Enemy Rewards

Archive: 6 posts

I'm working on a level just experimenting... but there is a giant spider that you can kill and I'd like a bunch of prize bubbles to pop up after you kill him. Is there a way to set up an emiter or something to generate some bubbles once he is defeated?

Thanks and AWESOME SITE!

Anything you attach to an enemy (basically anything with a brain) will dissolve when the brain is smashed. Now I haven't tried this yet but you should be able to attach a string between the enemy and an off screen platform that is holding up prize bubbles. It (the platform) should disappear when the enemy is destroyed. If this doesn't work then let me know I have some other ideas. . .2008-11-08 01:01:00

Suggestion: Maybe put a couple of holes in one of the back layers of the spider so you can't see it. When you're setting up the level, put some bubbles in those holes. That MAY work. Something similar was done in The Serpent Shrine level.2008-11-08 01:34:00

If this is true have a magnetic key on the monster, then a magnetic key switch somewhere with a huge radius 9wherever the creature will go)

Once the monster dissolves, and thus the key dissolves, the switch will activate (or deactivate) whatever mechanism you've set up and the prizes will fall (probably from a box, emitter, whatever you set up)

Ah HA!!! After playing around for an hour or so... hooking up a magnetic switch works!

Put the switch on the wall behind the enemy, and the key on the enemy. Having the switch connected to some "dissolve" material with some bubbles inside works great!!!

Thanks for the replies guys, I have more ideas involving this!

If you'd like to play my level with the spider in it, it's called "Miner's Revenge" Just something that I put together since the beta.

My method (although atrocious) works beautifully. It turns out that anything that is attached to a brain dissolves when the brain is destroyed. So attaching a creature to a block of a material will dissolve the block when the "creature" dies. I haven't tested with all materials yet, but I am fairly certain it works with all materials.

A more elegant solution is to but a magnetic key onto the creature(s) that need to be destroyed before the point bubbles/items are released. Then set a magnetic switch nearby and ensure it is set to "inverted". Make sure the radius is as large as the area the enemy will be in and that the enemy can't leave this area. In this way after all enemies in a certain area have been destroyed the switch will turn on and the dissolve material above the player will release its goodies.
This same system could be used to create areas where the player can not proceed until all the nearby enemies have been killed.
