Where Do Bad Sacks Go When They Die?

Although not as scary as "Happy Land" this level shares a similar theme. I really ramped up the
difficulty on this level from my previous creations. I'm definitely looking for some input and
player testing to help iron out any kinks.

I think I'm happy with the difficulty for now but I might make an easy mode if not enough
players can finish it, or care to try more than once even. I'm recommending it for 1 player
only because it has certain camera zones that dont work correctly with more than 1.
Also some of the platforming IMO would be nearly impossible with 2 or more.

Anyway I put a lot of effort into the look of the level.

Ok I just tried to beat this level twice. The infinate check point at the start was needed for sure. You have a very nice world you have created, the design is very good. You may consider having the bones you collect vanish as you bring them back and having the bubble set to one time. The red mist of death blend in everywhere and seems very cheap. The tower looks nice, but with out using the show name option you don't even know you are going anywhere. I would put some more windows in it so people can tell, it is just blind jumping, so it doesn't help the level. The next few red mist areas are slightly cheap deaths too, I thought I was in the mid plane and died, so I tried many many more ways until I realized I was in the front plan on the first try, so tried the mid and made it through. The houce was nicely done with music and lights, the death door was good, but also wrong because of all the cheaper deaths prior I had to go blind hopping through the tower yet again. The place you hop up to get the gun pulled me off the platforms and into the flames and killed me right away, you may want to corner edit so sack boy doesn't try and auto select the flames on the third one. Well killed the skeleton and then tapped the flame log and bounced somehow to my death, redid the tower, and finally a check point to no have to blind jump through the tower. The background and level still looked very nice, but those jumps were just plain cheap, the camera making it hard is one thing, but switching durning jumps like that seemed cheap. The skulls also seemed cheap, I ran out of lives and restarted. This time I made it to the jumps with out being killed, but thoe angle just seem plain wrong at times, I did not want to speed jump because of the camera switching and the flying skulls, but those last few very high columns with the up view made it impossible to see what you were jumping onto. I jumped upto the height I though was rigght and would not make it, then I would restart and go through the prior jumps and then on my last jumps I made it to the tallest one and sackboy just seemed to bolt off the platform to his death for no reason. That was as far as I made it. I will try again, but it would be nice if you made that tower less button mashing. Good visuals, nice background, perhaps don't kill the player at the start to get out of the title, just have him fall down to the level, not an issue, just can hear the sound which took away from your great title. Do something to remove the speech bubble clutter, and if you are going to have limited lives in certain areas, make it less cheap on the deaths, and in the other area with unlimited, but a longer area of travel with no check points add some, because even with unlimited it get a bit long being killed by gas that is a bit hard to judge. Maybe a hint or another checkpoint, that death tree after the tower really bugged me because I figured I was not supposed to jump, but then I died again, then I tried to jump further, but waited too long because of the camera angle and fell to my death, and on the fourth try made it over. I could not even see the gas, so I was not sure if I was missing the direction to go, or if I had to unlock something. Perhaps more directions or hints, or a few more check point so you don't have to start over at the begining. Good level, nice feel, F4F on any of my levels, just touched up OK Choice and OK Space Accident if you want to try one of those and help me out with some feedback.

P.S. It was a good level, and if you want it to be very difficult, that is fine, just really seemed to have a few blind jump or walk moments that's all.

Thanks for the feedback Celsus. You bring up some good points. To start, lets see.. I had intended to have the skeleton in the
beginning give you a clue as to which layer to walk down but only after a death or 2. I ended up not implementing that but may yet.
"The bones will show you the way" or some such statement. If you notice there is a skull or skeleton in each hazard area and it
is in the "safe" layer.

Good idea about having the beginning area bones dissolve after delivered. I'll work around that idea a bit. I liked that you died in
all the right places, lol. And then came back to run past them up to where you were the second playthrough. That is what I had
intended with the layout. As for the red gas layers I have an idea how to make which layer they're in more visible using stickers.
I'll try that as well.

The jumping I may tweak a bit. I didn't consider it cheap, but they all are tricky and require finesse and practice. I may slightly
alter those. Hmm oh the tower, I like the blind jumping bit personally though I could see people getting annoyed.
I may try to add some open cracks to let you see your sackboy on each floor.. My thermo is literally 99% though..

