Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots

Archive: 2 posts

I want to make a pair of rock 'em sock 'em robots.

The Robot's themselves shouldn't be too hard to make, hitting certain areas causing parts of the robot to fall off, I want to give them multiple moving parts to make them feel like what the toys should have been. I think the easiest way to do this is by attaching impact explosives to the elbows, fists chest, head and legs, and by allowing the bodies to lean forward and backward to change the aiming. However, for two players a fight could still be conducted with out the body movement.

Now for the four player match, simply moving a lever to the left or right will control the bodies height, the tough part is designing a punching control that would be challenging to use and require actual skill to determine the victory. I think the most effective method could be an assortment of grips spread out through some simple platforming. could be five grip switches grabbing any one of them results in the punching motions, the challenge could be that the grip switches can only be used when they pop out of the doors or walls they're built in. This could happen randomly so each player would have to quickly navigate through the switch room trying to get to all the different switches as quickly as possible.

The game would end when one team completely destroys the other teams robot which would trigger a points room or spawn both teams to the finish area.

If anyone has any ideas, or comments, I would appreciate the help. Right now I'm having the most trouble trying to figure out how to get the robots to move in a way that doesn't cause them to glitch or get stuck.
