LBP.me viewable ratings

Archive: 24 posts

As far as my experience goes with LBP.me, I've noticed one rather peculiar tidbit. I have NEVER seen a rating of lower than 4 stars on any level. Don't get me wrong, I've been on that site at least once a day, consistently checking new levels, using the great features with the queue and all, but that detail with the ratings interested me.

Are 1, 2, and 3 star ratings not shown to protect the honesty of the rater? Is it that literally every LittleBigPlanet level is rated with only 4 and 5 stars?

I was looking at znyax's Ethereal Musings on the site, and saw only hearts, praise, and 5 star ratings all the way down, and was perplexed to see a ridiculous 3 star rating?! (by the way, that level is totally worth playing, here is the LBP.me (http://lbp.me/v/wgywv6) link if you want it)

Any answers to this?

Yeah I've noticed the same. I suppose they did that to block peoPle from seeing when people hate on a level. However a missing rating obviously means that player rated it bad ( or played it previously)2011-01-13 02:29:00

Yeah, only 4 and 5 ratings appear on LBP.me.
Like Lockstitch said I also assume it's to prevent hate mail in your psn inbox.

I think if you replay a level, it just shows the rating of the first time you played.

I just tested this in lbp1 last night. I published 4 blank levels with only a scoreboard and played them with an alt account. The levels were named 1, 2, 3 and 4. I rated the first level 1 star, the second level 2 stars, the third level 3 stars and 4 stars for the fourth level. The 3 stars or less ratings didnt show up on lbp.me... I find that a little annoying that you cant see what peoples ratings are on your levels. We never could see peoples ratings anyway before we had lbp.me and I didnt help make the website so I cant complain to much. I think lbp.me is really awesome but also we should be able to see all the ratings. Im not sure how it will work with lbp2 ratings.2011-01-13 02:43:00

I noticed this and I've mentioned it before. It can be pretty annoying
It's very patronising and it makes little sense given that on the LBP2 Beta version of LBP.me, negative ratings were not hidden so why does it have to be this way on the LBP1 version? Plus, there's a significant difference between someone who rates your level 3 stars and someone who rates your level 1 star.

But what happens when I play the level and rate it 1,2 or 3 stars? It give an activity line like "X psn has played your level and scored X" ?

Because I want to know if they at least show all the activity.

Thanks for the info everybody

I'm pretty sure in that case it just shows (PSN ID) played a level, which is annoying because then you can't tell if they actually tagged it or rated it.

Lol, this is depressing, I was thinking that everyone was rating 4's because they were scared to rate lower, but it actually means all those ones that says someone played your level rated it a 3 or lower. I got tons of those on my levels. I just checked one that I have tired to make my best and it got 7 unrecorded scores, and 4 recorded, only one of which was a 5, meaning my score has to be pretty close to dropping a star. This also is a bit annoying, because I was going to rate one of the H4H spammers a one (but only if his level was bad...of which they usually are), now that is pointless. I did like the fact I was able to look at his activity online and saw he spent four hours pasting "H4H PLay my level plz" on people's levels, but never actually playing any of them. I really hope they show all the scores, I actually had been rating a bit more honestly (I used to only give 5s because I figured I was making up for the one star people, but now with seeing my ratings, I could not give a few of the bad levels five stars). I noticed also that some people that had no stars showing showed that on tons and tons of levels, then would rank several in a row at 5 or 4 stars, and then would go twenty more with no stars showing, so I think there is something more going on.

On a side note my Murder Mystery Level along with two others I have noticed so far have a 5 star rating on the LBP.me level page, and has stayed that way for a long time, but they have always been 4 stars on the ps3 moon and the LBP.me show all levels page. Also all of the comments also seem to have vanised (I think that has happened a few times).

Yeah I've noticed that too. I look at a level on the PS3 and it shows a 4 star rating, but on LBP.me a 5 star. I assumed it was just some slow information sending whatever you'd call it from the servers, but its been like that for a day or two.