I may add extra checkpoints for an easier version and publish it separately I wanted to superficially lengthen the level but I can
see the annoyance. I'd say you probably made it just over half way through. the last segment may be even more cheap or
challenging but the visual style changes completely. The final boss imo is something to behold. And I like what I've done for a
level end. I want players to get there so I think an easy mode is in order.

Many of the deaths were evil, but I wanted to use the term cheap because I felt it got across the point of being unfair to the player. I liked the door of death, but that meant I had to redo the tower again, and I think the tree after the tower got too me a bit because at first I was worried I had missed something and was not supposed to go that way...so I tried moving the skeletons back to the skull arranging them and many other options before I retied the jump and made it only to be killed in what i thought was the middle level, but turned out it was the closest. Also if the blind jumps flowed a bit more, and the playerstarted out knowing about them it may help, or once a player made it to the top have them spwan there or clear out the tower so the next run they just have to jump to make it out (explaining this in the level). The thremo being full is always the issue, so you may be out of luck. But I still think it is a good level, and I just may not have the skills to beat it since I had not played in a few months, and the last times I have been playing I have been testing and retesting my own levels to try and fix them. OK Space Accident is a good one for you to give feedback on, no one had ever finished that level for the longest time because I made many of the challenges too hard for casual players...by all accounts that is one of my evilest levels with what could have several cheap deaths I have yet to decheapen (just because I don't know they are there).2011-01-14 16:50:00

yeah the meatpuppets & Nirvana "where do bad folks go when they die?"
Most likely what inspired the title, little big hell seems a little bland.
There is sort of a lake of fire.. xD

Played several times through but couldn't beat. That being said I still think it was a very good level.

The custom music and atmosphere was great and the early music reminded me strongly of that eerie ambient music found in old horror movies. I could just imagine Technicolor while playing through the level. lol

The difficulty is a bit steep and more checkpoints would've been appreciated.

As for the atmosphere, I don't know how much more of the level there was to see but it was a very stark and depressing tone. Which suits it very well. But It didn't offer the tragic and immediate danger usually associated with anything 'Hell'. But a depressing slow moving vision is often missed out on and can be more original.

thanks Ludicium, for the feedback.
I've added an extra checkpoint and tweaked a few of the more difficult jumps.
Only one person other than myself had finished the original version. I think it
will possibly be a bit easier now, not completley easy still though xD

I've got your level queue'd I'll leave ya feedback in your thread later this evening.

I tried a couple more times to beat the level. I saw some of teh changes, and they worked, I still think it is a really good level but those jumps are still pure evil. I uploaded a pic to the furhest I got. The issue is you can't see where the fllor is and the thin layers cause you to miss every now and then. I am not saying you have to make them less evil, just I don't have the LBP jump skills. I will try and beat it again later.2011-01-15 21:27:00

Hello,

Nice intro with the title. YES it's hard! I think I died 100 times. I couldn't tell what level the objects were on to avoid them, you've written in your posts that you've tweaked the camera but I found the camera angles still made it very difficult at times. After about 30mins of play time I'm sorry to say I found it frustrating more than fun . On the positive side I thought your level looked fantastic , you've created a very eerie world with the lighting, pace and music. If I was to score it for style alone I'd give it 5 stars but I gave it :star::star::star: because I never got to finish it, believe me I try'd!

Thanks for the feedback Pab3000.
I'm guessing you're refering to the camera angles in the jumping section. I've tweaked them
slightly to do a bit more follow until the player lands. Also I've tweaked the actual pillars for
the jumps greatly and published a separate easier version of the level.

I'm not making anymore changes to the original but I'll be adding several more changes to
the easier mode to make it more accommodating to the majority of players.
My first intention while creating this level was to add an air of frustration and repetition
to go with the theme of the level. I figured a retry = more plays lol

That said, I do want people to be able to complete it so I intend to overhaul the easier mode
as much as possible. Thanks again.

I'll be posting feedback for Gangstar chicken pt.1 in it's thread soon. Sorry for the slight
delay. I've played both parts of the level previously to your posting but I'd like to replay
them to see if I can offer any useful feedback.
