Distance From Sanity
Archive: 8 posts
As you may have seen (or not), I had a project called "Project Vegas." Unfortunately, there already is a Heavy Rain-like level on the forums (and soon on LBP2) called "The Lost." I decided to not look like a copier (since "The Lost" was announced first) and canceled the project. Luckily, that project was just a minor one. The major one I'll be working on (on my own) is called Distance From Sanity. Basically, it is a Psycological Horror game. Distance From Sanity The Story: You play as Jackson Moley, a cashier. One night he recieves a text from his mother, Dana. The problem is: she's been dead since Jackson was 5. The text says: "Help Jackson. This town is cursed, and you are the only one who can save us. Help me Jackson. You're my only hope." (Star Wars reference, hehehe!) (Of course, the Star Wars reference won't be included, but you get the message.) Gameplay: In a nutshell, there won't be much fighting going on. The only weapon you have is your flashlight. Most of the enemies can be killed Alan Wake style: shine your flashlight on the enemy, then whack 'em! There's also an element used in Amnesia: The Dark Descent in this game. That would be the Sanity Meter. As long as you keep your sanity up, you're safe. But the only way to keep it down is to be faster than your enemies. That means catching them before they catch you. The more they scare you, the more the meter goes up. The more in the meter, the more hallucinations and illusions, the harder it is to keep it down. When you max out the meter, you have a few seconds to bring it down before you kill yourself. To bring it back down, you have to go into a lit area. These are rare, so try to keep your sanity. I'll be doing the game myself, but any help and/or feedback on what you think would be much appreciated! Thanks for Reading!! *EDIT* Also, if you want to help with the project, just say here or add me on PSN. I will gladly give back somehow, whether it be a level ad or character cameo. The only thing I will need help in will be voice acting. Since I have a tiny voice, I will not be recording mine. Sorry. *EDIT 2* Here's a concept costume made in LBP1: http://img708.imageshack.us/img708/4972/aphoto3c.jpg (http://img708.imageshack.us/i/aphoto3c.jpg/) I know it was stupid of me to add the remote but I couldn't find anything that looked like a flashlight. *EDIT 3* Here's a concept logo.http://img37.imageshack.us/img37/9937/aphotoa.jpg (http://img37.imageshack.us/i/aphotoa.jpg/) Yeah, I'm not very good when it comes to logos. Maybe somebody could help me out? Please? Anything better than mine would be appreciated. Unless you like this logo. If you create a logo that I like, I'll put something in the game advertising one of your levels. Uploaded with ImageShack.us (http://imageshack.us) *EDIT 4* I might also need a music composer. If anyone is familiar with music in games like Silent Hill, say here. I don't exactly know how the sequencer works, so anyone who does and helps will recieve a level ad and/or character cameo in the game. If you know how to use the sequencer but are unfamiliar with Silent Hill-type (basically, sad and depressing) music, then here's an example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kt2Xto7JEh0&feature=related Skip to 1:38. Song goes on until 5:37. I just got this off YouTube. It was the clearest sounding video I could find. Anyone up for this? | 2011-01-12 07:24:00 Author: Fail4all Posts: 106 |
Sounds awesome in my opinion! (Plus, I LOVE Alan Wake! ) I didn't get into the beta, so I have no idea what is, and what is not possible. So, I'll have to wait to see what I can make, before I start planning levels. But if you can pull this off, should be very good! | 2011-01-12 08:36:00 Author: Southpaw020 Posts: 50 |
I say yes and no. Sounds like it could be very interesting, but using the name Silent Hill kind of isn't good. It's a familiar name to players, but it's not your name of your creation. Since your adding your own touch, it no longer really fits in the Silent Hill department. Though, hmm.... you could say it's in the same world. Maybe a neighboring town. But if you can do the actual game some justice in yours (Unlike other lvls with game titles), I guess go for it. | 2011-01-12 10:53:00 Author: Devious_Oatmeal Posts: 1799 |
Sounds like, if done right, it could be a keeper. I'll keep my eyes peeled for this one. | 2011-01-13 01:38:00 Author: xero Posts: 2419 |

I'll fix that! *EDIT* It won't be a Silent Hill game anymore. | 2011-01-16 04:32:00 Author: Fail4all Posts: 106 |
The costume concept is great, except the lion nose. It doesn't make any sense, and doesn't fit at all. | 2011-01-16 08:00:00 Author: xero Posts: 2419 |
I think the remote looks more like a camera. I agree with the lion nose, it doesn't fit. | 2011-01-23 18:28:00 Author: Devious_Oatmeal Posts: 1799 |
If you need voices I can help for at least 1 character depending on what you are looking for. For the logo I might be able to improve your one, I can try I suppose. I can also play-test before you openly publish them and supply appropriate feedback. | 2011-01-24 22:45:00 Author: Darkcloudrepeat Posts: 606 |
