Physics, quantum mechanics and etc...

Archive: 14 posts

So as the title suggests, this thread may concern a tiny bit about physics, going even as far as quantum mechanics. I am just 16, but I still love to read about it and the 'Ohhhh, so that's how it is, I get it' feeling when I read the simple explanations.
Problem is though, There is almost no place I can get my hands on a copy of a book or maybe a webpage introducing me to both physics, quantum mechanics and eventually more. Yes, we always have wikipedia, but something else than that too! Norway's a boring place...

Therefore I would kindly ask you, forum if you have any websites containing my desired information or books explaining the principles, I would be more than happy if you share it with me. Gimme quarks! Gimme bosons! Gimme black holes! (please)

Oh, and I already have the books 'a briefer history of time', 'the grand design' and 'the universe in a nutshell', so that's been said

I'd say that's a good bit of knowledge.

@Bremnen:
That is kind of more like a discussion, not an explaining book, but thank you anyway, it is quite interesting!

@UnXpectiD:
A recommendation for a book or website giving a good explanation about physics, quantum theory and such matters. Also, a book or webpage explaining how to use Sigma's and Delta's (those greek symbol things) would be appreciated!

Physics isn't really my interest mainly because I suck at math lol. I'm more into philosophy and psychology.

But I found this interesting video about our universe coming from nothing.

It's over an hour long so I would grab some popcorn...and a dictionary...

ok right i will see what i can dig up.
i dont use the internet for learning and books dont normally cover this kind of stuff.
still, i can answer most questions on such subjects.

@Comishguy67:
Thanks a lot for that, I have now spent 3 hours watching different videos like that, yay

@UnXpectiD:
Well, my problem is basically that I am a noob, I got no idea about the math or anything like that, I got no idea about physics or anything... I am just aware over the phenomenons and how they basically works, like time is unique to every observer, the uncertainty principle etc... But I got no idea about math behind it D:

First of all, study a lot of Maths.
That's essential to understand the mechanics and how to study and elaborate the data.
Physics is just more the correct interpretation of collected data, and the building of a close to life model than a perfect science.

Anyway, try these

see if there are forums related that can help you.

And check the music AND text of your Country mates Borknagar (http://metal-archives.com/band.php?id=629) , really I say.

Schr?dinger's cat is good thing to look up if you want to look ar quantum stuff.
basic idea is
put cat in box with lethal substance.
close the box so no one can see in.
now leave the cat in there.
at some point the cat will be alive and dead at the same time.
as soon as you open the box the cat will be alive or dead.
in the moment when you saw the cat it became one of the two.

@Omegaslayer:
That is what I intend to do anyway And gee, you do find some cool norwegians around

@UnXpectiD:
Yes, I am already aware of schr?dinger's cat (partly because of The Big Bang Theory), I do understand that... Something like, that an atom takes every possible way from A to B, and not just one straight path?

@Macnme
Why the hypercube/ tesseract?
"flatland a romance of many dimensions" cleverly goes through interdimensional theorms
http://www.dimensions-math.org/ references flatland a bit

Just don't major in physics in college unless you want to teach it or have a particular use for it.

Waste of time and and money. Trust me.

You'll have read this, then?

We really do have more in common than I first thought
But as Bremnen posted, my thread is apt enough for this

Oh, and moonwire; go to stumbleupon and set your interests to science and physics. Click stumble, and I'll see you in a few months when you manage to drag yourself away from it