I thought that at first, but the larger lbp.me shows other scores, so it seemed a bit off, also it has had 5 stars for several weeks now? I was guessing that it may just count recent votes by registered players.2011-01-15 04:57:00

I thought the same thing...that I was getting 4 and 5 stars. I wonder if they are hiding the low ratings to prevent retaliation? I would want to see what everyone rated my level.2011-01-15 06:00:00

Yeah that is a massive bit of a let down. Now you can't tell if you are getting tons of bad ratings (meaning you may have a glitched level), or leave a three not looking like it could be a one or a one looking like it could be a three. A bit of a let down there for sure. 2011-01-15 07:06:00

Yes but do we see all rating stars? I doubt that. I remember that we don't.2011-01-15 18:54:00

Today on LBP.me, i have noticed some levels having a LBP2 style like/dislike rating shown as well as the star rating. Does this mean that some people have LBP2 already and that LBP1 levels are on the LBP2 server?2011-01-15 20:34:00

I had 287 author hearts for ages...the past week or so I've been hearted 3 times and my levels that have mostly not been touched have been both hearted and played so I think it's doing some good.2011-01-16 01:07:00

When you play LBP2, you get both LBP1 and LBP2 levels. But in LBP2 you only rate by "like/don't like". So that's why you saw what you saw.

wait, what, so the star rating system is not on LBP2? That's kind of a bummer, because when I play a level that I particularly didn't like, I'll still judge it based on other factors such as creativity, scenery, and maybe effort. sometimes you can tell who really put a lot of time into their level and I'll give it the ole 3 star rating for "worth playing." But just to arbitrarily label it like or dislike, I think is a little unfair. There are probably a lot of good levels that will get a "dislike" because some goob died 5 times while trying to jump over some fire pit. I try to judge fairly, and I've given plenty of 1 star ratings, especially when the title is misleading like (and I apologize if this is a real level, just using as an example) "Awesome Final Fantasy Gunship" or something and you go in and it's a stupid long glass slide into some freaking dynamite. yeah dumb*** you're getting a 1.

and I just checked, there is no level called "Awesome Final Fantasy Gunship"

I agree its simplistic and not as good as a 5 star rating but it's simpler for the regular gamer. Fact is that people didn't understand LBP1 rating -- demonstrating to MM it's too complicated for them. Therefore MM simplified the thing. I think this will actually end up better...

You loved it or liked it: click yay!
You didn't it: click nay.
When it's grey zone: don't rate

That will be my logic at least.

Lol. well I like the idea of seeing ratings and such, but I was hit with three dislikes last night when I published a level, then went to play it, found the logic had broken at the starting door, went out locked it and fixed it...but in that time I was blasted with three dislikes. One of the players played my level again and left a message saying they had clicked the wrong button at the end, which later switched to a happy face, but now my level shows two frowns, and my other level that people seem to like 100 times more than the one I have been slowly fixing and improving for months was rated frowny by one of the same guys, leaving me with three frowns and one smiley in the first night...then when I was republishing the fixed version today I saw five of my levels had jumped to 5 stars, now they are all back to 4 again...just a bit weird. I do like that it shows ratings now with the frowny so you can tell 1 star versus 5. How many people out there are getting more frowns than happies? Am I the only one getting frown down on?2011-01-21 10:29:00

Are 1, 2, and 3 star ratings not shown to protect the honesty of the rater? Is it that literally every LittleBigPlanet level is rated with only 4 and 5 stars?

I noticed this on LBP.me as well. However, when you're in LBP2 you can see exactly who gave you that 1 star. I only realized this because it just recently happened to one of my LBP1 levels. I think it would be best to not show who gave what rating for a couple reasons: It would protect the honesty of the player, as you suggested, and it wouldn't start feuds between players. As far as I understand (I've only played a couple community levels) there isn't any star ratings in LBP2; only the happy or frowny face. But for those still playing LBP1, I wonder if they know that their 1 star is seen by the creator (if the creator is in LBP2)? And once that catches on, I wonder if people will be instinctively more generous?

Edit: Almost forgot to answer your question directly. LBP1 levels are rated 1 through 5 stars. I'm assuming the lower ratings are not showing up on LBP.me because of what you first suggested. However, like I said above, I can see those ratings from LBP1 when I'm playing LBP2.

I think you can see 1 stars rating if you're the maker of the level, because I saw someone that complained with another user because he gave one star to his level.2011-01-25 08:20:00
