Weekly Level Roundup Episode 3

Archive: 14 posts

Hello everyone, here's the third level roundup but the last level roundup of LBP1. Anyway, here are all the levels.

1. "Ruins of Albion" by metalhead_as

lbp.me link: http://lbp.me/v/wd6751

Another day, another level by metalhead_as with great gameplay and stunning visuals. Although he doesn't stick with the same theme of course but goes for a more jungle look. But such a beautiful jungle is also filled with deadly challenges and there's a good bit of sliding, jumping, swinging and moving pretty rocks into where they belong but like the first, the level will end soon but still, there's some nice gameplay fit into the level plus a beautiful little introduction with a nice logo for the level.

I will admit though that a checkpoint before doing the first real challenges with the platforms going up and down with spikes above pointing down and water below you would be good. Here are pictures of the level.

2. "Sackboy In The Fog" by camel504

lbp.me link: http://lbp.me/v/qxmvv3

You're traveling out in the beautiful woods in the morning, swinging from rock to rock, gathering nutricious point bubbles. It's a day like no other, that's what it is. But when crossing a bridge that breaks, you fall into a much darker land of trees and animals, covered in grey fog. Bats will fly by you, wolves will howl to you, rocks will tumble to the side of you and darkness will creep right behind you in this beautiful level.

The gameplay rocks plus the level's full of great scenes. The design for the creatures are also great and so is the SFX for them and everything else although I would expect some SFX for the first creature that you encounter. Here are pictures of the level.

3. "A Salty Space adventure: Save the Girl!" by Mnniska

lbp.me link: http://lbp.me/v/wdcz83#1

In this fun, quirky tale where like lots, you'll have to save the girl from a creature that's captured her and the creature's known as Jabbah but you must first sail with a good space pirate known as Greff in his ship through space to Jabbah's lair, a gigantic whale. The level's filled with some great little comedy like on the to do list: make a to do list, when you encounter the giant whale wearing lipstick and the little surprise revenge attack and the surprise wife revenge attack and much more but there's stills ome great gameplay, with lots inolving using the paintinator and jumping and shooting both at the right time without being shot up into the electrical ceiling plus soem other thing using the paintinator.

There was a point where the fourth platform ya gotta jump n shoot with burnt sides stayed there and didn't come back at all which didn't ruin anything, just a minor little problem. The scenes also are fantastic and there's plenty of them like the stare off, talking with Goakka, being held in the cage infront of the crod, Jabbah stickign some dm infront of Greff and more. Here are pictures of the level.

4. "Poison Underground" by natuhito

lbp.me link: http://lbp.me/v/rbe8d9

Although this level isn't filled with an outstanding combination of stickers, decorations, materials or lighting effects, "Poison underground" is a marvelous platformer yet still has some good, lighting and has some good materials and decorations throughout it, making it a clean, not-too detailed level with some nice platforming in it.

Purple and gruesome gas is what this udnerground factory's covered in so stay clear. Use the equipment you have around you to get through it like boxes with creature brains to bounce off of, levitating platforms moving to the side or other things. Just be ready and watch your step! Here are pictures of the level.

5. "Ethereal Musings [1p] [Challenging Puzzler]" by zynax555

lbp.me link: http://lbp.me/v/wgywv6

And I thought "Into the Castle Depths" was amazing. In zynax's latest level, he raises the level of great puzzles yet still manages to fit in a beautiful theme with middle eastern render and tiles with brilliant details. You'll be looking up, down, left, right and all over to find clues to solve some really cool puzzles, collect keys to get in and out of rooms and there are some awesome challenges including a part where you must move a cart attatched to a platform that you have to balance a platform with a grabbable rope, once you get it all the way to the right, you can grab and swing on the rope to ge the final key. Here are pictures of the level.

6. "Temple of Ice Goddess" by natuhito

lbp.me link: http://lbp.me/v/vme57e

Blown away by the goddess of Ice in a frozen pyramid, you begin your journey through a beautiful yet freezing environment, the Ice Goddess' temple, but that will not be the last time you'll encounter her. Here's another great level by natuhito, this level focusing more on details than another one of his known as "Poison Underground".Great challenges are what this level's full of aswell with you keeping up with the Ice Goddess as she emits platforms and de-emits one behind, bouncing off button to button to the left even though these buttons whicha re on stone blocks are going left and more including a fun slide near the end as you return in a frozen pyramind. Here are pictures of the level.

7. "Planet:Bean Bag (Intro)" by WillGuitarGuy

lbp.me link: http://lbp.me/v/vnjc4r

Known as a bean bag on legs to these robots, you play John, a sackperson who ends up on another planet and as wet as this planet it is, the water flow happens to not be enough and you'll have to help these fun, little robots. Traveling through pipes and pulling through egars is what you'll do tog et around this clean, futuristic land. You'll jump into an amazingly designed ship at the end of this great introduction, plus this planet has some cool purple glass doors and cool blue boxes that not only give you points when you rgab them but also, they have these little skull faces and when you grab theme and before they dissapear, the eyes glow purple! Here are pictures of the level.

8. "Cool guys don't look at explosions!" by napero7

lbp.me link: http://lbp.me/v/w7re4d

Escape a burning building where exposions will occur all over, trying to grab all the bubbles you can and finish the race as quick as you can aswell to get the highest score in this action-packed level by napero7. There will be a bunch of parts where you'll try to get on certain areas but say if you fail to get there or fall off, that's fine. You won't be dying in this level, just losing the chance to get the extra points up in that area. which is pretty cool and I actually haven't really seen that done before.

