tomorrow. I haven't made any levels on LBP1 or my moon, but i still want to transfer my collected/made stuff. I want to do this before I start playing LBP2. I also want to avoid game freezing and to do that, I read that you have to upload your stuff manually after the intro movie. So, which option is best for me and how do I load it where i wont get the game freeze bug?2011-01-21 03:22:00

Well, during the beta (and in retail), there were reports of fundamental tools being missing, like Fire/Electricity tool, and sometimes the only way to get them back was to delete your profile, so you probably wanna check everything's there after import, before you put too much effort into the game unless you have to start over.

Yeah, it's a mess, but it was rushed to meet a deadline.

Or "Sort by Theme" works quite well too.

That's bad.

Well, I guess as you could back up your LBP2 profile before trying to merge your profiles it would be easy enough to repair the damage if that happened.

It shouldn't have to be this complicated really.
