LBP2 Profile Importing Guide

Archive: 37 posts

Me and a couple of my friends have had problems importing our profiles into the LBP2 Beta, even late into with all the patches up, so we played around and figured out what you can do for a stress and swearing free import! The main factor for importing is the size of your profile. A profile over 25MB is going to be a pain, 20MB is pretty much luck, and 15MB does nicely. You can check this by backing up your current profile, then looking at the file size once it has finished. Here are the steps you need to follow to slim your profile if it's a fatty like mine or my friends'.

1) Levels are a HUGE portion of your profile, and that's going to be our major focus for your profile's crash diet. You're going to want to individually back up the levels and delete them. Some helpful tips for this: name your levels or it will be a massive pain importing your levels into LBP2. Also, you don't have to back up ALL your levels, pick some lucky survivors. Time for a lousy metaphor. You are the helicopter, and the levels are the people stranded on the island. Your patience is the size of your helicopter. The more patient you are, the more levels will survive and make it to LBP2. When you are in LBP2, simply import the levels to your moon in the same fashion you would in LBP1 (press square, scroll right to "import", pick your level, ta-da). If your profile is close to 15MB, you're good and ready for LBP2. If you're still a little pudgy, continue to step 2.

2) Objects are your next biggest factor in LBP for profile size. Delete unwanted objects, both your own and community to continue slimming down. If you still need to continue "The Biggest Loser: LBP Edition" proceed to step 3.

3) Pictures are low resolution in LBP, but they still can take up some space. Again, delete unwanted pics, community and your own. If you STILL are big, go to step 4.

4) Costumes and pods are all that's left. These are surprisingly larger than you think, so kill off the ones you don't want, or that you can easily re-make in LBP2. If your costume is and a amazingly creative plain sackperson with a shirt, just delete and re-make it in LBP2. Same goes with pods, simple pods take up space, and you can re-make them easily. There is no way you are still fat unless you have a ton of insanely complicated objects. If so, first try and import your profile. If it doesn't work, then proceed to step 5, the last step!

5) Take your crazy objects and stick them in levels. Leave the level in pause mode, and once you've filled up a level, name it, back it up, and delete it. Repeat until your profile is slim and sexy. If you STILL can't make it, your profile is most likely glitched and you should look for help elsewhere. You might wanna try step 6 though, it's a last ditch.

6) It is highly unlikely you will need this step, but if so, continue. Send your pictures to another PSN account of yours. If you don't have another account, use a trusted friend, or make another account. Have them, or your other account, re-gift the objects to you in LBP2. It will take a while, but this is the last resort method. Your profile will, at long last, be slim, and if it is not, I can no longer help you. Sorry.

Additions:

The all-LBP-knowledgable Aya042 says that profiles that were downloaded off a website, for the purpose of them having all the stickers or perhaps all the objects, most likely cannot be imported into LBP2.

chazprime has discovered that you should delete all the corrupted objects off your LBP1 profile! These can cause freezing errors when you import your profile.

I was at 14MB when I imported into LBP2, and everything works fine!

To help contribute to the guide, please post how big your profile was when you imported into LBP2, and if you had to do something beforehand. This will save many others some precious time if we can find a trend! If you find any bugs or shortcuts, post them below and I'll include it in the guide. Hope this helps!

Sounds like a lot of trouble just to import a profile, maybe the retail game has a less buggy importing process?2011-01-15 23:29:00

Radishlord, I think it might be better in the retail game, but I'm doubtful. Very late in the beta I tried to import my profile, and it was still problematic. I just put this up before, so if the LBP2 Profile Importing Apocolypse does break loose, LBPC shall be prepared!2011-01-16 16:39:00

So if I didn't have any problems in the BETA I should be ok?2011-01-16 16:47:00

I would venture to say yes, you're in the clear. When I was figuring this out, some people with massive profiles imported problem free, while others had to slim down. I just know that if you follow the steps and slim your profile, you're good for LBP2. If you can't import your profile in LBP2, this is the first place to come.2011-01-16 16:54:00

Ok, my profile is 16MB and I've got a lot of stuff I don't need if anything goes wrong first time.

Yeah, that should work fine. I'm gonna add an alternate step 5 that should work even better than the one there now, so use it if you have to.2011-01-17 01:27:00

I deleted almost everything except my costumes and a few levels, and now my profile is 4.6 mb.

