Peaceful Things...

Archive: 35 posts

Alright, I know y'all are wondering "Great. What's Jack up to now?" and all... but please, hear me through.

I dunno how General Chat recieved this influx of political propaganda and tragic events, with flame wars, trolling and all of these other unnecessary behaviours erupted from it (I know I didn't set the best example by jumping into that stuff). Of course, most of it isn't intentional, but it just seems to devolve into that kind of trend, y'know?

So... why can't we just unwind and talk about the peaceful things in life? Like nature and smooth jazz, or, heck, even Flower the videogame. Just somewhere where people can just chill out and relax while browsing around LBPC. Personally, I love to imagine myself in a place like this:
http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w254/psu15540/WaCohills1Medium.jpg

Somewhere calm and sublte, nothing too much going on, with the tune of some peaceful beats (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KT-xs4EVH4E) circling around my head, letting myself get lost in the soothing tunes and whimsical atmosphere. It just feels so nice to kick back and just enjoy life without needing to worry to much about other things.

So tell me, what makes you feel peaceful and happy? And please, don't troll or flame around here. We already have enough of that in the General Chat.

Here's something peaceful you should know a lot about...

Obscure gun jokes aside, though, I have to agree with you immensely. And so, I bring this old gem some of you may remember.

As good as that song was, I cant bring myself to thank any post where Justin Beiber is doing anything but being decapitated.

Rain relaxes me, when I'm in bed and I hear it tapping against my window, it reminds me that I'm fortunate to be warm and comfortable as it's a privilege that not everyone has. Apart from that, the odd drink always does the trick.

I find driving to be very peaceful. Driving on a dark mountain road at night, no other cars around, rain drops covering the windows and some nice music on.

That's my ultimate place.

I know how, it's because I started posting

I'm not a troll, I try and douse flame wars... and I'm actually a happy go lucky, calm and polite person. I just have an inbuilt need to play devils advocate.

You shouldn't confuse heated debate with petty arguing though....the two are completely different animals.
You can have a heated debate and still remain civil and polite.
In fact, engaging in heated debates is how I relax

My favorite place to relax and have fun is when I am on location shooting races. Nothing like a nicely kept world class road course and full access to do whatever I want within reason, with nothing to do except play with my cameras and watch a bunch of cool racing. In between sessions, finding a nice spot on the grass to lie down and close my eyes for a bit on a sunny day... ahhhhh..

I'm relaxed by metal and thrash music...
Also agree with SR2, nothing like a good drive to calm the nerves. I've driven up and down from Florida and New Jersey more than a few times and that's just the best 20~ hours right there. (Except DC. **** their traffic management. Seriously.)

*Relax*

I tend to listen to death/thrash/doom metal when I need to tidy up the house... i find it motivates me to move around more.

*deep breath* Yes... relaxing place..

Not to divert from the topic too much (it's still technically a relaxing conversation?), do you know Static-X? They have an album called Machine that's pretty solid start to finish. Pretty sure thy are classified as Metal.

The Place i go to find my inner Peace is a Park right next to the Rhine.
For the ones who don't know the Rhine (or 'Rhein&apos is a River.
Sometimes i'm just sitting on a Bench, listening to the Sound of the flowing Water.
Or i go visit the old Willow Tree.
It's really old and propably the most beautiful Tree i've ever seen.
Standing on a small Hill. Sometimes i wonder bout no one else is going there, but that's good for me.
My Mind comes to Rest there.

Static-X? nope never heard of them, but I like a bit of industrial metal, like Ministry or NIN, so I may check them out.

I can relax at anytime by using a bhuddist meditiation technique I learned from the Dalai Lama. While I don't believe in bhuddism, their meditation techique totally works

Industrial, Ministry, and NIN fan? Oh yeah, you should enjoy them then.
Just make sure you get some of their early work, Wisconsin Death Trip, Machine.. all the way up to the remixed Greatest Hits really. Everything after that was... uhh.. lets say less than enjoyable. But yeah, hope you like 'em.

And to keep it on track, another thing that relaxes me is physically going to the movie theater (rather than set up the PS3) and just watching movies all day.

EXPLOSION!

Back on topic... I do have a chilled out playlist on my ipod. My favourite song on there is 'Riders on the storm' by the doors.