The explosions are fun, well done and has some great lighting to it and once you leave the building, you'll find yourself in a snow-filled environment wit the scoreboard just ahead. Here are pictures of the level.

9. "GRAVEL MARVEL: Hero 4 Hire" by GRAVEL

lbp.me link: http://lbp.me/v/wbhbfs

It's your job to find our the delay on LBP2 and get to MM's studios for SONY in this simply outstanding level filled with some magnificent challenges like riding trash can lids down telephone wires and collect missing parts of your utility belt as you bounce off floating buttons. but still maintainst some beautiful lighting and a brilliant night sky with some pretty stars. Yes the challenges are...challenging and at the trash can lid part, you defintiely need to do it right or it will be frustrating but overall I thought the gameplay was great and unique.

Plus there's a bunch of points around every blue fist so make sure to keep your eye out for them. At the very end, right before you talk to Alex Evans, you fall down but if you get to the very right where points are and fall down there, you might just break through that invisible dm, skipping the scene and heading straight to the scoreboard. Here are pictures of the level.

10. "GRAVEL MARVEL: What can I say?" by GRAVEL

lbp.me link: http://lbp.me/v/wbhcen

In the second part of GRAVEL's series, you'll be attacthed to a jetpack with buildings to the side going up in the beginning. You'll have to get on one and quickly get down to the next one and the next one and not be brought up too high or you'll die from the gas above. When you're near the bottom, you'll have to jump onto the police car which is going left and right and you'll have to try jumping inside the building to the right at the right time. This was an awesome challenge but there is a glitch where the police car gets messed up and a new one emits but then almost all of it breaks with only the top outline still left, not being able to go left and right. This pretty much makes the jump impossible, making you have to restart but luckily it's at the very beginning and it wasn't very common for me at all, just happened once.

Once in the building, you'll have to climb up real high on these hexagon-shaped platforms but for this challenge, you'll need to have some good balance, jump a lot and be moving through layers a lot. The challenge after that has you navigating a platform to the right but you'll ave to avoid the electrifying lights. This too is one tough part so luckily there's a switch below it you can pull to skip the challenge. There was this glitch during the challenge that ocurred where a small light came and didn't hit me but sorta touched some of the platform, moving it back a bit and a a few seconds later the platform fell to the ground below, close to the switch that was also on the ground below. Later on, after the challenge with the moving lights on the seesaw-like contraption, there's a challenge that may seem pretty much impossible and I don't wanna ruin it for GRAVEL but I'll just say there's a trick to it, look around. There's another glitch where when youg et to the part where it shows the LBPC sign and a sticker for "Fire and Ice" by Morgana25, "Roller Inc." by Comphermc and "The Lost Planets" Red Zone" by XTrophx.

There's a Blue VR platform that eveyr few seconds, jolts up, which helps you get up but if you right near it but not on it, it'll actually dissapear and not emit back, making you not being able to get up. After lots of tries on a certain aprt, I could never get to a certain point and maybe I'll give it some more tries and hopefully, will be able to get to the very end but of what I played, it turned out to be absolutely outstanding, just like the level before. Here are pictures of the level.

Thank You for this... and I'll look into some of those bugs... I was unaware of... (you do me double service sir!) Also, Thanks for making GRAVEL MARVEL: What Can I Say? look so freaking awesome! Nice Colourful Pics. Hey! Your gonna be a busy guy next week... Don't wear yourself thin... perhaps, actual story levels will be highlighted? Either way, Thanks for sending LBP1 off in grand style.:hrmf:

You bet I was excited after reading that visitor message, this is just awesome

It's really nice to see someone taking their time to do this, the reviews of the levels here are excellent and it's nice to see high quality photos (especially for levels with great detail in the lightning)
My level being on the list really means a lot to me, it's really nice to get some recognition after working on a level for almost half a year (okay, I didn't work too regularly but still... )
I see no "big" explosions in the pictures, which is actually a good thing. People tend to be positively surprized after the first big boom
The other levels on here really looked interesting and well made, I think it was only fair to queue all of them

All the work that goes into this is just stunning but the outcome is brilliant, too. I'll look forward to your next roundup, even though it might be really hard to do a good list with all the new levels coming out with LBP2 (I imagine there will be loads and loads of levels...) Good luck

Thanks Mnniska and yeah, probably should start also mentioning everyone who helped with the levels mentioned but then there's chances they didn't list it anywhere, don't have an account on the forums, no longer go on PS3, etc. but I'm not trying to complain. I guess if there's no way I can find info. on who helped, I'll keep the lsit empty or whatever2011-01-16 00:45:00

Hey guys, sadly, according to certain events, I'll not be able to do a weekly level roundup this week. I most likely will be able to post a creator interview though. I'm sorry about this and hopefully another thing I'll be posting on Sunday will make up for it 2011-01-20 11:53:00

Uh... Yeah, what he said.

It's worth noting that the spotlight is used to highlight levels within LBPC's level showcase whilst Dragon's list branches out to levels outside of our community so yeah, of course it's going to have more.

Either way, it's a nice list and quite varied too. Props to Dragon for putting it together.

Thanks guys and I know I don't work nearly as hard as the spotlight crew as my way's much easier while the spotlight crew has to get through ALL the levels of LBPC so if anyone deserves kudos, it's them

bummer , well at least you will make up on sunday