Wow, mine was 27MB before I went on a profile diet, now it's about 16. Did you go through all the steps in the guide or something?2011-01-17 06:46:00

Mine was about +20MB, and did just fine, no problems, and just a feew secs.

It MAY just be a small proble, some have.
Also, as said before, it was the BETA as well.

Mine's currently around 16 MB, but I've got a few levels and objects I can delete.

Reminds me of when we were constantly reminded of our profile's being too big pre-Leerdammer. That was so annoying.

The only reason I think it might be in the retail game, is because problems were still ocurring LATE into the Beta, when almost all the patches were up. Also, 20MB is about the upper range of what works, but sometimes it doesn't. If you're doing fine in the Beta, you should have no problems in the retail game. As I stated earlier, this guide is for "if the LBP2 Profile Importing Apocolypse does break loose, LBPC shall be prepared!"2011-01-17 15:36:00

It appears that stuff made in the LBP2 Beta won't carry over to the full game, so people in the Beta that have had fattened up profiles might need to use this guide. That being said, I now have to use this guide after my LBP1 splurge.2011-01-17 21:27:00

In the full game, it is as simple as pressing yes when it asks you if you want to import.
It just took a little bit to get started. No problems at all.
(yes, i won the game, but dont have it now)
EDIT: i dont know how big my profile was.

I know you just gotta press a button to import, but sometimes it will freeze, or only load your profile halfway causing some serious bugs (I was a victim of that). This guide simply shows how to fix this, if it occurs.2011-01-18 04:22:00

It seems to be a luck thing, me and my friends couldn't find any consistent trends in which people could import easily and which couldn't. All we really know is that a small profile makes it easier to import. I did fine with a 14MB profile today, but my friend has a MASSIVE profile and couldn't import.2011-01-19 04:01:00

Soo... One thing. Does it begin the importing automaticly when you first go in LBP2 or do you have to do something befor that?2011-01-19 06:59:00

Reports suggest that copied saves will not import into LBP2.

Not sure how much this will help out, but one thing that might help is to check your profile for corrupted items before you import your profile into LBP2. I read about all the troubles people were having yesterday, so when I got home last night I went through my LBP1 profile and cleaned out some troublesome items. I'd noticed that some of my old costumes - ones I'd saved from 2008 - gave me a error and the red exclamation point icon when I selected them. One even crashed and deleted my pod decorations. Basically any saved item (costume, sticker or saved object) that I came across that I couldn't load...I deleted, then I backed it up and imported into LBP2 after the intro level. It hasn't frozen on me yet (knock on wood)2011-01-19 20:25:00

Ok, that sounds good. Thanks for your input, I'm gonna stick that in the main section of the guide. If anybody else has something they can contribute, post it here and I'll stick it in the guide.2011-01-19 22:08:00

You should try it with corrupted costumes, and then without them to see if it makes any difference. If you can go in with corrupted ones, then you get to keep them instead of deleting them, and it may turn out that you didn't have to.2011-01-20 01:22:00

But if you can't wear them anyway, is there any point? Also, they're all just costume 'sets' (e.g Dinosaur, Cowboy), so they'll be easy to remake.

I meant to test if corrupted data really makes a difference when you import profiles, but too late now. Tell me how your importing goes, and with what size you did it with if you can. I'm trying to find a magic number for importing size.2011-01-21 04:24:00

I've just imported 'stuff collected in LB1' rather than import my profile. My moon levels are all backed up and importable, so other than all my objects/stickers/and costumes which I lost when I had to re-playthrough a few weeks backs, there's no disadvantage to doing this that hasn't occurred to me is there?2011-01-22 16:56:00

Don't quit get what you're saying there at the end, but some of my friends said that this works fine. Can you tell me if you get to keep the MM story objects and stickers? Just to see if we should add this to the guide.2011-01-23 04:38:00

Well mine was 11 MB I think. I swear I got rid of the corrupted stuff, but some costumes appeared as corrupted. They were simply red exclamation marks, made no difference whatsoever.

EDIT: I thought importing stuff from LBP1 was the only way, so I did that.

10MB and imported fine right at the start of the game. It may not be the size the matters (oo-er), but whether it contains any corrupt elements or not.