If I were to pick an album to "chill out*" to, it would be Pink Floyd - Obscured by Clouds

I listen to Jazz, Pop, or anything else besides rap. I can't stand rap.
Oh, and I also like to draw if I'm stressed out. It keeps me sane

I love electronic music like this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JMUNv3E81Ds

It's so nice and relaxing. Everytime I'm on my PC i turn on this kind of music and just forget the problems and stress of life.
Just lean back and close your eyes.

Music is as much important as food or friends. It gives you the power to life and smile.

they are birds of peace
they do not fight
they take only what they are given
they are free
they reminded me that life exists outside of the hell house
they are attractive
they are wise
they are conquerers
they are lovers
they are my idols

I also like to listen to this. It's actually quite good, IMO.

And just for the record, I'm not trying to Rickroll anyone.

Interesting... It's the opposite for me; drawing makes me get stressed out and go insane (depends what i'm drawing though, and how well it's going)

So tell me, what makes you feel peaceful and happy?

I love music, isn't it just grand? Here's a sample of what I may like...

Really depressing music, I'm not in favor of the sad lyrics, but meh, it's not really that bad. Just don't listen to the lyrics.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NSui9yMulpQ

Coraline? A clay-motion movie based off a book I once read a long time ago. Odd yet interesting music...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6Phs898rcY

UP! One of my favorite Pixar Animated movies.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nbrdx6nQQO4

Halo ODST, never played the game, music sounds fantastic though, Halo is known for great scores I believe...The song is one of my favorites, starts off with a calm rain ambience and picks up tune.

Oh! Almost forgot Metal Geat Solid

Images are great too, I especially like caedes background website:

About drawing, I always doodle away when I get stressed. Sometimes doing a big detailed drawing is even better if I have the time... Although I know what you mean NingaFerret, art GCSE driving me round the bend right now. 2011-01-21 19:45:00

Quite odd...but this is what gives me a sense of peace, a well known image...
http://www.taramtamtam.com/wallpapers/Nature/I/Iceberg/images/Iceberg_1.jpg
Because cold and breathing chilled air makes me feel alive.

On the music side of things...
Please close your eyes and listen to this song and let it take you away

What I find peaceful is:

Watching my daughter sleeping with her puppy snuggled up near her.
Watching my daughter and husband playing together.
Walking along the beach on a warm night.
Music
Photography
Poetry
Art
Sitting with good friends and just enjoying being with them.

Hmm, stuff I find peaceful.. Guess i'll make a list

:: Playing MineCraft on "Peaceful" difficulty. I find that, just exploring, growing crops, and building a life for my person is very relaxing and almost a rush of euphoria for me. Not to mention, with some of the music (Such as the piano renditions) add a nice touch and it almost makes me feel like everything in life isn't important for the time being.

::Cuddling. Granted, not a self-induced form of relaxation, but I absolutely fall into the most relaxed peaceful mind ever when i'm curled up next to my lady and we are just laying there for hours.

::Some music. I listen to a few specific songs to keep my relaxed, such as "Grenade - Bruno Mars", "Hallelujah - Rufus Wainwright", "Cartoon medley - Fredrik Larrson". There are others but, these seem to be my main. Also "Hey Ya (soft acoustic cover) - "Forgot artist".

::Watching any Hayao Miyazaki films. The man is a genius, and watching his movies just puts me in a completely zombie-fied state.

"Hallelujah" - Rufus Wainwright

GYAAH!!! That's one of my pet hates!

"Hallelujah" is by Leonard Cohen!!! It is the only version you will ever need to listen to, every other version pales in comparison to the original.

Oh wait!!! "Relax" *deep breath* - and I'm calm.
I find a nice fat bong calms me down the most

Without my PS3 I'm searching for alternative forms of passing the time. Now I'm playing a lot of SimCity 4.

When I want to chill out, I pause the simulation (the game keeps going, but the time stops), and just watch the cars driving and the people walking. Also enjoy all the nice buildings that were built. And with this song playing on the background:

as a quick aside: did you read about this guy who actually "beat" simcity (http://www.1up.com/boards/posts/list/50005.page?escapeContext)?
3+ years of planning to do.

Yeah, but this is Sparta SimCity 4, and it's a lot harder to manage the cities now.

Lmao. I know Leonard Cohen did it. But I prefer the cover by Rufus Wainwright. Leonard Cohens version is fine, I know alot of people prefer it over Rufus', but still I prefer Rufus' cover. (:

It's the cover I sang with my ex back in highschool for duets in Vocals class.
