People that didn't play the beta...

Archive: 10 posts

Just wondering how you're planning your projects for LBP2?

I've been trying to get a few idea's together, but not knowing if everything is possible, or what kind of decorations we get to use, is kind of off-putting.

I want to have a decent idea, so that I can get to work right from the off.

Anybody else feel like this? Or are you not bothering/planning, until you see the items that you can work with?

I just don't want to do what I did with LBP... Opening Create Mode, completely blank and sitting there for an hour or so, desparately trying to think of something. Then I end up switching it off and discarding my progress.

I'd often open it, making it up as I go along. Where I think it looks great at first, then when I just create things for the sake of it, the level kinda goes off-topic and the whole thing looks out of place and I end up deleting a good few hours of work... The ammount of times I've done this is ridiculous.

When I enter a level... 100 ideas pops up ^.^!
And about planning in LBP 2, even if I didn't have the beta, I know what is possible and what is not. I "studied" the features.

I've just thought up a few ideas but haven't planned any details for them. I'll figure out how to actually build it as I go along but then I'm not really fussed about publishing things. The only good thing a published in LBP was an exploding red barrel that I made 3D.

So ideas but no planning basically.

Well even the betas had (or were supposed to have) a very limited pallet. It wasn't an all-access pass. However you build (your process) will still be the same... remember it's the same game... it's just things like Dark Matter... you no longer need it to hold your level suspended in mid air... You may just find using a gravity tag thing-a-ma-bob is more fitting of your needs...

My point being, the crafting hasn't changed. You can still build sets, and characters, and things... just keep 'em basic at this point. You could probably have a whole level nearly complete sitting in wait for the day!

I have ideas and how I want things to look in my head, and it doesn't seem too complex (I could probably do most of the more complex stuff in LBP1 if I could be bothered), and then simple LBP2 mechanics (like Grappling Hook stuff, which is easy to plan, especially as the demo gives us Tower of Woop).2011-01-13 18:18:00

I bought a fresh sketchbook that tags along with me all day. If I see something interesting or if an idea pops into my head, I sketch it out for later. I'm hoping all the random brainstorming in my sketchbook will all mesh together like a puzzle and form something mind boggling.2011-01-14 03:23:00

Why do you delete it? Why not just save it on your moon?

Try writing it down, or like RA, draw some sketches. (They don't even have to be good sketches)

Look up what things you get to use by looking them up on youtube or on google. I did and found everything that came in the beta. The tools, gadgets, stickers, and lvls.

I sketch. I sketch and sketch and sketch until I like what I see.

I've already designed 4 boss fights in the last few days!

Thanks for the replies guys.

I guess my overall problem has been... Not being very good at complex stuff.

So my levels were always restricted to platformers / puzzles, without any complex logic. I could make things look visually very nice, but when it came to complex puzzles, or especially bosses, i just couldn't get around it. I wasn't that bad with the logic, as long as it wasn't overly complicated. This is what confines my idea's to simple stuff.

So, I'm hoping the sackbot's can add abit more 'life' to my levels in LBP2. Also looking at all the fantastic creations in that beta videos thread with all the microchips, has confused me even more!

But I guess I'll get the hang of it.
