Sackeratinator 3000 - Early Project Look

Archive: 23 posts

I will be officially announcing this project and should have the level building kit all done on February 1st. Just thought I would share a glimpse at some of the project details:

Project:
Sackeratinator 3000 is a level created in sections by the LBP2 community. The community will be given a simple object kit so they can go to their moon and create their section of the level. I will then retrieve the created section from the community author and place it in the level. The section is designed to fit like a section of a quilt. Once all compiled it will be a very unique level created by many different authors throughout the LBP2 community. Also each section will display author credits on a button press.

See the web site for more information.

What confinements are you referring to? I am in the process of re-wording things before February so things may change. If you have suggestions please let me know since we have plenty of time to change the project to make it a better project in the end

I am hoping to get around 100 sections for the 1st level idea (Sackeratinator 3000). I currently have around 7 developers ready to create withoutofficially announcing the project yet. Once you do think of an ideas just drop me a PSN friends request with the idea and I will add you to the spreadsheet I am keeping so I can inform everyone when the kit will be available.

Well I absolutely love your idea, and Im totally into it, Id love to make a section for your level. However, I want to say this, and I cant find a way to say it that doesnt sound really conceited and n00bish. I know Im gonna feel really fat headed and "I want this so you should do it"-ish, and I hate how this is going to come out, but I think changing it from a top down rat solving puzzle to just the normal side scrolling sackboy platformer, with sectional puzzles, would be more fun to and easier to design for. Thats just my personal input. Id still love to design a section for you though when LBP 2 comes out in(*gasp!*) two days!

Also, at the beginning of the vid, I love the Partners in Time music

Thanks for the feedback but for this level I will not be going platformer style as the main theme is the scientist is looking over the rat cages as you perform the tests. This is only the first community quilt project. This is why I registered LBPQUILT.com and not Sackeratinator3000.com. Not all quilt levels will be top down and we will get a platformer in there soon.

Oh I see, so the scientist is looking down on the lab rat experement, thats very clever! And more is just awesome, if Id known you were making more I shouldve just kept my (mouth...?) shut. Id love to stay active with this, it sounds like a lot of fun!2011-01-17 16:55:00

I really love this idea blastroid! (Though I think the name might be underselling it a bit...)
I would be honored to create a seciton for this great community initiative

I have just one question:
Will there be any restrictions (polygon complexity, number of different materials used) when it comes to creating "your cell"?
If the LBP2 thermo follows the rules of the old LBP one, material choice might be something that needs to be considered...

On the web site I address this a little. I talk about keeping to cardboard as much as possible and use stickers for the color decorations. I will not allow voice recording or an abundance of accessories. Other than that I am trying to stay hands off in the design and what is and is not allowed. The main reason I am asking for friends request is so I can go to the authors moon and grab the level section as an object myself. This will allow me to reduce materials, accessories, and fix things that are broken when putting the sections into the level. Unfortunately just getting the level section via friend object transfer or prize bubble will not allow me to make such changes if needed. I will not edit the section designs unless I find something broken or the thermometer is too hot.

Also the LBP2 thermometer is much more forgiving. I took a level that had 100% thermometer and took it into LBP2 and the thermometer was less than half full with no changes. Now if I were to convert all my logic to LBP2 logic it would of probably reduced it even more.

Absolutely genious! I signed up at this forum for the solely purpose of writing this post. I would love to take part in this, even though I consider my self as quite a noob (well, I've created a couple of levels on LBP1 with 40-or-something-hearts). I'll start playing around with the new create tools on Wednesday, and then consider to join in. Anyways, great project, I really look forward to this whether I'm going to participate or not. Keep up the good work! 2011-01-17 20:20:00

That is one of the good things about this project. You do not need to be a great developer. On the site I list a few example ideas on some very simply concepts. Some even require no logic at all. I will evaluate the sections as they come in and try to optimize their placements. I will organize the sections based on difficulty and variety. I already have a decent list of names for sections and I really have not officially announced the project so we are off to a good start. I hope to (optimist) fit in 100 sections on the first level if possible.

Ok, I'll see if I can come up with some idea in the next few days, then. I would, however, like to play around with the tools for a while, as well as finish the campain, before I (potentionally) start working on this. Do you have any vague idea of when your due date will be, when our "cages" need to be finished?2011-01-17 21:04:00

Just send a PSN friends request to BLASTROID and include either a cage idea or your interest and I will add you to the list. On February 1st I hope to be finished with the section kit and send a mass message to all that have signed up as well as an official forum post in all the hot spots about the project. February 1st should allow some of the newness to settle down. I hope to have the level released a month or two after this announcement.

Do not send a blank friends request since I already get 5 of those a day and they get deleted quickly.

Ok Ive run into trouble... My mom says since I got two games for Christmas she doesnt want me getting another one for a while... So I might not be able to get LBP 2 for a little while. Im trying to think of a few arguments that will speed up the process, and if Im very lucky, I might have it by Sunday.

That is, if Im any part of this project of course.

Tell her that millions of gamers are now counting on you alone to create a section of the most important level in Sackboy history. Make sure to have your fingers crossed.

When can u get the kit ready?got lbp2 already.

I will be typing the info here as it's easier for me...

Description: A creepy empty room with traps to pass you need to activate impact switches within the time limit or else you need to activate all over again.(Note:Empty but filled with hidden traps HAHa!!) Note:when activated all sensor
the cheese cage will dissapearand then you can take it.

Got many ideas. will be happy to make 2 rooms got an idea of water pushing the rat in a direction must activate different switches to make water push you in the direction of the cheese

I will be officially announcing the project to all the forums on Feb 1st, 2011. This way players have had a chance for the newness to wear off and collect items to help with their level sections. I have almost completed the kit and in the middle of testing it right now. I want to make sure I thought of all the basics before handing it out so I do not need to make 100 manual edits later on.

One thing I will need to document on the site is a problem with layers and grabbing. The rat nose has the ability to pickup grabbable items. With the item still grab the rat can jump on boxes with the item still clinging onto the rats nose. Now if the rat lets go of the object it will remain on that layer unless the object creator puts a return to back layer logic on the object. Since you the developers will be creating these objects I will need to note that for you and also check your sections as they are turned in. These are the things I am testing for before releasing the kit.

dblim100 I will send you a friends request and add your name to the list tonight.
