ILLISIUM - {Post-poned For Now}

Archive: 13 posts

ILLISIUM
(Tentative Title)

23rd January 2011 - Thanks to everyone for showing interest and signing up, but I've decided to put this project on hold for a while. There are a number of reasons for this. Firstly, online mutli-player is absolutely broken, there is no way around it. The "infinite loading" glitch has been plauging every online session I'm in. We really have no idea when it might get a decent fix so I really don't want to organize any sort of creation sessions with the state the game is in now.

I'll be using this time to improve my creation skills and release some one-off levels as well as help out with other people's projects like LittleBigJourney. I'll probably start playing around with some ideas for the project too so will hopefully have something to show when I decide to bring the project up and running again. So stay tuned for now and hopefully we can make a start on the project some time soon.

Recruiting dedicated and talented creators to join
in the production of a fun, imaginative and
often trippy series of levels in LittleBigPlanet 2.

Note: This story is a work in progress.

--{ PROJECT OVERVIEW }--

Illisium is a multi-genre 14 level project planned for LittleBigPlanet 2 inspired by mind-bending games like Pyschonauts and the Persona series as well as the critically-acclaimed movie Inception. The players can access all the levels through the main hub HQ level, where they will dive into the minds of 5 different notorious criminals and explore uniquely themed worlds comprised of 2 levels each where they must discover the memories locked away within each criminal's twisted mind. It will primarily be a platform game, but it will include elements from many other genres from racing and shooters to even RTS and rhythm games.

--{ SNEAK PEEK }--

To give you an idea of what this project is all about, let me talk briefly about some of the themes and ideas behind the first level of the game.

SUBJECT #1 - King Joe (A.K.A. Joey Fletcher)
A fox-man and a notorious thug who grew up on the harsh streets of the city. A man (or fox) born after his time, he is a very simplistic criminal with simple methods and refuses to give in to all this modern technological mumbo-jumbo we take for granted, because of this, expert law enforcement became too much for him to handle and led to his eventual capture.

The dreamscape formed from his conscience seems to be a city inspired by 1930's prohibition-era New York, where he sits atop the underground as a notorious smuggler and a truly feared king of organized crime. His secret love for the arts has a huge presence in this world with jazz clubs, theatres and art galleries never hard to find. The player is going to have to watch out for his tommy gun-wielding leauge of goons covered around the city.

Themes attatched to gameplay:
- Lots of cliqued gangster movie-like enemies to defeat.
- A jazz club where you can actually join in and play along.
- A casino section with absurdly large spinning roulette wheels, flying playing cards and crazy slot machines to navigate through.
- Lots of Skyscraper rooftop platforming.

That is just one of the five worlds the player will visit and nothing is set in stone. I am very open to suggestions for the other 4 subjects and the crazy worlds they hold within their minds.

--{ PROJECT TEAM }--

If this project interests you, then by all means please apply right here in this thread or via PM to become a part of the team using this simple layout:

PSN ID:
<PSN ID>

Do you own a microphone for PS3?:
<Yes/No>

What team position are you applying for? (Optional):
<Feel free to select a title listed below, make your own or even leave blank if you are unsure and we can decide later>

What skills do you possess that will benefit the project?:
<List some of the stuff your good at and any stuff you may have made in LBP or otherwise.>

Any acheivments/qualifications to show off?
<If you have any sweet levels, artwork, music, whatever that shows off your talent, then include them here>

Finally, will you be able to dedicate at least a few hours each week to working on the project?
<Pretty self-explanatory. Got to have the team working on the project or nothing will get done.>

This project will be an entire team effort, with every member having their own creative input and their particular skills used in every level. It's likely this will be a fairly long-running project but with enough time and effort I believe we'll be able to create a unique and fun experience for LBP2 players.

Any team member is free to take up numerous roles if they feel they are up to it. Here is an idea of some of the skills we're looking for in the project:

Logician: Someone who really knows their way around the mechanics of create mode and can concuct some real cool stuff with it. Will be able to solve complex riddles like "Dude, how the hell are we going to get this two-headed Orang-Utan enemy to dance when you jump on him?".

Builder: Someone who knows how to sculpt the landscape just right to make a challenging jump, intense racing sequence or a perplexing puzzle. Perhaps they're not great with the scenery but can make some swell looking characters or NPC's instead?

Artsy Guy/Gal: Someone with a real knack for making things look cool or funny or beautiful or whatever! They will need to work with builders in making sure that everything they produce looks great and fits in with the creative theme and the ideas layed out by the rest of the crew. It's not mandatory, but if you can sketch out ideas too then that's a definite plus!

Musician: Someone with the varied musical talent needed to really set the atmosphere in each world with a variety of different musical styles and genres. Naturally, they need to be able to make good use of the in-game sequencer.

Other: I'm also looking for some funny and witty folks to help make the dialogue shine. Voice actors may become wanted later in the project, but not now. Some dedicated and critical testers are also welcome to find bugs and give their overall opinion of the levels.

Helper: Maybe you don't have a lot of confidence in your skills but still want to help out? These kind of people are still very valuable to the team and we'll be relying on these people for some fresh ideas and constructive feedback on our work.

