Darn you, LBP... Darn you!! <3

Seriously. Never have I wanted a game so bad in such a long time. Not even Brawl (which I was pretty excited over!) comes close to this. The last time was perhaps when I was going to get an N64, or a PlayStation or something... Which was years ago when I was a kid. I'm now 21 and I feel like a child... Nostalgic memories fill my mind. I remember Super Mario World, StarFox 64, Breath of Fire III, Final Fantasy VI and VII, Sonic Adventure...and so much more.

LittleBigPlanet makes me feel like a kid again, and I suspect it's due to the traditional (yet innovative) gameplay.

Ah, let it be something like October 3rd and not October 29th!
Hurry up, Media Molecule! ... But take your time. ;]

This will be the new "old school". In my opinion, we'll look back on this game as our parents do with Mario. It's kinda cool, knowing you get to tell your kids you were lucky enough to grow up with this game.2008-08-07 03:18:00

i agree cartman. i can see this being a ledgendary game of this generation. I wouldn't be suprised if it got 10/10's on the big websites (IGN, Gamespot etc)2008-08-07 03:21:00

I hope it gets 10/10. That will mean 2 PS3 exclusives will have, and no 360 exclusives.2008-08-07 03:47:00

Doesn't that say something, though? Most of the time, when a company knows it is going to pump out an amazing game, it doesn't want to limit it to one console. If they sell on two consoles at once, it will always sell more. The only reason LittleBigPlanet is going exclusive for the PS3 is because Sony probably forked over boatloads of money to Media Molecule to help jump-start their company, with the promise that LBP would be exclusive to their console. A budding company would never turn that kind of a deal down, especially when they don't know how the public is going to respond to their first game. If there's anything I've learned, it's that nothing is sacred when money's involved. Look at Final Fantasy: they were devoted to Sony for years, and now they've gone multi-platform. Final Fantasy's development studio has already 'grown up', and they realized that Final Fantasy will sell more copies overall if they went multi-platform.

Money, money, money. It's so important, it's hard to believe such a wholehearted game like LittleBigPlanet even got past the planning stage. I'm really glad it did, though.

Yeah Square Enix is notorious for following the money, went from Nintendo to playstation and now Microsoft.2008-08-07 04:15:00

Retro gaming is emerging in other titles as well. Stuff like Pixeljunk Eden, Bionic Commando Rearmed and best of all, Mega Man 9 show that as consoles head into the true online age, the old school is back in full force.

In the end, LBP is exactly that - Old School with a twist.

Stop bashing a company that has made moves that make absolute sense. There is not a single listed company that doesn't "follow the money". They're still making the games their fans love, so it's hardly traitorous action.

So no, Square Enix is not notorious of anything. The people bashing the company are notorious for being stupid fanboys. I'm not meaning you specifically, more emphasis on the dolts who really got angry all over when the Xbox FF news got released.

EDIT:
One more point about going after the money. You guys do realize, that console exclusivity is the definite example of the 'money rules' mentality in business. The game developers aren't devoted to a specific console out of loyality or the goodness of their heart. It's because the manufacturer of said console is forking out money or providing other fiscally substantial support. The thing with Square Enix now was that it made more sense to develop for both platforms than to get the support from Sony and remain exclusive. Or perhaps Sony wasn't offering as good support anymore, with it's financial problems? Or maybe Microsoft just offered a better deal if they go multi-platform? Thing is, this sort of thing is going around with every single game dev company in the world.

Nah, MM isn't like that.. they were planning on developing for Playstation 3 from the start because it has alot more options then the 360 (they wanted to see how much they could do with a game and PS3 was by far the better option). They can't port to 360 now anyway because of the size of the disc. Money probably played a small part though... but to say their office is above a bathroom shop... they dont have THAT much..

which will change very quickly once LBP is released

Yeah Square Enix is notorious for following the money, went from Nintendo to playstation and now Microsoft.

1. Squaresoft moved from Nintendo to Sony because they believed in the disc-based medium, which could hold better quality games.

2. They haven't moved to Microsoft, per se, they're on all consoles now.

Also Rare was an exclusive for Nintendo now they are at Microsoft. Not sure if that was over money or if Rare and Nintendo had a disagreement.

Also wanted to add I'm more of simulation game kind of person and the one game or series that I have always got excited about is Rollercoaster Tycoon 1,2,and 3. Even this game has been ruined over money. Atari and the origional developer (Chris Sawyer) have been in court over money owed to him for years now.

RCT is a great example of 3D making things worse. RCT2 was beyond awesome. RCT3, as good as the engine itself was, was too complex and creating incredible parks became more of a job than the fun it was in RCT2.

They could've improved RCT2 with things like co-op multiplayer, additional park types etc. I really admire the effort with RCT3, but it just was a bit too much to be honest.
