Us Brits are still waiting...

In Britain, LittleBigPlanet 2 is not due to be released until friday...
I was convinced it was coming through the mail today, but it didn't. I checked amazon, to find it wasn't due to be released until the 21st.

Any ideas why we are delayed?

I never thought I'd say this, but there have been several threads posted EVERY DAY since the release dates were announced! We have to wait longer because that's how Sony market the games. There's a slightly bigger market for games in the US.2011-01-18 19:08:00

In a way, its a good thing that the game is being released on a Friday, because then we can play it all through the weekend with no work and whatnot distracting us. If you think that way, the wait will become a lot shorter... 2011-01-18 19:15:00

If you ordered from Play.com there's a good chance you'll get it Thursday. Nearly all my pre-orders from Play have come a day early.

I got mine from Game (I ordered the CE) and I doubt I'll get it Thursday. I never get games early from Game 		2011-01-18 19:26:00

Yeah, Games always come out on Fridays here, unless it's a massive AAA release, like Halo.

As I mentioned, Amazon have always had it on release day, except 1 time, when it was one day late because of a postal strike. I'm 99% sure I'll have it before next Monday.

Having said that, I wish I'd done Play.com

but in the netherlands, the actual internet stores (for e-plaza/bart smit/intertoys/nedgames) are in direct access with the physical stores,
mail them, and if you leave a phone no. someone from your local shop will call you.
More than often when a game is released, we get about 6 phonecalls within an hour of eachother.

And then the bidding starts
*oh.. but that shop just called and only asked 60 euro's for the game*

Dont know if someones already said this, as i cba to read the 4 pages of posts, but at least here in the UK the trading law enforces the "street date" system. Meaning no retailer is allowed to sell that game before the scheduled release date, now this has ALWAYS been a Friday since the enforcement of the law in the UK.

This is to stop larger games companies from selling the game cheaply to customers days before smaller retailers can get stock and therefore giving themselves an advantage. This applies not only to games but any form of hard copy media.

Since then, games publishers have gone along with it and just set all their release dates around friday's as its easier for them to ship out to the stores in the week leading up to the friday knowing that no one will be selling it before that friday comes around, Im unaware if its an actual law in the US but it generally is always a tuesday over there. However, there are some companies who are willing to release on a different day over here (COD being the most obvious example) as they've always released on a tuesday even in the UK, however they can do this as they make sure every retailer has stock before the tuesday release therefore conforming to the regulations.

However the one loop hole in the UK is purely the fact that this law does NOT apply to online transactions, as here in the UK we have seperate laws reguarding online transactions, this means that retailers can send out pre-orders online before the friday, however due to the fact they dont often recieve the stock untill the tues/weds before hand they generally get it to you either on the thursday, or the release date itself. Hence why Amazon wont give you a copy till thurs/friday, they dont legally HAVE to... but they do so that they conform to the other stores.

After ages of being let down by pre-orders from several companies, I've came to the conclusion that if you want it guaranteed on release day, just buy it from a store. My postman doesn't bother showing up til dinner time, so I could have just bought it in the morning!

I pre-ordered Fable 3's Collector's Edition from Play.com, since it was sold out at the time I ordered.

Release date comes. Okay, I'm from the Netherlands. It'll take a few days.
A few days pass. I read that, regardless of pre-order or what, it'll take 7 to 10 days. Okay! Disappointed, but fair enough.
A week passes since release date. No package.
THREE WEEKS AFTER THAT. Finally, my Collector's Edition arrives. I was JUST about to write an email to Play to demand a refund.

I've been sitting around doing nothing for six hours today, waiting for the postman to turn up. He never did.

What makes me so annoyed is that almost everyone else who preordered from Game got their copy today. And now becuase of the rubbish postal service, I have to wait until probably tomorrow afternoon. What's the point in preordering if you'd get it sooner if you wait to buy it from the store?? I might just wake up early in the morning and go to a supermarket or somewhere and buy an extra copy to save waiting any longer.

