This is one of the debatable questions in video gaming. There are many arguments about whether or not, if video games count as art. Even Hideo Kojima states Video Games arent art and they never will be. However video gamers consist video games are and give examples like Shadow of Colossus and LittleBigPlanet. So what are your guys opinion ?

Someone could draw a simple sketch as there job, is it art? Art by definition is "the quality, production, expression, or realm, according to aesthetic principles, of what is beautiful, appealing, or of morethan ordinary significance." I say that a lot of video games are certainly not art, just products built for mass entertainment, however, some games seem to almost reach in the direction of "what is beautiful or appealing" rather than what sells well. I don't really know, however, if something was really built out of someones passion and what they think is beautiful, then how is it not art?

I think it's really that simple to be honest. So maybe video games aren't art to Hideo Kojima himself, that is, he doesn't find them appealing. Or he needs a look in the dictionary. Art is an abstract term, and whether video games are art or not depends on what definition you use. Intelligent debate has no place for unclear abstract terms.

I made the Mona Lisa look pretty decent in LBP, so I'd say LBP counts as art.

Why do people keep asking? :/ Not to be rude, but its all within anyone's perspective really, you think its art? Boom! it is. You don't think it is? Boom! Its not. Ever heard of "Art is in the eye of the beholder"? It holds true, videogames included. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QT_e4l8lxXg See? (Yes I know he says 'beauty' in the vid, same thing, both phrases exist, just couldn't find another example. ) No, but seriously, its like a drawing/ painting you make, are you really gonna go asking "is this art"? You decde what's art for you, and everyone else decide what's art for them, remember that.

Even that dictionary definition is not accurate as to "what is art?" - as Artists constantly try and push the boundaries of "What is Art?" to encompass new ideas. Video Games, more so than just about any other modern medium, are a place where artists can actually earn some money and be gainfully employed. With the exception of the raw coding - there isn't an aspect of a video game that can 'not' be considered art. It's a non-question. Of course Video Games are Art. Wether they are 'good' art is down to your own personal taste as to what "art" is and does and should be. Some games are clearly more 'artfully' excecuted than others though. But even bad art is still art.

What do I think? Everything is art! For example: -The moldy cheeze under the couch is the artwork of natual decay. -The big flower field is the artwork of nature. -Books are the artwork of writers. -LBP is the artwork (and masterpiece) of Mm. -Blah blah blah Okay idk but yeah...

"the heart osborn! first we attack his heart!" anyway yes i do think video games are art. same way as a painter creates scenery on a canvas,a graphic designer sculpts scenery in a game.i agree with what foofles said also " I think every physical manifestation of the imagination is art."