That about sums up the project, if you have any questions then feel free to PM me or ask them right here. If you would like to get involved then please apply whenever and if you just want to share your thoughts on the project, you are also more than welcome to post here.

--{ CURRENT TEAM MEMBERS }--

UmJammerSully - Organizer/Supervisor/Builder/Musician
Silver39 - Builder
Cauan-XV - Artsy Guy
Ryhas - Wordsmith/Musician

Chazprime - Helper (TBC)
Shhabbazz - Helper (TBC)

--{ THE SEARCH CONTINUES... }--

[19th Jan 2011] Thanks to all the people showing interest and welcome to Silver39, Cauan-XV, Ryhas, Chazprime and Shhabbazz as team members.

At this point we're mostly in need of a talented logician or two to help make some complicated tech behind the scenes of each level. Some of the current members may decide they fit these roles but we also need artists who can capture each theme and specifically work on stage design, character design and enemy design so if you feel you could do that justice, please step forward and we'll talk about it more. Finally, some more helpers wouldn't go amiss as I would love to have a lot of people brainstorming ideas as soon as I have made the Illisium-specific group.

Further details coming soon...

This is a project I am willing to be a part of, I absolutely love Psychonaut and would love to assist in this project.

PSN ID:
Silver39_7

Do you own a microphone for PS3?:
No

What team position are you applying for? (Optional):
Builder, I am able to come up with some fun platforming when I can manipulate the game's physics and layers. I've even got 3 spotlights to prove it.(on the PSP side, but I do have a PS3 and will be getting LBP2 at the end of the week, hopefully)

What skills do you possess that will benefit the project?:
I am not too skilled with the LBP2 logics as far as I know. But I have a great understanding when it comes to outputs and inputs and a lot of the technicallity when you talk about logic.

Dang! It's a shame I don't have a PSP as I would love to check out your levels.

Welp, for now I'll have to to trust the screenshots I have seen and the masses of incredibly positive feedback you have on your level threads. Welcome to the team. :star: (To Angel: Yep, I'm stealing your application reviewing method. )

Stay tuned for more info as it arrives Silver, which should be when we have some more members.

Thanks for applying, guys. I must advise anyone looking to apply that you will stand a much greater chance of being brought into the team if you show off en example of your skills such as a level, an object you have made, some sketches, music tracks etc.

To Cauan-XV:

Sorry, but saying "do not play my levels" is setting off alarm bells more than anything and you haven't provided any examples of your skills. Thank you for showing interest but I'm afraid I must decline.

To Shhabbazz:

Exact same deal as above. Saying "do not play my levels" would be fine but you need to have something else to show off your skills. If you're a musician, I would like to hear some of your work for example. You are welcome to try applying once more if you have something you would like to show. Thank you for showing interest but again, I must decline.

To all new applicants: I have edited the application. Please use the one provided in the main post.

Sorry but i think you did not understand, i said "do not play my levels" because i only have old levels published in LBP1 and you can have a bad first impression on me.

If you want i can show the photos that I showed in another topic of project for LBP2.

THIS IS A NOT OLD AND NOT NEW LBP1 LEVEL (NOT PUBLISHED)

Cool!

PSN ID:
Ryhas

Do you own a microphone for PS3?:
Yes, though I have to be really close to it for it to work.

What team position are you applying for? (Optional):
Other. I'm good at dialogue and such. I can test. Also, my roommate and I have gotten some good experience with the sequencer, so you could put me down for musician as well.

What skills do you possess that will benefit the project?:
See above.

Any acheivments/qualifications to show off?
My and my roommate's songs. They're in video form, so don't be surprised when our frightening picture appears, lol.
The Race (http://www.facebook.com/v/476494452437) - this one cuts off... we didn't realize that sequencer songs could be longer, haha.
Ghost of Mosquitos Past (http://www.facebook.com/v/476973507437)
Moonlight Planeta (http://www.facebook.com/v/476970677437)
I had another really awesome one (probably my best), but it was only partly finished on the beta.
I can also show you my levels sometime so you can get a feel for the dialogue and such. The Temple of Dark Matter particularly has that, but it's not published... because it's not done.

To Cauan:

I haven't forgotten about ya, I'm still considering and will be back with a proper response soon.

To Rhyhas:

Sweet! Your music speaks for itself and I'm more than happy to sign you up as a writer and musician. Thanks and welcome to the team. :star:

To all:

I'll be creating a group for discussion very soon and if possible I would like any members to get Windows Live Messenger if they don't have it as I feel it's the easiest instant messenger service to use.

Thanks so much! I can't wait to help.

And might I suggest Skype for IM? If not, that's cool, but just a suggestion.

If the majority of team members would prefer to use skype, then I'm happy to roll with that. I just don't find it as user-friendly as WLM as it doesn't even tell you who is online in the group unless you have them added, meaning everyone would need to add eachother whilst with WLM I just need to make the group, invite all members and then we're good to go. There's other reasons why I prefer WLM too.

Once I have the Illisium group made later today, I'll have a poll to decide which one to use.
