Two switches controlling the same thing

Archive: 2 posts

Hey guys, is there an easy way to have two different switches control the same thing (ie. sound object)?

I'm busy trying to add sound effects to the doors and lifts in my level. I've done the first door by putting a key on the bottom of the door, and a key switch on the ground and in the ceiling. I've attached these switches to two hidden pistons with keys, and inverted them, so that when the door is opening/closing, the key isn't within range of either of the floor/ceiling switches, meaning the piston keys aren't within range of their key switch, thus playing a mechanical door opening sound.

It would've been much easier to just connect the floor/ceiling key switches directly to the sound object, but doing it this way seems to work alright. The problem is I can't re-use this 2-piston system because I can't connect additional swiches to the pistons either.

So basically, my question is, will I have to create a little piston system like above for every door/lift I want to have sound effects in this way? Or is there a simpler way to do it?

Thanks guys.

edit: just realized if I switch the door key switches and keys around (ie. have the key switch itself on the door rather than the key, and a key on the floor & ceiling, I can probably cut out the piston system.. will try later)

I'm guessing it's a switch, right?

If it is you can connect the switch to the door and to the sound effect speaker. That way it will activate when the door does.
