Marvel Level Kit - How?
Archive: 10 posts
In the Marvel Level Kit, where you're hopping from car to car as they speed down the road, the background scrolling in the background... Anyone know how that level was created, or how I could build something similiar in LBP1? And eventually in LBP2? | 2011-01-12 21:57:00 Author: wizaerd Posts: 159 |
I don't know for sure as I don't have the pack, but if it's like those train bomb survival levels, then the vehicles are fixed in position, and the ground is being emitted underneath them. (again, don't take my word on it but that's what it sounds like it'd be) | 2011-01-12 22:48:00 Author: Matimoo Posts: 1027 |
Yeah, the road is made up of repeating pieces emitted at speed, possibly with a glass bottom to slide smoothly. The vehicles actually move left and right a bit, probably done with winches attached to some invisible thin dark matter. | 2011-01-12 23:13:00 Author: Radishlord Posts: 706 |
it's really a shame there isnt any way to open a level in create mode to study... or is there, and I'm just unaware of it? | 2011-01-13 15:23:00 Author: wizaerd Posts: 159 |
Only way is if the creator makes it copyable, but Mm didn't do that | 2011-01-13 15:36:00 Author: Radishlord Posts: 706 |

I may be wrong, but, Ranger Zero (a member here), was the first person I remember seeing doing this really convincingly. He's an affable chap! Perhaps if you asked him really really nicely he'd give you a behind-the-scenes tour. Outside of that, the effect has been recreated quite often on all those bomb/train levels. Find one you like and surely someone will be willing to show-off their work. not sure if it's done on glass or wheels... | 2011-01-13 16:24:00 Author: Gravel Posts: 1308 |
Check out my level "Crazy Train". I've been the first (according to my knowledge and people around here) to do that. It's just that I made a train instead of cars. Basically, each layer of my background is in parts. Those parts are in fact vehicles using motorwheels and are emitted successively. The train itself doesn't move, it's glued right there! This way you have an infinite scrolling backgroung. I went a little overboard in my level and I made 3 layers of background parts vehicules scrolling at different speeds in order to simulate a depth effect. lol You can also look at an high res video of it on my Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmkOedZdZmg | 2011-01-13 17:13:00 Author: RangerZero Posts: 3901 |
Thanx RangerZero, I'll take a look... [EDIT] So the background makes sense, is that true for the ground/rails the train is moving along? | 2011-01-13 20:25:00 Author: wizaerd Posts: 159 |
The rails are also motorised pieces emitted successively. The Train is immobile held in the air just over track pieces by dark matter and the springs for the wheels are juuuust loose enough so the wheels are rolling with the tracks. | 2011-01-13 21:13:00 Author: RangerZero Posts: 3901 |