My copy got dispatched this morning. Given I'm up in the northeast of Scotland I'm worried the game might not arrive on release day (And I'm visiting friends on Saturday, so if it arrives then and I'm not there to sign I might even have to wait into next week), but all the same, I'm waiting patiently. Amazon UK are usually good at shipping quickly, so there's all likeliness it'll arrive on time tomorrow. If not, no big deal, I'll just go bowling with friends this weekend, enjoy some other games like Garry's Mod or Just Cause, and do some more planning for my LBP2 ideas!

I don't see this as a delay (Though I am disappointed that we didn't get it first seeing as MediaMolecule -are- a British company XD), I figure a staggered release like this is the best way to avoid too much strain on the LBP servers at any one time. Look at the release day for Halo 3 and Halo Reach, the servers pretty much went down within minutes of players all getting online for a frag-fest. XD (No offense intended towards Halo players, of course - I'm a Halo fan myself, and am part of a gaming clan that primarily plays Halo. XD)		2011-01-20 18:05:00

Lol, I'll be keeping them for my 'compensation'. I'll be picking the game up from Asda this evening. Then sending Play's back to them when it decides to arrive. I'll keep the DLC codes as a bonus, as they never did send me my Halo: Reach pre-order bonus codes anyway!

I've got the dispatched e-mail, and I've got the Ratchet and Clank codes. But no game. Having said that, we haven't had any post, maybe they're late.


My copy came in just now, I'm playing through the starting credits as I type this. Amazon UK, I think I'm in love with you all over again. XD

Also, I doubt I'll pre-order again. Much simpler to go to a shop.

If you're lucky you'll come home to one of those little cards saying they're holding you item hostage at their depot in the middle of nowhere which is only open for 2 hours when all the planets are in allignment.

God Royal Mail suck, especially when you have parents that don't see the importance of it and my impatience, meaning I have to wait longer ?.?

The only way I can figure it is that since Play.com offer free delivery they can't afford to use first class stamps, so it's really as and when Royal Fail decide they feel like delivering the parcel that the workers there actually get off their seats and do anything2011-01-21 18:54:00

Not really, I'm too young to drive, and returning stuff isn't easy (plus, Ive returned stuff before, they don't give you the full amount). And, I'm pretty sure I'll get it tomorrow, I can wait a bit more. Who else has ordered from Amazon, have they got it? I don't think I did. I ordered from game and nothing came through the door today. I have a package waiting at the post office, but as that is "too big for your letterbox" and I'm expecting something else, I think I may have missed out on my delivery too... I'm fairly certain you're wrong, but I'm not a lawyer.

In the UK, although most stores have a policy to give a refund for 'unwanted' items (or at least store credit), they're under no legal obligation to do so. Under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sale_of_Goods_Act_1979), they're only obliged to offer a full refund if the product is not of "satisfactory quality".		2011-01-21 22:22:00

At one point, when I was working there, I know Sainsbury's wouldn't give refunds on CD's ect. due to piracy, though in those cases if the customer asked to talk to one of the managers they'd put it through anyway and make those of us who had to follow the rules look mean and belligerent...

However, if you buy online, it's distance selling (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Consumer_Protection_%28Distance_Selling%29_Regulat ions_2000) and you have 7 days to change your mind. But, importantly, if it is software then it cannot be unsealed.

They are usually good but when it comes to pre-ordering games they seem to send you a dispatch email early or something. That or "dispatched" means "sitting in the loading bay".		2011-01-21 23:32:00

Just grabbed my copy from town today. Morrison's and Grainger Games have the standard UK copy for ?35 if anyones looking for a good deal.

Have been away from the LBP community for a long time. Game is breathtaking, what people have already done with it is breathtaking. Really feel somewhat like a flea in a storm with regards to returning to maybe some more level creating after so long, and the community has essentially super-talent now blowing everyone else out of the water! Will see what I can muster.

I would be pee'd right off if I didn't buy another one last night... Well, I actually am furious with them. They'll be getting a email later!

I'm not holding Royal Mail fully responsible. Play.com shouldn't falsely advertise as 'In Stock: Usually Dispatched within 24 hours" at least 4 days before they had any intention of shipping them, to rake in a few last minute sales, like they always do.		2011-01-22 13:22:00
