This game's 'Awesomness'.. may be its own poison

Archive: 20 posts

Hello all,

Mostly 9 days are left 'till the great release. And the more I like the game and watch it gets more awesome.. the more I become affraid of what'll the consequences be... (Why?)
Because the more awesome you expect it to be.. the less awesome it'll look in the end..
It's a human-ish trait that makes "The grass always greener on the other side of the fence".. so when you see the game (grass) beyond your reach.. it shines like nothing else, but once you get your hands on it... it's just plain, maybe even pale green /:

'What should I do? I love LBP'; each one of us like it too, but that won't live long if you were disappointed for any reason while playing your favorite game... especiallly if your first impression was 'disappointment'..
I'm starting to feel I'm overreacting.. so I'll just skip to the advice..

Forget about how awesome LittleBigPlanet 2 is, for now.. and try, when you watch videos of it, to pause and imagine yourself proceeding from that point in a silent, boring run..

This might help giving you a heart attack when you see the true awesomeness of LBP2 too
(I think I'm not doing well in telling this.. so do your best for what's left..)

My maximum bar was set at "making a wall jump". When the community made me realize that that was done several times I knew that LBP2 was even more then awesome.2011-01-12 20:40:00

For some people, it won't even matter. A lot of people just like seeing and playing the efulgent masterpieces of the upper LittleBigEchelon, and there's no doubt it will be an improvement with all the new tools. The Sackbots alone will be much better than stickers on carboard with a few Magic Mouths.2011-01-12 23:45:00

I think about it like this. Out of a combination of boredom and anticipation I have started making some vehicles for top down and side scrollers. On a side scroller vehicle I have a series of lights that I want to flash back and forth. I'm cursing at myself because I can't quite get the timing of the lights right and still hide the piston and small piece of glass that holds the switch trigger (key).

Then I stop, rip off the piston, the piece of glass and all the switches. I don't need to do this. I can put this on a sequencer and slap that on the microchip. That small revelation sealed it for me.

This game is going to rule.

To me, it doesn't matter how hyped I get, because in the end I know that nothing in LBP2 will be a disappointment to me.2011-01-13 00:38:00

you're right, this happens with most games, it isn't as good as it makes out to be, but, it's still amazing, I know this to have happened with every game that i've gotten, so i'm not worried about it.

LBP2 won't be as good as it makes out to be...

Straight away... it'll need a few months to bolster up a healthy supply of great new levels

All I ever wanted was a sticker cut-out tool... *snif snif* and they did more than I could have contemplated...

But yeah, I've done this with sooo many games. I'm trying to make this one of the only games I've really anticipated where I haven't watched a video walkthrough of most of the game...

Au contraire my friend, you are this exited even when you've yet to fully know the full capabilities of LBP2, so you'll even be MORE into LBP(2) after you get yur hands on it, rather than the other way around. 2011-01-13 06:09:00

SOME OF YOU DON'T GET IT! WHY, JUST WHY!!
I'VE SEEN THIS HAPPEN MANY TIMES BEFORE! IT'S A CURSE!!!

Oops my bad.. Caps Lock was on
It's all about Hype.. it destroyed a lot of games in the eyes of many fans...
I know it's hard to happen with LBP2 since it's improving with each creation, but I'd like to play it while liking every detail.. not just like "oh, I saw this one" or "Huh, good, but I expected better the time I watched it in that video"

All I'm trying to say is.. try to get a small dosage of the Hype coming these days.. it'll help you in liking the game more when it comes out

Aaaaaaaand this is what I believe to be the greatest part of LBP2. Hype CANNOT ruin it. There is no way that you're expectation cannot be met because half of you "expectations" come 6 months down the road when you're trying to design OMG AWESOMZ LEVEL and realize that you CAN because you have every tool.

Also, when people hype up games, they hype up what they have been told and shown. We KNOW that theres going to be a great create mode. We KNOW its going to have a cool yet light hearted story. But we DON'T know what other people are going to make. We DON'T know what kind of new genres an genre mashups people are going to make. We DON'T know where the tools are going to lead our creativity because we haven't experienced them yet.

In my opinion, the greatest part of LBP2 (user made content) cannot be hyped and therefor cannot be ruined. THIS is why i believe LBP2 will be immune to the usual hype-syndrom.

oh! this reminded me that there were people I know who was disappointed by the demo..
I know the demo was just to show what are the new tools capable of doing, but even so.. they said that it wasn't really what they expected...

Now I know that 'm not speaking to the right group of people.. all of us here are LBP freaks.. and whatever it comes out to be in the end is going to be the least thing we expect xD

This might be true, however, most of us saying "This is going to be awesome" are speaking from knowledge obtained from the majority of the beta players who have exclaimed time and again: "THIS IS AWESOME!"

Therefore I believe, through the knowledge obtained through my fellow LBP fanpeople, as I was not in the beta myself, that this is going to be an amazing game.

This doesn't actually affect me atm because I only seen the official trailer and played the demo and that's it. Haven't even read any reviews or seen anything beyond this and this is a deliberate act of mine because I totally get what you are saying and I don't want to get my hopes up too high either. 2011-01-14 10:38:00

As a ex-beta memeber (the beta's over) I would like to say that this game is ALL that it is cracked up to be!!!

trust me. If you liked to creat in the first, you'll love it in lbp2.

Yes the same "basic" principals apply as it is a SEQUAL (i still don't understand why people say its an expantion, because it's way more than that) but you can use 3 times more creation power to make your level. You can make (basicly) anything.

i feel like i should say that lbp1 is somewhat like the MS paint of console gaming. Its fun to use, but only few can make something worth while.

I can say (with confidence) that lbp2 is like the photoshop of console gaming. It and paint may have a few parts similar, but overall its a whole new package, w/ stronger tools so that you can create what ever you want w/ ease.

The beta alone exceeded my highest expectations. And to think. Some of the stuff that's in the game was taken away during said beta

I'm with everyone else here on this. I think LBP2 is more or less immune to the HypeMonster. The user generated content is what always has, and always will blow other games out of the water. Certainly, the story-mode may disappoint... but the Create aspect (which I would argue is really the single most important aspect of this game is and is responsible for the games success), is just too powerful to be overlooked... let alone tainted by any amount of hype it's received so far.

To be honest, I was a bit skeptical upon entering the beta a few months back (and as giddy as a schoolgirl with a crush). Would it live up to the video's I'd seen posted? Would it feel the same with all the new changes? Would create really be easier for everyone? The answers were for the most part, a resounding YES! (I still think the create part is not necessarily easier for everyone. I'm only now beginning to really grasp the logic and how to best use it) It actually did live up to it, and certain aspects even exceeded my expectations. The game is simply beautiful, butterfly generating (the kind you get in your belly), and a ton of fun to play and create in.

If this games awesomeness is it's own poisonous undoing, then let me drink it fast and die in bliss!
